Flying is as close to Heaven as you can get without leaving the earth for good. Paragliding is a peaceful way to enjoy the beauty of the sky and not much driving is required. Hang gliding is faster and can be done when the wind is much stronger. On those days when the hills are socked in with clouds, it helps to have an ultralight. I can get in the air with the least fuss by flying my ultralight.
South Wind Returns
I though that I would see warmer temperatures, but I had to stay low due to even colder temperatures at altitude. It was an otherwise smooth flight with some turbulence in the valley east of Tenino.

Warming Up
มุมมอง 13721 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Well, it was up to 30 degrees when I took off. I thought there might be an inversion that would allow me to find some warmer air. No such luck, so I went back down to 900 ft and it still felt like the Artic. I got in 55 minutes before I headed for the warmth of my drive home.
Frostbite Day
มุมมอง 22614 วันที่ผ่านมา
The day started out below freezing and it did not get much warmer, however, the day was very smooth and the skies relatively clear.
Mima mounds
มุมมอง 8821 วันที่ผ่านมา
I was going to title the video, something like don't trust the forecast, but even though my take-off was pleasant, it blew like crazy for several minutes before I flew. I could see evidence of strong wind potential in the air and on the ground, but I not find it seriously turbulent.
Puddle Jumping
มุมมอง 28728 วันที่ผ่านมา
The weather forecast was for 4000 ceiling. That didn't happen. I did get to fly a few feet above the Chehalis runway though.
New Year's Day
มุมมอง 452หลายเดือนก่อน
Relatively calm conditions, versus last night, when I could have gotten a bottle rocket up my butt.
Going Nowhere
มุมมอง 192หลายเดือนก่อน
It was super calm on the ground so I decided to fly south. Somewhere above 700 ft the wind was almost 30 MPH out of the south, but SMOOTH. I didn't encounter any wind sheer either. I just couldn't get anywhere with a ground speed of 6 MPH.
Black Friday
มุมมอง 4492 หลายเดือนก่อน
Another beautiful day. I decided to fly to the steam plant because it is a cumulous generator. Can't get away from the cold. I saw a PPG before I took off.
Lifting columns
มุมมอง 4752 หลายเดือนก่อน
I initially thought of calling this video "lifting" , but the cloud formations were so beautiful, I saw columns rising in certain areas around the valley. Super smooth air, but cold as expected.
The wind that wasn't
มุมมอง 2142 หลายเดือนก่อน
High wind and rain in the forecast, fortunately didn't manifest itself. I got smacked around a bit on landing, but most of the flight was smooth
Sprites
มุมมอง 1262 หลายเดือนก่อน
Air was pretty smooth, but surprisingly strong at just 800 ft altitude or so. Going south was slow, but returning was swift.
See for Miles
มุมมอง 1582 หลายเดือนก่อน
Clear but cold. I did not try to stay at higher altitudes as it was more enjoyable near the surface.
Low Contrast Day
มุมมอง 743 หลายเดือนก่อน
Smooth day. Not too cold. I found some unexpected cloud suck at 3000 ft. Conditions were milder than predicted.
Fog Delay
มุมมอง 1053 หลายเดือนก่อน
Ceilings were as low as 500 ft until I finally got a break to climb up between layers. I dressed for the cold.
Everybody's Sunshine
มุมมอง 1913 หลายเดือนก่อน
The sky opened up and then it closed again. Winds aloft were strong, but smooth.
Buenas compañero buen vuelo me ha gustado mucho y tu tranquilidad Que tengas un buen día

Quite amusing. I do envy you man, this flight experience is just precious. 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for viewing.
Burrrrrrrrrr!
And then some.
Yep I agree the cold starts to soak in. Was 29 degrees when I took off last weekend and engine runs slightly leaner 😊😊
Frostbite aside I have to think that the motor runs really well when it's cooler.... lol, are you wearing tennis shoes? And of the trikes w/ a Glider Wing I like the idea of a nose cone. Just someplace to tuck you feet/legs when landing, I'd hate to go thru a bounce that threw one leg out & caught the ground = snap your arse like a wishbone? peace & GB
I don't fiddle with the carb much so when it is colder, the dense air matches better with the richer fuel at the low end and it runs smooth. I wear g-defy and I guess the insulation could be better, but boots would make operating the foot throttle harder. Overall, I have found better braking and control by keeping my feet in the wheel well on the friction brake, than by dragging my legs beside me. Foot braking doesn't improve the appearance of my shoes, either.
As I research you know there's an "Airbike".... lol, I laugh at the thing b/c I can foresee the destruction of your lower limbs if you have a problem in landing? That goes for any aircraft that your feet/legs can easily get outside the frame of the aircraft. Yeah, I made fun of your cold feet but I totally understand now that you said it. You can control all of it with those tennis shoes & boots might barely fit into that small area, I do understand being able to feel/respond better when using tennis shoes. Ohh, I'd never advocate for braking w/ your feet although some probably do it some? I'm glad you got home & have thawed out... I'll be seeing the next ride into the sky, thanks for the video. peace
@@diggy-d8w Thanks for viewing. After a few hours, my feet felt fine.
thanks / GB
Mima Mounds huh.... never heard of them but I happen to think they are much more than "pimples on the land" ! I have no clue what they are but thanks to you I'll be digging into this topic. See how things work,,, lol, peace
I've been LQQKing deeply into aircraft of the Part 103 types & there's so many that are #103 aircraft but there are also many that are not & the difference in them can be minute. Weight, number of seats, fuel tank size, and other rules limit things so I've got to be careful in my search. I'm starting to really like the Glider Winged Trikes & I think I like the controls of a glider wing better than a stick + common aircraft controls. The glider wing seems more natural to the body movements & I like the pusher style as well but I'm curious about the way the wing/trike are connected? That's a super important part of this aircraft & not many of these channels talk much about the actual connection? How different are different connectors to the trikes & are some better than others. Are any more dangerous or have they failed? Again, I'm only researching & asking pilots this stuff as I lack the proper words to research them..... lol, tells you how uneducated I am but I landed here to learn. Thanks for the video >> peace
Certainly the keel attachment point is triple sleeved. The connection point has to be able to move in 2 planes. My trike has a nylon block between 2 plates. I inspect it every time I fly. The attachment point illustrated the value of ordering the wing and trike from the same manufacturer.
Thank you for that, indeed it's a good reason to buy from the same point..... I've yet to see anyone speak on the subject & I'm only now making mention to you. It's more critical than even the engine, in my opinion. Ohh, and my opinion is a very humble non-educated one. I asked you b/c I could actually see the "Joint" operating as you flew. The great stress that's on this piece drives me to look into deeply. Thank you again, peace
HNY👍
Happy New Years Day..... is this a flight you did today? I do like these little trikes w/ a glider styled wing but I don't know the proper terminology to speak about any of this. So I'm learning here & if you land safely, I'm learning from a good teacher !! peace
Yes. The weather has had me grounded for a while, so I decided that I should publish this flight on the same day as I made it. My glider and trike can broadly be referred to as an ultralight. Curiously microlights are somewhat heavier in construction. My trike is also sometimes referred to as a "soaring trike" and comes under the narrower definition of a FAR part 103 ultralight, (same section applies to unpowered hang gliders and paragliders).
I do appreciate hearing an explanation from folks living the dream from within the community. The rules are all over the place & while I've got the written Part 103 rules for the United States, the problem is some of the video creators showing various aircraft & using a host of names, some correct & some are "slang" so it confuses people like myself. In that you know I thank you for sharing with me. "Nano" is another word & this reminds me of tissues for the nose. Many might ask for a, "Kleenex" b/c it's a brand of tissue & I suspect some names for these aircraft are mixed into the discussion for their brand or model? But all confusion aside, thanks for helping me figure things out. Perhaps one day when I know better what I'm talking about, I can get an instructor to take me out flying to get some knowledge.... yeah. peace & Happy New Year
@@diggy-d8w I certainly wish you the best, and don't hesitate to contact me with questions.
@@pilotdavelittle thanks very much..... peace
Beautiful Landscape!
Thanks.
So Dave, after watching you climb up into the heavens I can't help but to ask what the long pole jutting out the back of the wing might connect to? It looks so all alone & I know it must have had some type of winglet or control surface?? IDKnow but I subb'd up to find out? peace
The ultralight I fly is based on a hang glider atop a trike. A hang glider can rest on the ground, but in order for it not to bend or detune the tips, it has a keel so that it can rest on the control bar and the keel at the back. In the air, it performs no particular function.
Ahh, you see that I'm so new that IDKnow what's what yet? I'm older so a license is not a likely path for me but Pt 103 is very possible. As I looked thru all the choices(there are many), I saw the parachutes & hang glider variety w/ trikes. I liked the Hang Glider for the control inputs being operated by a body bar instead of the normal controls of a plane. Parachute models are out for me but these hang glider w/ a trike are looking attractive but I don't know if there's a standard "Joint/Connector" for the trike -n- wing to attach? I'm that early in my journey but the freedom I saw in this one video was impressive, in my most humble opinion. If you have a certain video or list of them that you think are really good, please drop the link & I'll go check them out. Thanks for flying & sharing the flight. peace
@@diggy-d8w The attachment point is likely to vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Ultralights have a "beefed-up" keel for attachment and the CG may be different, more forward than a standard hang glider attachment. The side wires are typically larger (1/8th) rather than (3/16th) for a regular hang glider. Getting the pitch setup right can be tricky so I bought the assembled trike and wing from North Wing in order to avoid being a test pilot. I had a painful experience many years back, in which the CG was not correctly set and I came down and demolished the entire ultralight. I got a broken rib for my effort. I would agree that a motorized hang glider, part 103 is the way to go. Fewer restrictions, but should have an aviation band radio if you are flying from an airport shared with GA. I have an old Garmin that keeps me oriented when above the clouds. I have an old Hall wind meter for airspeed, but it is more informational than critical. The pitch is set and it takes a significant effort to slow down or speed up, so I do not need to watch an indicator.
Yes, I assumed a lot of things & beefier is better to me.... lol, I'm starting to really like the "trikes" & I like the cone on yours even though it is small. It goes against my better judgment to have my legs hanging out. I've seen one Pt103 aircraft that is a bicycle-plane, that's the name but loose legs is asking for a problem. In any event, of the designs I've seen I'm partial to ones that have some "cone" around the legs & to offer some small area for gauges. I'm sorry you learned some of this the hard way, I have suffered broken ribs before(much empathy) ! And your decision to buy like a matched pairing fits into my thought process as just smart. I'm having the thoughts you went thru, I guess everyone goes thru wondering what will work w/ what & what is safe as well? I'm glad you mention the COG b/c I had not thought about it w/ these but I think if you were trying to use different companies you'd need to be extra careful for that problem or if you had the idea of building your own trike. And although I think I could build a trike.... lmao, I'd never trust myself w/o some expert having looked it all over & making sure I used the highest quality materials in the build. You've shared more today than I've seen in several months of looking. I'll be digging thru your videos to see things I have missed & I'm not able to buy right now. No where near ready so I'll be researching for a long time before I just do it ! I always research the thing & I don't do any impulsive buying of used stuff either. I do appreciate the time & I'm off to see other things on your channel. peace, I'll be waiting for your next installment. GB
@@diggy-d8w The nose cone is mainly for warmth. Otherwise cold air can be rammed up my pants. Another consideration is if you can hangar your ultralight. Not having a king post expands your options, because a king post adds 4 or 5 feet of height.
Which air strip is this!
Cool...

Nice flight Dave! What trike are you flying there? Can you give me some specs?
Thanks The wing is a Solaris 17 meter. The trike is an ATF with a nose cone. They are from North Wing. The engine is a Simonini 2+ 28 HP max 7400 RPM
Wow

Very nice,,, again. I'm very jealous of you😍 At approx 7:28 , your shadow in the cloud. Cheers
Thanks. I try to film the glory whenever the conditions are right.
So cool! a buttery smooth landing, but i wish you had more cameras.
Thank you. You can see how the wind kept trying to turn me to the left on landing. I have flown with multiple cameras but it is more equipment to malfunction. I finally got my go-pro 8 to perform and stay linked to the remote. I briefly had a go-pro 10 that was a disaster. My 3 still works but the images are a bit washed out and sometimes shaky. Main concern with cameras is that the remote has to tell me when I am recording and when I am not.
Thanks. My RPM is based on my intention. On days when I want to stay low, I will set as low as 5500. If turbulent, I will need more RPM. On days when I want to top the clouds, I generally climb at 6700. Take off may be as high as 7400.
Ok thanks
Another great flight! What rpm do you use for climbing? My Minari says full throttle for 30 seconds then continuous cruise 6,500-7,000 but they don’t really say max for long climb. Thanks Ken
Nice
Thank you.

Glorious!
Thanks
How did you get into flying like this?
I took some aircraft training way back in the late 60s. I started hang gliding in 1977. I finished GA pilot training in 1980, but only flew enough to stay current. I took up paragliding in 2011 and bought my trike in 2012. I had about an hour of training before I flew my ultralight and the takeoff was imperfect. (everyone on the ground thought I was going to die). I gained control and thought things through as i developed some muscle memory for flying the trike. (it really did have a turn that tightened with excess speed). That has been addressed. You really have to work to stall a Northwing Solaris, and diving is near impossible but turbulence or over-control can get you into an increasingly tight spiral. I generally do not fly when surface winds exceed 10 miles per hour. I recommend storage in a hangar rather than spending most of your time assembling and disassembling.
@ I didn’t understand sone of that which tells me I should learn more before attempting:D
Sorry if I confused you. I am willing to share more insight, if you wish.
Looks cold and wet there. At least I saw a little bit of sun. Take care.
Thanks. It was moderate for this time of year. It did not rain until the evening.
Wow! I like flying when it's that clear. Great job on the video.

The little puffs of clouds below and out in front of you at 3:07. Were kind of interesting. Kind of looked like the sky could close in.
Actually, it tried to a couple times. I had t turn around or drop altitude.
Was contemplating a chute on my atf. Do you have any thoughts about parachutes?
I have a hand deploy reserve chute on my ATF. I do not remember the brand, and I have been pretty lax about repacking it. I have routed the lanyards a specified by Northwing.. I have one carabiner attachment point for separating the wing from the trike . It is all on the side that my camera does not see.
How bout sending some of that moisture our way. It's drier than a popcorn fart here in Idaho. Nice flight.
I am sorry about your drought. I sure hope that there are not any fires that get started due to the dry conditions.
Since that time you broke your wrist I always make sure you stick landing before I give the thumbs up
I have not flown my paraglider since April. I don't want to break any more bones..
I don't see much sign of fall there yet but I guess this was posted a month ago.
Yep. I forgot to share it when I made it
Beautiful . Took me right back to when I had a Chaser S Trike (UK) back in the 90's. Happy days
Thanks for the review.

Thank you.
Thats it! Im moving there👍😁 Cheers
Welcome to Washington!
Nice one again 👍 Did you make a deal with a crossroads demon to get such great flying conditions🤣 Do you hanger your trike where fly from and if so do you fold back wing. Just curious as to what some do. I have an enclosed trailer and fold back wing on trike and travel 20 mins to field. Still working on rebuilding my trike since a little mishap last year. Back to flying next year. All the best to you and yours
I keep my trike fully set up in a hangar. I pay $200 per month. I live close enough to the hangar, that I can anticipate the local weather.
Hello over there and great to see you again this monday. 7:03 pm Sat.
