Walther PDP Steel Frame 4.5" Unboxing
A Walther PDP for Competition, this is the Steel Frame 4.5" model. It does not come with a Magwell, but I will be using this for USPSA Carry Optics Division. The reason I went with this one over the 5" Match is due to many individual shooters who have switched from the PDP Match to the 4.5" who claim that the 4.5" returns to zero much easier and doesn't dip down as far as the 5" PDP Match.
In a near future video, I will be showing some upgrades. We will be adding a ZR Tactical Solutions Long Stroke Guide Rod, Lok Grips, an OEM Walther Dynamic Performance Trigger, and a Vortex Defender CompDot Optic.

Thank you for showing removing the grips. Someone said that you had to be very careful about removing them especial the saftey side but from what I am seeing this vedio it's a very simple. I just bought one around thanksgiving 2024 but where I live in Northern Maine it's not too fun going out shooting in freezing temps. Thanks again.
@@Steve-hc7ix Yes, it is very simple, you just take your time and don’t strip the screws. On the safety side you just rotate the grip out as shown! Thank you for watching Steve.
i got glock 43x break out 2.0. works fine and the idea is great but not very good retention, has fallen out on me
texted them tho, 10/10 customer service, said they’d replace but i can also try to tighten with some heat, giving that a shot and it did get tighter but not as tight as i’d feel safe with.
@@NikWuzHea it’s hit or miss with them, retention is not the same on all 3 of these, but at least they all retain enough, for now. Sorry to hear that happened to you man.
Appreciate seeing the breakdown! I’ve been eyeballing this one for a while now. It’s definitely on my short list for next pickups. Also looking forward to seeing the upcoming suppressor video.
Awesome! Thank you for watching my videos, I assume you are subscribed for the future suppressor video, I’m still waiting on paperwork with that suppressor but I will make the video as soon as I have it!
@ yep new subscriber 👍🏻 Do you know if the 7 round magazines fit from the old 3032 tomcats?
@@JamyRyals that is a great question! I should cover that in my next update on this gun, maybe in the suppressor video. Beretta changed the location of the magazine release for the 30x. The 3032 mags have a rear mag catch notch in them and the 30x mags have the new front notch in them, but Beretta also included the old rear notch in the 30x mags as well, So, the 3032 mags will not work in a 30x tomcat (unless you modify them and cut the front notch into them) but 30x mags will work out of the box from the factory in a 3032 since they have both the old and new mag catch notches in them.
@@shootingscience that’s actually pretty cool they have backwards compatibility. It makes sense that the old ones wouldn’t work with the new release location. I appreciate the time and info, I’ll be watching.
😊
Thanks for watching! :)
nice review thanks
Thanks for watching!
Have a Glock 45 early model non MOS and regret I didn't waited to get a MOS version. However I may get the new 19X MOS with treaded barrel or 45 MOS ?
The 19x is cool but the bottom of the grip of the 19x is different and has a little nub that prevents the use of some Glock magazines.
Good video! It's clear you actually use these things because you've picked up on a lot of the nuances. I had to sew the lip down on my sticky holster to prevent the slide release lever from catching. Also note that most of these style holsters stretch out a bit over time so if its a little tight at first, eventually it will be perfect. But like you said, you don't want to be jamming the gun into the holster because otherwise it will come out of the pocket during a draw.
@@wtdconcepts Thanks! Yes I do actually use stuff before I make a video, I want to be useful for the people who may venture to my channel! And yes, on the flap issue - you would think Sticky holsters would think of that, they make enough holsters, but now us gun guys have to source seamstresses to make the product work correctly, LOL.
@ I actually sewed it myself. It doesn’t look pretty but only took me about 20minutes. Don’t be afraid of a little needle and thread!

This is the way.
Thanks for this detailed and educational video. Do you know how this handles Underwood Xtreme Defender +P ammo?
That ammo has an energy of 135 ft lbs, which is too much for the older 3032 Tomcat but this 30x Tomcat is rated for 258 ft lb ammo, so this thing should handle it just fine! If I can find a box of it in stock somewhere I can make a video of that as well! Are you planning on buying a 30x Tomcat like this?
@@shootingscience I'd love to eventually. If you're willing, a ballistics test with such ammo would be awesome since I can't find video of this stuff shot from a pocket pistol. Thanks again

Walther legacy lives onn.
Indeed!
jsut to be clear.. i bought one last week.. and i got it early this week.. for my glock26 and the holster is fine.. all lined up, no issues, no scaping from the interior screw, no issues with edges of the holster, i was using another kydex holster before this one with edges that are the same thickness and rounding.. no issues with scraping..that i can tell at all, but i am not breaking it out every single draw, .. overall its a really really nice holster compared to my other iwb holsters
@@tribalncgaming1091 it’s kinda hit or miss, glad you got a good one, they also seem biased towards Glock in all their videos each time it’s a Glock, and out of the three holsters in the video I have the least issues with my Glock one
Great vid! PPS M2 LE was my very first CC firearm. The dots falling off is true! I was in mid qualifying for my concealed permit and my left rear dot fell off on me. Walther customer service was great and sent me new sights for the gun, but I ended up installing some TFX pro's instead. Such a comfortable and easy to conceal gun using an Alien Gear IWB holster. For the price, you can not go wrong, especially with all the stuff this package comes with. Stay safe out there!
Thanks! That is too funny about those sight dots popping off! Mine haven’t yet, but everyone says they will so I did end up getting some TruGlo Tritium Pros, I have not installed yet, but I will soon. @@brianrosner5244 Yes sir, I actually show that in another video on my channel! Did you know Gen 5 mags do not work with Xgrip sleeves out of the box? th-cam.com/video/7UwKsbfX99c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=alN4FE4bWmBp-JFQ
@@shootingscience didn’t know that but I ordered a Glock 20 mag and x grip fits nice on it
@ yep, Gen 4 mags and older will work. Gen 5 mags have an extended baseplate that needs to be swapped out with a Gen 4 baseplate to work with the XGrip sleeve!
@ yes, they fit great on Gen 3 and Gen 4 mags. Gen 5 mag baseplates don’t work. You can see a demo in my other video of what the issue is.
Lone wolf has one as well its a +3. It fits 3 more rounds on the 10 round magazine. I prefer them over the pearce ones since the pearce one its just a plus 2 and it makes the magazine rattle when loaded.
Hey thanks for that info! That is Interesting, since my Pearce ones do not rattle. The one that moves around the most out of these here is actually the SLR Rifleworks one. The only issue I have with the Lone Wolf one is that it is smooth with no texture, so it seems “cheap” looking when the Pearce ones only cost $2 more, also I like the little lip at the bottom of the Pearce ones that are designed to be gripped. Also the lone wolf one is listed as a +2 for G29/30, but you managed to fit in 3 extra rounds? Also I wonder if attaching a Pearce grip to an ETS mag would work better for you? I can try it and report back
@shootingscience it says +2 in the description but it fits 3 without applying force. Side by side with the pearce on its a little bit longer than the pearce. So i think that is why you can fit 3.
@ nice, that is some good info!
Does this look and feel unwieldy mounted on a high bore axis pistol such as the Sig P226? The pistol is already big so wondering if I should just jump in with a bigger window. Thanks!
@kungfupandas1 I mean, a small window might look funny on a huge pistol, I would totally get either the XL or the COMPDOT for the P226, I have a video coming on the COMPDOT but they are the same size as this XL. You might have an easier time getting away with a bigger window optic like this, so I wouldn’t hesitate to add one of these! For example, I have a 4” PDP compact and the XL looked too big on it, but on my Stoeger STR9F Combat, the XL looks pretty good. Which P226 model do you have?
@shootingscience legion p226. Does the XL have a tall housing? I didn't take the ST as small but it is smaller compared to the XL
@kungfupandas1 I suppose the ST isn’t small, but “normal size”. I measured it all though, and yes the XL has a bigger housing, at its widest part the XL is 1 and 3/8” wide, the rear part of the XL that bolts down to the pistol is 7/16” thick. The height of the XL is 1 and 3/8” tall. The ST is 1 and 3/16” wide, as well as 1 and 3/16” tall. The thick flat part in the back that bolts down to the pistol is 3/8” thick. So the XL is about 5mm taller and 5mm wider and the thick part in the back is about 2mm thicker than the ST’s. The P226 is 1.5” wide at its widest point, which would be the grips, so either optic will not be as wide as the pistols overall width but the ST might sit a bit more flush on the sides with the slide. Both optics are pretty lightweight so either one should not affect handling. If I had a p226 I would make a short for ya, but that info is the best I can do for now. Let me know if this helps, and which optic you choose! For deals I always Check out the vortex store on Amazon, as well as Scheels and Cabela’s. Right now the XL sized compdot is $199 at Scheels www.scheels.com/p/vortex-compdot-red-dot/875874-CMPDT-MRD5/?srsltid=AfmBOorMPNamMZcUZwSHln2UpA0XoBy4NfxTwWUKUv3ZLr5l4OSWfnY4
@@shootingscience I have the P226 Legion. Would you recommend that I exchange the ST (this is not the CCW version) for the XL?
@@kungfupandas1 yes I looked up the width for the P226 legion model, it’s 1.5” wide at the widest part at the grips and a little over an inch wide at the slide. either optic will not be as wide as the gun, but both will be wider than the slide.
That's a beautiful gun.
@@jackandroid8489 thank you Jack, will you be adding one to your collection?
The short answer is yes. It's a pricey gun but honestly well worth it considering it's size and decent amount of power.
@ yes it is pricey but it’s a full metal frame, it’ll break in nice and last a long time. Look for deals, I found this one for $440.
I had the original Tomcat 32 and I sold it. Now wanting to get the new model. I was disappointed at the thickness of the original, and of course the weight, hopefully I will like the new gun enough to carry in in my pocket. I WILL NOT get a threaded option with those big GIANT sights sticking up, this is a pocket pistol and I have no use for anything that increases the size
@@High-Tech-Redneck Yes sir, I hear you! I currently carry this thing in my pocket but you’re right about the high sights, they don’t mess with me too much but they do make it trickier to pull from a pocket holster. Luckily, the added length of the threaded barrel doesn’t get in the way for me so you should be good to go with the “Just in case” pistol.
Also, I forgot to mention, the frame of the 30x is 100% stronger than the 3032 tomcats so you will not have to worry about how many ft lbs the ammo has anymore (old tomcats had frames that would crack if using ammo with more than 129 ft lbs)

@stevowizzo9036 sorry to hear that, glad you made it! Also the Walther PPS M2 is perfectly legal to buy in all 50 states.
Have one and I like it but never ever carry it. Not enough capacity for my liking
I get that, capacity does make you feel a bit more comfortable, but according to my local police sheriff, there is a thing known as “the rule of three’s” as the average self defense encounter lasts 3 seconds, with 3 shots fired, at 3 yards. Even if there are multiple attackers, after 3 shots they all go running and once they are running away it is no longer legal to shoot them since you have successfully defended yourself by that point. This Walther is so thin, it is very Comfortable to conceal, and easy to bring another 8 round magazine with you too!

@ yep, it’s a great trigger. You will love them in both of those guns. Another thing I forgot to mention is they have extremely good quality control because they have only one Glock certified armorer building each trigger one at a time, which is pretty amazing considering the price of these triggers.
Hey man, actually, I think the triggers you need for those two pistols are similar to the one in my video. You will just need to deal with changing the extra pin for the locking block and swapping the spring in the back of the trigger bar on the rear housing.

@ Congratulations! Yes I normally pocket carry this one with the pocket holster I showed in my pocket holster video. I'm no expert on Beretta mouse guns- but,I have a .25 Bobcat and a Tomcat..both, especially the Tomcat seem finicky about Hollow Point ammo..I usually use only RN FMJ rounds and they run very well- I want to try out some Buffalo Bore brand in the .25- it has 60gr hard wash - that's the heaviest .25 ammo I can find available- most .25 ammo is 50gr

Just came home with the Defender Compdot. Vortex sales rep told me about it. Same as the XL, except it was originally sold with Jerry Miculek's revolver. I have the ST currently on my S&W. Can't wait for this to be mounted and start training with it! Great video!
Thank you! And congratulations on the new compdot! Why did you go with the compdot over the XL and will it replace your ST or will you mount it on a different pistol?
@ I got the Compdot online from Scheels for $199! It will sit on my S&W MP9, which currently has the ST mounted. If it wasn’t for the Vortex sales rep telling me about the Compdot and price, I would have never known. The only difference between the Compdot and the XL, they said, is the battery door. The XL has a retaining screw to prevent accidental opening.
That is an amazing deal, and it is still going on too, so I’ll order one in 8 MOA and compare it to the defender XL in a new video - thanks for the tip!
@ no problem. I got the 8 MOA as well. My slide is being milled for an optic cut, so I am left waiting. Not easy…
@ Haha, that’s a tough wait for sure. Which M&P 9mm model are you shooting?
Walter makes great pistols
Absolutely

They really do!

@@jimchambers7548 Excellent pistols I would say, they have been around a long time. Great Barrels, slides, and some of the best factory triggers. I bet the trigger on this one will break in nicely.
Love my PDP Pro Compact SD and my PDP F 3.5 inch
I want one of those PDP F 3.5” as well. I ended up adding a LokGrips brass magwell and backstrap to this PDP 4” model and I’ve been competing with it, it’s fantastic! I have not upgraded the trigger to the one in the Pro SD like you have, but I might later - that is the best trigger yet in a striker fired pistol! Enjoy!
Just got mine ran 125 rounds first range trip not a single hiccup ! I carry it in a blacksmith tactical iwb double ulti clip !
@@grimflipz ah, the beauty of Glock! What ammo did you run?
