เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 19 มี.ค. 2020
Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery is a 19th century ironmasters home that was converted into a school and museum in the early 20th century. Though the school has closed the building is still open to the public as a museum and art gallery which showcases stunning art collections, historic artefacts and a whole host of hidden treasures.

The Court Hounds Wild Escape! Created by Merthyr Scouts!
As part of a project with the Wild Escape, we at Cyfarthfa Castle worked with Merthyr Scouts and Light on the Water Video Productions to create a stop motion film, bringing to life a painting from the collection at Cyfarthfa Castle. The Scouts found out about 'The Court Hounds' paintings and how it links to the origins of Cyfarthfa's naming. The Scouts came up with the story and the characters, as well as constructing the sets and figures and recording the sound effects!
The Wild Escape is the largest ever collaboration between the UK’s museums. Supported by Arts Council England, the project aims to inspire hundreds of thousands of children to visit museums and respond creatively to the threat to the UK’s natural environment by looking for animals featured in museum collections and creating their own wildlife artworks.
The Wild Escape is made possible by lead support from Arts Council England’s National Lottery Project Grants, with additional support from The Federation of Museums and Galleries in Wales, Art Fund and a group of generous individuals and trusts.

That was interesting. I've been to Morlais castle but wasn't aware of the battle of Maes Vaynor. Will try to find a walk around there and visit again.
Scrap that, Time Team (unofficial)
God forgive me. Nice slab on top, to keep all his gold there with him
And a popular "perhaps not a myth," from the 1950's when I heard it, and probably much earlier. Whatever the motivation for "God Forgive Me" on the tombstone it was said that the words "Too Late You Old Bastard" were added shortly afterwards in paint! And a common insult in Cefn: "Oh, one of Crawshay's grandchildren are you!"
Hynod diddorol. Diolch yn fawr.
Excellent program. Explained enthusiastically and very knowledgeable.
My dad was evacuated to Troedyrhiw on that train! He was billeted to Troedyrhiw farm with his brother to the care of Farmer Jones and family.
the man on the tank with the moustache is named john collins, he was my grandfather and was a merthyr man who participated in this parade on the julian tank shortly before or after being rewarded by king george the V
Would love to see an Eidophone in action! Sounds fascinating
I was just there on Holiday 💙💙
Daniel Bowen is my Grandfather, his 2 Daughters were Margret Sandra(my mother) and Patricia. Our family still has the giant book given to my grandfather. Thank you great video
Didn't they partition of some production in the 80's to manufacture the Sinclair C5 electric vehicle?
brilliant insight into the rising
Where is the wicked stepmother?
Great , thx Chris , more please ...
Thankyou for the video 😊
Yet another excellent presentation.
I used to love going to the Museum when I was young. I grew up in Merthyr and worked at Teddingtons in Cefn until I emigrated to Canada in 1968. I really enjoyed this video which brought back many good memories. Regards, Alan Owen
Excellent interesting video created from a book, very well done and lovely to watch something without annoying special effects that spoil many videos these days. I have a connection with Hoover Ltd in that back in the 1960's until 1999 we were a Hoover Service centre and as a young man I was very proud to wear the Hoover name on my jacket. It is so sad that the once highly respected name of Hoover is now used on cheaply made low quality vacs made in China. The first washing machines made in this factory was the model 0307 which I believe was the first UK mass produced washer.
The engine would have also been smaller, with a shorter chimney and small flywheel due to the tunnel on the line
Very intersting , thank you .
I own the poster sold to build enough money for his statue which they kindly gave me a signed photo with. I also have framed the last fight poster against Pintor. Great video
Brilliant , there is so much History attatched to Merthyr Tydfil . Iron and then Steel using the first Bessemer Converter , which added Carbon into the Iron mix .
Johnny Owen lives eternal. He is immortal.
Who is the gentleman talking please?
Me! Christopher Parry.
@@cyfarthfacastle, The Man!
Thank you for sharing,
Brilliant Chris - always an entertaining and educational video - Happy Christmas 🎄
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed. Merry Christmas!
Listening to this in 2022 & it feels we haven't improved. We have rail , postal, nurses & ambulance strikes for pay & conditions. Food, gas, electricity prices etc at an all time high. History repeating itself.!!! Great podcast came by it on wanting to learn about my heritage. 👍
It certainly feels that way sometimes! Thank you for listening and very glad you enjoyed!
Proud to call him my grandad
Interesting and informative video.

I, too was only 9 when he died and I remember the news bulletin showing the fight. What a brave, dedicated man. RIP Johnny 🙏
Wonderful history. Wonderfully presented. Many thanks
you know i never thought about how lucky i was to go to school here. now the places my kids go are litteral prisons in comparison.
i wish i had this book lol
Excellent video. I am Cornish and live in Redruth, close to Trevithick's home. It's so sad that he died penniless in Dartford Kent. Thanks again.
I am Cornish and was born in the womens hospital. The family of my late wifes's mother lived in Pontlottyn, not far from Merthyr.
By all accounts he was the last officer in the Lipsett family.
My old school early 80’s fab memories!
My old school x
My brother started here in 1963 and I followed in 1964, Antony and John Pawlowski, this school taught us so much .
Re: Pandy Clock "myth". Possibly you may have the myth ass-backwards? When I attended Cyfarthfa in the 1960's it was commonly thought that the clock tower with the three faces was financed by the workers. It was built with three faces so as to exclude the Crawshays - i.e. No face toward Cyfarthfa Castle. This was also the belief of my father who also attended Cyfarthfa in the mid 1920's. Makes more sense? agree?
Thank you so much for sharing this incredible artist's work, wonderful video!
Thank you for watching!
Well done Chris parry awesome podcast bruv
Thank you very much!
I am 75 yr old born in London,my mother came from Abercynon and up until i was adout 15 we always spent our school holidays at my grand parents in Abercynon. indeed i was Christened in Saint Gwynnos Church at the rear of my grand parents house in Lock Street. On a weekend if the weather was nice we would walk from Abercynon to Quakers Yard along the track bed of Trevithicks Penydarren railway and over the "bridge with no sides" over the Taff returning along Goitre-Coed Road, i always remember the square stone blocks visible in places that held that old metal plateway track in place along the route,i wonder i any remain stll? In our school history lessons Trevithick was always first and Stephenson second, I enjoyed the industrial history of the area particularly as i lived in the suburbs of North London, it could be the reason why that when i left school i started work on the railway aged 15yr as an engine cleaner! I am a supporter of a local heritage railway and rest in comfort most know of Trevithick.
RIP johnny. I was only a kid then but I have never forgot u.
Bloody heroes
Look up the definition of Castle, this is a HOUSE!
We know it is a family home and not a castle but when it was constructed and designed it was called Cyfarthfa Castle, so when we use the word castle we use it as a name not as a castle at all, as it is not even remotely close to what a strictly designed castle would have to be. Think of it as the name of the house more than anything.
