    I always noticed in google maps how these suburbs are so distant from everything, I definitely wouldn't want to live in one.

    yes lets reprogram drivers to go the speed limit by spending billions of dollars to reconstruct roads instead of cheaper methods like speed traps and cameras because ticketing people who speed, breaking laws, is inhumane. These kinds of changes to the road system does not slow me down because I travel the speed limit already.

    Still laughing, that US can't handle roundabouts. This would solve everything.

      Roundabout would fail because the traffic volumes are greater than a roundabout's capacity, and the construction would cost more. The roundabout would not be efficient for places with such high traffic volumes. They max out at 1500 vehicles per hour for single lane roundabout (2200 for dual lanes). Roundabout interchanges are better for rural surburban locations where traffic is not projected to increase. A roundabout interchange (for this amountnof traffic) would also cost more because it would take more right-of-way outside of the prior interchange design. That would require more stormwater management facilities, as well as shoring / retaining walls due to encroaching into the slopes of the overpass highway.

    People choose to drive because they don’t enjoy being cramped in tight spaces with other people.

    Decrease speed means increase safety. That’s not true. There’s something in Germany that’s trumps that point. Increasing safety starts with driving 101 not speed. Many ppl wouldn’t speed if idiots weren’t driving just for self. Traffic is suppose to flow. It doesn’t hence aggressive, bad driver, etc.

    I remember seeing a guy on Road Guy Rob's channel talk about how adding lanes adds capacity where you don't need it.

  • @Snagabott
    @Snagabott 23 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    Your 100 lane road would be both expensive and land intensive, but it would be safe. Fatalities per mile traveled is higher on side roads than enclosed and grade separated highways. The added safety trumps the effect of speed.

    If you watch the road when there is lots of traffic. One thing starts to show up. If everyone wants to get there first, what traffic rules do they follow? People often forget how a road was designed to be used. In most large cities there are two lanes that are through lanes. The other four are for city traffic. One to enter and exit. And three to move forward. So why do people think that they will move faster if they move to the left fast? They don't. They stop traffic behind them. I have found that the lanes to the right are faster moving than the ones to the left because no one stays in them. Think about it next time you get in your car. Every crash is on the left side of the road not the right. Or at least it is in my city SLC.

    Sad to see the US is such an unoptimized country when it comes to traffic. Dump traffic lights, almost no roundabouts, basically no busses (with express lanes) or trains/trams/metros and cycling there is just asking to die early. It horrifies me that someone from the US can rent a car here in Europe, their driver license is a joke (which also doesn't help with traffic flow). I hope the US will look at countries like the Netherlands, Germany or other examples.
