Hi and welcome to Scotty Garage. This is my place for information and fun when it comes to repairing, modifying, and basic mechanics for motorized machines. I say motorized machines, because i like to work on everything I can get my hands on. I work on cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and well anything I can work or learn to work on. I made this to pass some of my knowledge and love of mechanics. I am not a professional or an expert I am an old school shade tree mechanic. I started working on cars at the age of 13 restoring a car with my dad. I have evolved over time and eventually worked in automotive repair. I enjoyed the work and learned a ton from some great people, but I decided to move on to something that I could pass on to others. I now work in education. I was a high school teacher and had a great time teaching kids about history and some life lessons as they needed them. I am now a school counselor at a middle school. I will always love mechanics and want to share my passion.

Vet does the Pledge of Allegiance.
มุมมอง 294 ปีที่แล้ว
this was at a poker run for homeless vets. this guy served 39 years in the military and served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. I am at a total loss of words over the sacrifices and Hades he went through for this country and what he believes in. I spoke with him and shared a tear over my Grandfather who passed two years ago and was also a WWII vet.
Harley Davidson Motorcycle Air Horn Install
มุมมอง 17K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This video is designed to show how easy it is to install a 150 db mini air horn and relay into a motorcycle. I installed this onto my Harley Davidson Softail. I did modify a couple things on the build. One thing I did was change the yellow wire that came with it for a longer red wire to be able to mount it where I wanted to mount it. This horn is nice and loud. I do think this is a worthwhile m...
Harley Davidson Air Intake Breather Bypass
มุมมอง 117K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This video deals with getting rid of what some call the "Harley Slobber." Th ugly little oil drip that comes out of the intake of a Harley Davidson. Mine has an Arlen Ness Big Sucker Air intake system and I hate oil dripping onto the motor or getting on my pants when it is not necessary. There is a way to bypass this problem and it involves a little time, a couple basic tools and knowledge. I o...
Review of a GoPro mount on my Harley Davidson
มุมมอง 1.6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a video I made of a new GoPro mount and camera case I bought for my Softail. I needed a more stable set up for the GoPro. I needed to make this change as the original location was shaky and noisy and I wanted a more stable location. I had replaced my headlights with LED and when I went on a night ride with the GoPro mounted I did not like the video I shot and decided to do this little u...
Harley Davidson Softail Headlight Swap Halogen to LED
มุมมอง 26K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This video shows the changing of the headlight on my wife's 2008 HD Softail from Halogen to a set of LED headlights and Passing lights. This is not a difficult job on most bikes, but a great project to do if you are new to working on bikes. Please disconnect your battery before working on electrical systems. Check out @scottygarage on Instagram and our Facebook page called Scotty Garage. Specia...
Harley Davidson Front Brake Master rebuild (06 Softail)
มุมมอง 38K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This video shows how to rebuild a Harley-Davidson Softail Front Brake Master Cylinder. This is for the single caliper model of brake master. This is a video that can also be used for learning how to rebuild brake master cylinders in general, as they all work in a similar fashion. This is also a non-abs unit. My first actual video, I hope you enjoy it and learn or answer a question. I am plannin...
Excelent video... what brand of kit do you use? Que marca es el kit que utilizaste?
You fast forwarded through the part I really needed to see.
@ronnym1977 what part, maybe I can explain or help.
the fuggin music....
Terrific information, thanks for posting!!!
would love to see the video when you're changing those like you mentioned :)
Is it possible to just get that plunger seal outside o ring
Not by itself it comes with the kit.
too many words!!!
Danke für die Anleitung
Lining the headlight housing with aluminum foil would make these even better!
all that talking and you dont explain the direction of the dust cap seal. its flat end down by the way. more to the point less talky talky
ty, thats the whole reason I checked on utube, to see which direction it went on
Do you have a link for these headlights? I don’t wanna get something wrong.
No I do not, but you can find them on Amazon or Motorcycle parts Sellers
Thanks brother
How about an update on the Catch Can? Finished product and how & where you mounted it? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks...
I wish I could add an update. My bike was stolen and wrecked in a police chase. It was doing great until then though. I do have a new bike an 06 ultra, that I am hoping to start making videos with soon.
@scottygarage7408 OH man, bummer about your scooter! Sorry to hear that, hope you're new ride treats you right. Appreciate the response...great install video btw! Thanks
In your next video, can you cover how to unplug the orifice inside the master cylinder (or bench test it) where the brake fluid flows to the caliper? I have a 2000 Springer that I suspect has a clog somewhere in the brake lines or master cylinder because I am unable to get the fluid to flow out when attempting to bleed the system. Thx.
Did you find idling got different and any changes mate? Thinking of doing same thing but tap some brass elbows into it Great work by the way😊
I did not notice any change. I did notice less oil in the intake.
Where did you get the led replacement lights
Amazon.
What was the brand on Amazon? Thanks great video.
Great video we need more
Excellent 👍👍✌✌🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
She had trouble getting the headlight to line up and fit flush and she said, “Should there be a gap here?” And you skipped how she got it flush. My headlight doesn’t fit flush and it will not accept all 3 notches. I have a 2016 heritage softail classic. The plug on the headlight also doesn’t go in all the way to the receptacle. Did you do anything to get that headlight to fit flush because a response and video to her question was exactly what I have been searching all over TH-cam for. Any suggestions would surely be appreciated! Thanks.
It has been so long, that I do not recall. I will try to look at it amd see if I can recall. Also, hers is a 2008 , I am not sure if the headlight assembly is the same.
Hey Scotty thanks for the video very informative, but I just took 2 3/8 hoses from the top breather bolts, and let it drain under the bike instead of going through all that, no? Okay I could dress it up a little bit not the neatest thing but it works. In your case you have to worry about more leaks now. And I hate chasing down air leaks
What size tap did you use ?
I would be worried that the little screws would get sucked into the engine and crack a valve seat .
That is why used loctite and RTV in the hole.
Man i cannot find a self-tapping hex key set screw nowhere.! lol where did you get this.? Do you have a link...?
I did not use a self tapping hex. I used a tap and threaded the drill hole and used a regular hex.
Way to pan away right as she takes the cover off. Having trouble getting mine off
So what did you do with the holes in the back of the intake? I would guess that is not good to leave them open as it will suck air through it.
At 5:40 he discussed this.
Good video
Thanks for the great video Brother, If you have time to reply that would be great. My front brake is weak in general. I back down a ramp when leaving my garage/cargo box trailer, and my front brake just slows me but will not fully stop my 2010 Heritage classic. Any advise where to look first for the cause, or how to diagnose what the failing component is? I changed the fluid a year ago (dot 4), rotor and pads are good. No pulsing or anything else when applying front brake while riding. I figure it's got to the the cylinder of the caliper. Thanks if you can reply. I will check out your other vids.
Hey, a couple quick thoughts is that you have air in the line, weak master cylinder, the brake hose has debris or is clogging, or some other oddity. I would check those from easiest to hardest.
It's been 2 years since this video, did anybody tell him that they make an automatic center punch that can be had for about $10? Sure would have made that a lot cleaner!
I agree that would have made it cleaner and since that video I was broken into and had many of my tools stolen, but I actually added ones of those into the collection and I recommend using them for a cleaner job. We learn as we go, never stop learning.
Oil on the filter is the least of the downsides
I installed this on my softail and I seem to be getting water in the catch can,I guess it's condensation but nobody has said anything about that happening.
That could be condensation, but the question is how much and how often?
This video helped me out so much. I'm not to mechanical. But literally every ounce of this video made it so much easier. Thank you
You are welcome. Glad it was able to help.
Don't lose those little quarter size round gaskets. I had one pop out of my stage 1 BIG sucker and I had issues until minor issues until I realized what had happened.
Thanks brother Scotty. I'm on a sportster iron 1200 and alot of the issues you guys are having on some of the big bikes, I'm obviously having same/similar, so I appreciate vids like this. God bless you
I think you did just fine with this video! There is a button for people to skip around for a reason! I like the content!
You got a follow for the content but mostly the Sctties lol.
I want to start doing content again soon and McGee is arroooing to work on a bike
Great video, my question is doesn't the bike lose its vacuum, it needs that vacuum or am I missing something, let me know.
It does not lose the vacuum. It gets vacuum out of the manifold which is behind the air intake.
Nobody cares about your life history I tapped out after 2 minutes
Not “combustion gasses, crank case gasses.
Good catch, yes crank case gases.
Go up it works great an no oil gets away just crankcase pressure
I trust your quality control team more than any dealership.
I trust your quality control team more than any dealership
Same here they help out a lot.
Omg such bs. I tried to out that stupid dust cap seal on. It would not budge. Have to get a rebuild kit now. Annoying af
ya mine was a bitch to get off, 1/2 hr with a tiny screw driver digging away
Are they by Sunpie or Truckmall?
I believe they were Sunpie.
What part number is that?
Where do I purchase a rebuild kit? I have a 2004 dyna wide glide. I did notice a lot of them master cylinder assembly are the same.
Go to the dealer and give your bike specs and they should be able to get you the right kit.
Thanks for the Information. Saved my ass before attempting to do it myself...... then not being able put back together
You are welcome. Glad that I was able to help.
If your getting that much oil in your breather/ air filter, perhaps you should go through your motor anyway?
All twin cams and M8s puke that much oil. Take the spark plugs out and look at top of pistons after 10,000 miles.
Got mine in the garage and going to install this week. Thank You! I miss having my husband around to help. It was nice to see you two doing this together. :-)
Thank you, my wife and I try to do things together life is short.
Too much chatting, not enough rebuilding
Yeah, it was my first video. Still learning.
trun stupid sounding background music off
