Neil Philpott - Sika Hunting Safaris New Zealand
New Zealand
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 28 มิ.ย. 2022
A professional hunter for over 45 years I specialise on hunting sika and big trophy sika stags among all other species. I've produced 3 videos on hunting sika and can claim to be the first to roar in sika stags on camera. My first video - Sika Safari transformed the way NZ hunters targeted these animals. If I get enough subscribers to my channel then I'll post video and divulge more info than anyone has ever before
Trophy Hunt for Sika stag (2000)
A hunt for a sika stag in the year 2000 by Ashley Jagoe from Australia. This is a memory for him. I recorded on tape back then so quality not what it is today

Great audio. Hideous sounds. Nice shit
Sorry, shot!
Awesome Neil, some great footage as usual 👍
Thanks I have a lot of old video that I need to save somewhere before it all gets lost
This is a cruel trapping method - there are more humane traps in NZ. Not the possums fault they are here and they have a right to be dealt with in a humane way
Nothing is as efficient as a Leg hold trap. Maybe you prefer 1080 as control of choice? I'm a professional trapper and do this for a living. You should be glad some of us are still out there keeping their numbers in check

🎉🎉😮😮
The greatest thing I ever saw
Why do you cut the ears off
So u can pull the faceskin off easily. Rip it otherwise
@@neilphilpott-sikahuntingsa5784 why don’t bother with the face like ears and nose
Nice rusa! Is this in New Caledonia?
Yes
That would have your blood pumping. Great footage 👏
That's a Ripper
WOW....the head means more than the meat aye.....when your ego is bigger than ya brain....
Not sure what you on about Walter. None of the stags in this video were shot for their heads or the meat. Not by me anyway
Beautiful Stag.
Awesome to see 👍
Lovely to watch, gives me goose bumps😊
Nice 😎
Seen them do that before down the Kaimanawas nasty little buggers alright
Awesome Neil!!!!!
thanks Neil
Hi Neil, great footage! What date does the season open there? Steve here in Alberta Canada
Can hunt all year round here in NZ but the rut for stags starts about now
If they are anything like ferrets, they probably live by the "if there is a will there is a way" philosophy. Keep trying until you learn how to climb, had a few that eventually figured out climbing.
Great bit of filming of everyday occurrence that very few ever see, out of sight, out of mind.. Stoats don't kill for fun, that's humans & dogs, some whom will pay handsomely for their pleasure. Stoats will kill in excess of their needs and stash the surplus for later. Their budgeting can get skewed, stashes of 50 dead mice past their use-by date an example. They don't eat putrid meat. They'll empty a nest usually when found. Not eating a possum in a trap when found is no proof it wasn't going to, it was probably watching it's meal stolen. & if the carcass was left nearby there is a very good chance it got its' feed. Cats climbing ability is also excellent, and they handle larger prey like kakas etc. (although an adult male stoat will kill most forest birds, size doesn't matter too much to them). Cats, like humans, also kill for gratuitous pleasure. Possum and rats and mice are other major predators, an food sources that maintain stoat numbers. Various combinations exist with different consequences. Probably changing, but none to the advantage of native species. All take a major toll on lizards & insects, possibly what this chap was onto. Trapping isn't the only way to control stoats. Even where it has an impact it is inefficient. Prey availability is the main factor, most stoats starve before reaching their first birthday. There are very few situations poison isn't the superior for the bulk part of pest removal. Skilled trapping is often used for remnant clean-up, and so many do not have required skills despite experience, recommendations etc. Most don't even understand what pest control actually is.
Great footage mate!
Saw one in a tree up in Waitakauri running along the branches.
Cheers Neil I had an awesome trip with you and Martin
Love to see pic of the glass Art
Nice work! Buddy lost a Stripey at the boat this week. Me and my mates have been debating - interpreting your book - one of the boys can’t get away until Anzac Day. He reckons “Phil said late April is best”. Would love to get your advice!
Sika stags start single calling (meaning hinds start to cycle) from about 10th April reach a peak about 20-22 April and then drop off sharply couple days later. Around the 25th is a good time to get a big bugger tho. Problem later in April is that most stags have had a fright already so get hard. Ok if you in an area where nobody has been.....................
Well done
Long way from home
Very long way!!
Nice to see Neil, a bit over 2 months, and they'll be stripping.
Who was your outfitter? Great bull mate
A Frenchman called outfit Seladang
Awesome result. Were you happy with the hunt otherwise or was it the usual Asian Shit show of bribery and extortion?
Yeah the hunt was ok but a bit of bribery coming home with overweight luggage etc and my my rifle went missing for 6 weeks though that was more Abu Dhabi
Kazakhstan is one of the richest oil and gas producers in the world and they don't improve roads. This is just corruption and incompetence.
Great bull Neil 👍🏻
Great vid but words hard to see , and not long enough to read
How do you age the stags?
great! im going next year on my second attempt at a Maral
Good luck!!
Cool, can't wait for #2. Slow down your overlayed text a little bit, not enough time to read it 👍🏻
Noted!
Sweet Neil, nice to see how it's done over there.
That is how kids should be raised, good job 👍
Awesome, letting some go. We got huge eels locally, great times feeding them venison scraps. Small ones are the best eating for us
Takes me back to my teenage years in the 80's, running traplines and skinning possums. I think top dollar back then was about 16 per skin, only skinning then but still use to do alright for a after school job. Whats the going rate for a carcass?
Get 2.75 a kg for them Average 1.6 kg per possum A big possum weighs 3 kg though can get bigger. My best is 3.3 kg

Nice!
Love it , is it private or public
Private
Wish our opposums in the us where that much😂
GSPs are always right! Can you use the possums for dog food or too risky with disease?
Yes the bodies are used for petfood
GSP's got attitude if you don't involve them in the stuff aye ?
Choice one Neil philpott do you sell to possum world. Thank you.
No I dont
Good stuff!!! Love to hunt Sika stags!
Why ??
why what
Still contracting Neil?
No just private trapping
