beginning to think Berk 18 isn't your real name ... but awesome work man, thank you BIGLY.
Ouch. Watching the game, it was evident that the pass rush was really hurting the Bears. This breakdown lets us see why.
So good I had to watch it again, almost 2 years later.
That was a great game! Happily I got to watch it from the visitor's section of the Coliseum. There were a lot of happy Cal fans celebrating at the guardrail with the team afterwards!
like it im in youth and i ging to play this positon
Go get 'em!
Great work Berk !
Sad I missed this live, but great breakdown of one of our best wins of the season.
Thank you Berk 18, looking forward to it.
sturdivant analysis coming soon?
Definitely! I'm not sure when exactly, but within a week or two.
Berk, you forgot the most valuable player. She would be the woman who came onto the field with her protest, sat right over the ball, caused the clock to be stopped, giving us a 4th TO and a chance to set up the scoring play.
Haha, I totally forgot about that!
amazing analysis.
Nice detailed analysis!!!
Nice analysis Berk
Great stuff as always!
Gonna be a good one, good luck to y’all, go illini!
Good luck to you as well!
I heard nine Cal defensive players have been suspended including two starters (besides safety "flake-out").
teller121 suspended for what?
@@jeremyandrew4367 no idea, but I saw more info on it yesterday. I'm out of this game. Tired of this bowl bullshit. Maybe one bowl in seven worth a shit from betting perspective. Between the flake-outs (5 defensive starters for UGA, 2 last year) who don't want to play anymore, the teams that no-show (SMU) and the lay-offs from end of reg season leading to unpredictable play...the regular season is the way to go. There are opportunities but you better have some really good info. I thought Cal was a good one but it was just one safety sitting out for Cal, now it's also a starting LB and a bunch of defensive reserves, plus Illinois QB back. I almost want to take Ill now but...they are Illinois.
@@teller121 So you were wrong with the Cal info, and it sounds like your main attachment to college football is that it enables you to lose money by following your shitty gambling instincts. Cool stuff.
Utah will win easy, 50-7
Where’s the run game
I've got a writeup of it for $2.99 at www.berk18.com
@@berk183 😂🤣
Once again, great analysis!
such an insightful breakdown! glad to see the nuances of the offense executed well. go bears!
Id take him in the 3rd 4th.. he's just small but very good. I get Russell vibes
Like and subscribe !!!
Awesome breakdown!
Ok first of all cals defense has not ever been good compared to Utah just saying
Great breakdown!
Great stuff man! Keep em coming.
Hi berk good stuff as usual no matter how depressing the content. I didn’t see this on CBG so am asking here. On the last play when the CB has the flat and the S has the TE why doesn’t the CB go to the flat with the wr? If he had gotten the ball I think it would have been a challenging tackle. Thanks
Thanks! This will be on CGB at 3pm. When the CB doesn't lock up on that, it's usually because he's zoning off, and so is potentially responsible for something like a Corner route to the back corner of the EZ. Typical procedure is to drop to take that away, and then to rally to the underneath throw. Guys do this with varying degrees of success, but it's not out of the question for someone in that position to rally while the ball's in the air; there's a lot of east/west flight time for a throw like that, and a good CB can get there surprisingly quickly. There are also lots of guys who will play that really badly and give up the TD, hah, but we don't usually get burned by that.
DC (College) here; because Cal was in Blue Goalline, The CB and S will check to stop nows, pic routes and rub plays, that is first assignment, then the CB is aligned with outside flat will alert to any threats for picks. Because of split rules and OC put WRs close together. and the CB will have zone-on-demand just in case if it was a pick, unless the routes is 5 yards and under, then it will be man like it was during the play Utah ran. S had TE and CB had H back. Even before the game, Cal defense coaches, had film of all the goal-lines plays and the bunch plays too. They knew Utah offense sets and try to expect what is coming for goal-lines plays to defend.
@@coachanderson2704 Good stuff coach, thanks for the insight!
Coach Anderson thanks for the details. Challenging to defend around pick (i mean rub...) plays the offense uses to free up routes!
Hi Berk. I put this comment here since it doesn't really apply to CGB but if you are looking for P12 content video topics, I've been wondering what is going on with Chip at ucla. He had so much success with the ducks and he's had enough years to get his type of players in the program. At oregon he bragged about how he didn't care if anyone had his playbook because his plays always made someone wrong. So why isn't that working now? I'm guessing the QB isn't Mariota but oregon had success with lots of QBs. Maybe do an analysis with addictedtoquack? Anyway, great content as always and I appreciate your interaction with my dumb questions...! Go Bears!
That's a good idea, I've definitely been keeping an eye on UCLA. This actually sounds like the kind of thing that I'd do in the off-season as a Patreon study, where I'd have time to look at a few different games to bring out different issues. My quick answer, though, is that UCLA's offense is better than it looks, but they got off to a rough start by facing three ~top-30 defenses (Cincinnati, SDSU, Oklahoma). If you only look at conference games, they're currently in the top-10 in the country and have put up well over 400 yards in all of their last four games. They're also slightly out-performing the rest of the conference against those four teams, and they did all of this without their starting QB in one game. They definitely aren't back to the level of Chip's Oregon teams, but they're also re-building much more than those Duck teams were. Over the last few years I've broken UCLA's offense down a few times on the Patreon site, but their last game (against Stanford) was the first time that they looked schematically like I'd expect them to, so it might be that they're just starting to round into form. It'll definitely be a storyline that I'll feature in the off-season, though, and I'll make some free videos on here to highlight a few key points and support the longer Patreon posts.
Thanks for the video! Go ducks!
Thanks! I'm thinking about making one about this defensive dominance vs. Colorado that's going on right now. Are there any Duck communities that you know of that might be interested?
Duck fan here. Thank you for this. We've been so confused at what the heck our offense is even supposed to be and many have been frustrated at our OC. Thanks to your breakdown I have a much deeper respect for what our Coaches are trying to do. Thank you and good luck this season!
Thanks a lot! This is just one look at one formation, so it's definitely not definitive, but it does illustrate a broader pattern that I see when I look for tendencies in the Duck offense. Good luck to you all as well!
Duck fan here as well and agree with you darn808pinoy. I have a much higher appreciation of Arroyo now.
As usual, wow, berk. BTW- this is Bowlesman80. Thanks for your work.
Hi Berk, didn't see this posted on CBG so asking here... Was the CU DL just trying to contain Tate and not really rushing hard? In the examples you showed sometimes they get to a point then stop the rush. Seemed weird. Thanks
Hey! Yeah, I'm trying to branch out and cover more of the conference, and this one wasn't too relevant to CGB. I think that what you said definitely factored into some plays. You can usually spot this by how much upfield push the DE's are getting. The basic idea is called a "Mush Rush," where there's limited upfield push. This is especially important at the DE position, because if they're your contain players and they end up getting behind the QB, then you don't really have contain players any more. Another schematic factor, though, is that sometimes those DE's might not've been responsible for contain. Colorado played a lot of the game with wide OLB's, and while we might think of them as "coverage players," their assignments also put them wide on the edge in position to defend any kind of QB roll out or scramble. So there, the DE's might just be trying to collapse the pocket with an interior rush, because the QB can't leave the pocket without facing those unblocked OLB's.
Awesome berk. Thank you.
Amazing analysis.

“Then this what is going to happen”
Dang he's fast
On the second (bad) run to the boundary it looks like the center released from the LB and started to go for 41 then came back to the OLB. What do you think he was trying to do? Regarding the passes to the crossers, do you think we will have time in the UW game for those routes to develop? I'm guessing Peterson is going to blitz us a lot from various spots. Thanks Berk!
Hey! I replied on CGB, so you can get my answers there. Thanks!
