Archfiend lets the player choose attack or defense position. It may not matter in this instance because its being used for an xyz summon, but could have mattered if the maliss player had more interruptions. 5:00 the maliss player could have flipped archfiend, sent doormouse to grave to bystial summon and get the maliss engine going.

You may have since corrected yourself since then, but for the record, the card is Dark World ACCESSion, not "Ascension". Accession meaning acquisition of power (because the card leads into the summoning of powerful Fusion monsters). It's a continuation of the Dark World themes used for their Spell cards surrounding things like feudal hierarchy, ancient literature and antiquities (i.e. Dark World Archives, Dark World Dealings, Dark World Grimoire).
