    While the narrative is accurate, what they seem to forget is that the city's name was actually Thessaloniki since its establishment in 315 BC. The name didn't appear in 1912. On the other hand, the Turkish name of the Ottoman times was Selanik, while the Slavic name was Solun.

    To the question why is Ottoman history ignored in the context of Western history, Ottoman history is not part of Western history as it reflects none of its cultural elements. Ottoman history is an incursion to the development of Europe. The Ottomans were a player in the European stage only militarily as a threat.

    I think Mr.Naar is mistaken saying that intermarriages were illegal for Muslims in Ottoman Empire. It is a well-known fact that muslims in general have a right to marry Jewish and Christian women who are not obliged to convert into Islam in this case.

      I am aware of mixed marriages in Thessaloniki, in the 30s at least. But I believe he is right, as one of the wed-to-be had to change their religion.

    • @Fuad_Haciyev57
      @Fuad_Haciyev57 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tyxeri48 actually the changing of religion is not necessary in case a Jewish or Christian woman marries a Muslim. There is a term "Ahl Al -Kitab" that is used in Islamic Law or Sharia . It means "People of the Book" and is used for identification of Jews and Christians who have a Holy Book - Torah an Gospel. So the changing of religion for a Jewish or Christian woman who marries a Muslim is not obligatory under Sharia because they are "People of the Book".

So, your judgment is that anyone who questions the predominant orthodoxies is a… conspiracy theorist? So no, it’s crazy to challenge what we are seeing on the tabloids, on the evening news, reports coming from the CIA or the Kremlin… Anyone who does that is a conspiracy theorist? Thanks, I’m good.

    Kontrollerad opposition! Anslaget ställer jag upp på till hundra procent. Men vad säger dom sen...

    ipn.gov.pl/en/news/7057,Correcting-the-Picture-Some-Reflections-on-the-Use-of-Sources-in-quotNight-witho.html You should ask Grabowski why he avoid polish scholars' callings for debate over his "mistakes" in his books. Several hundred 'mistakes' in his last book as one of them have counted. Grabowski receives serious fact-manipulation charges from polish scholars, but he refuses to debate on this, instead is projecting his accusations, that this is polish gov system of suppressing Holocaust researchers. Only in his mind it is! Let's go with this article from polish press: *When a historian is afraid of grandma* by Wojciech Wybranowski *Lawsuits may prove to be the only effective method in the fight for historical truth against the authors of publications in which Poles are accused of complicity in the extermination of Jews by grossly distorting facts and manipulating archival documents. Why? Instead of a public, scientific debate and confrontation, historians critical of the findings of Prof. Jan Grabowski became the target of a campaign aimed at discrediting them.* The left-wing journalists' and scientists' lounge became quite heated after the District Court in Warsaw ordered Prof. Barbara Engelking and Prof. Jan Grabowski, the authors of the book "Dalej jest noc" ("Night without end"), to apologize to Filomena Leszczynska, an elderly woman whose relative: Edward Malinowski, village leader of Malinowa, was falsely accused by Grabowski and Engelking of complicity in the extermination of Jews. There was a great uproar and a "rapey retaliation" because "Granny Filomena" and her attorneys decided to enter effectively into a court dispute, instead of - as it was not uncommon in our country until now - meekly and silently bearing times and challenges from Hitler's collaborators, anti-Semites and Jew-eaters. "The courtroom is not the place to establish historical truth". - "Gazeta Wyborcza" thundered hysterically, while a group of scientists from the Polish Academy of Sciences wrote that "freedom of scientific research is the foundation of the practice of history". An eloquent Twitter post was made by Bix Aliu, an American diplomat working at the US embassy in Warsaw, who asserted that "protecting academic freedom is crucial for democracy. Open academic debate on difficult issues is the path to resolving historical disputes" and arguing that the United States will always stand up for academic freedom. This is amusing in the light of what is happening in the United States and how much leftists dressed as democrats are trying to restrict freedom of speech, including in universities, there. However, the entry by the American diplomat - paradoxically, contrary to his intentions - is of enormous significance. For today, as has been the case for a long time, Prof Grabowski and his internationalist apologists are making efforts to prevent discussion of the errors made by him and Prof Engelking in their works accusing Poles of complicity in the Holocaust, while the authors of scientific studies exposing historical falsifications of the pair of authors are trying to slander and defame them. *A historian at war. Against freedom of speech.* We do not have to search long for examples of Prof. Grabowski and Prof. Engelking, the authors of the book "Dalej jest noc" ("Night without End"), running away from a scientific debate and confronting the results of scientific research of other historians that are critical for their work. A dozen or so months ago, a historian of the Institute of National Remembrance - Dr Tomasz Domański, in a publication issued by the Institute of National Remembrance entitled "Korekta obrazu?(...)", based on an extensive search of archives and analysis of source materials, pointed out to the authors of "Dalej jest noc" a number of inaccuracies and misrepresentations - showing in a blunt manner in which they missed the facts, omitted historical sources that did not match their thesis, or even manipulated them. There was no debate between the two scholars. Neither Grabowski nor Engelking decided to face Domański in an open, televised public discussion and to confront - as befits researchers - their mutual findings and facts. Instead, Grabowski again adopted a line of defence based on emotions and depreciation of the historian critical of him. And so he thundered on the friendly portal Jewish.pl that, "Defaming Domański would bring him to court. If Poland were a normal country. (...) Poland is no longer a normal country for Holocaust researchers". Grabowski did not like, for example, Domański's works being made public in the Warsaw Ghetto Museum. One can presume that the reason for the historian's nervousness was the risk that scholars from EU countries or the United States visiting the Warsaw Ghetto Museum would become acquainted with a critical review of his "findings" and perhaps also want to verify them. "The Warsaw Ghetto Museum is no longer a normal museum - with the arrival of Dr Domanski as an 'expert' it has become part of a nationalist offensive on the history of the Holocaust," announced the co-author of 'Night without End'. Dr. Piotr Gontarczyk also took a swipe at Domański, who, based on historical archives, verified the veracity of several of Prof. Grabowski's claims in "Night without End" and concluded that the guy was simply... lying. For example, on the alleged involvement of Polish Blue Policemen in the extermination of Jews in Bochnia and their delivery into German hands, which Grabowski claimed was done by Polish officers. In reality, as Gontarczyk, who also researched German documents, discovered, Jews were not persecuted by Polish policemen but by officers of the Jewish Order Service. When Dr Gontarczyk described this "mistake" of Grabowski's, and his findings found their way into the Israeli press, he was immediately attacked by Grabowski and accused of being a "strident Polish nationalist". This epithet was meant to discredit the historian, critical of Grabowski, and to shut down any discussion of what really happened and how Grabowski and Engelking were wrong in their work. And since I mentioned the left-wing international of Grabowski's apologists, defending him against the facts and trying to prevent discussion around his findings, here's one more example (though many more could be mentioned). In 2018, the Institute of National Remembrance planned to organize, together with the Polish embassy in Canada, the presentation of an exhibition at the University of Ottawa: "Poles rescuing Jews". Prof. Grabowski, who was teaching there, reacted. He called on his students to oppose the organisation of the exhibition and the holding of lectures on its subject; he also sent a letter to the dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ottawa, arguing that the authors of the exhibition on Poles rescuing Jews are engaged in "distorting historical awareness". Jeffrey Cymbler, a descendant of Polish Jews who survived the Holocaust, who was involved in the Polish project, was also slapped by Grabowski on social media, who tried to persecute him by labelling him a man who "supports Polish nationalists". 1/2

      2/2 *What is Professor Grabowski afraid of?* In Poland, there is a conviction that if someone deals with the history of the Holocaust, it means that he hates Poles," said a few days ago Jan Grabowski, a historian, in an online interview for the Newsweek weekly. He argued that he had become the target of attacks and vilification by the Polish authorities and institutions connected with them. This is already a standard reaction of historians to attempts to undermine their findings and point out their technical errors Instead of publishing an apology, as demanded by internet users who took part in the Grabowski campaign on Twitter: #PrzeprosBabcie (#saysorrytograndma) we are dealing with the predictable narrative of Professor Grabowski himself. A familiar narrative, because it has been repeated for years, a narrative which has nothing in common with a historical debate - moreover, it constitutes a strong escape from such a scientific discussion and represses the interlocutors. It is also a play on the emotions of supporters and "followers" that allows Grabowski to create himself as a "victim of persecution". After all, one does not enter into discussions with persecutors, does one? In this way, Grabowski skilfully avoids any discussion with historians who have shown him to be historically dishonest in their works, and escapes the necessity to face hard historical facts and evidence. Thus, all his "historical" rhetoric remains solely in the sphere of heated emotions, and there is no place for a cool analysis of facts and events. This is what Prof. Grabowski seems to be most afraid of. Sure, in interviews with the media, Prof. Grabowski argues that it is about freedom of scientific research and his reputation. However, he has a serious problem with this among internationally recognised historians. For example, Professor Bogdan Musiał, a Polish-German historian specialising in the history of Poland, Russia and Germany, the author of the ground-breaking work entitled 'Kto dopomoże Żydowi' (Who will help the Jew) analysing the German legislation concerning Jews in Polish lands, said in an interview with me (published in Do Rzeczy), "I myself, while researching the persecutions of the Jewish population, discovered manipulations in his (Professor Grabowski's) publications. At first, I naively thought that it was possible to argue with him in this matter. But it turned out that he made lying a method and that there was no point in discussing it with him. His books are worth as much as the paper they are printed on. *Grabowski's myth of 200,000 Jews* Distorting facts, bending them to fit the thesis, making hypotheses that have no justification in archives, witnesses' recollections and evidence have indeed become an important element of Prof. Grabowski's 'scientific works'. A few days ago, in an Internet conversation for Tomasz Lis, the editor-in-chief of the Newsweek weekly, Prof. Grabowski repeated his thesis, discredited two years ago, about the alleged 200,000 Jews, most of them refugees from German ghettos, murdered or given away by Poles into German hands. Only that these figures have been sussed out and Prof. Grabowski is unable to support them with any calculations. So where did this number come from? Well, in 2018, The Times of Israel magazine published an article by Amanda Borschel-Dan; the author - citing alleged findings by Szymon Datner, a Polish historian of Jewish origin - argued in it that some 200,000 Jews - escapees from German camps - were later murdered or delivered into German hands by Poles. When the matter caused an uproar, Jakub Kumoch, the Polish ambassador (then in Switzerland, now in Turkey), took it up and analysed Datner's work. He pointed out in social media that none of the articles by the famous historian, none of his publications, contain such data. Moreover, Datner claimed that at least half of these refugees could have been saved only thanks to Polish help. In this situation, Ambassador Kumoch contacted the author of the sensational publication "The Times of Israel", Amanda Borschel-Dan, who officially informed him that in fact she had never read Danter's publication because she does not speak Polish, and that she had received such data and calculations from... Professor Jan Grabowski. Jakub Kumoch, by the way, also checked the data and sources which Grabowski was supposed to have given to the journalist and it soon turned out that the historian used the data freely, mixed and distorted them, making free use of witnesses' quotations in order to expand his version about 200,000 Jewish victims of alleged Polish anti-Semitism. To be honest Prof. Grabowski has to admit that creating the myth of '200 thousand victims' was not very creative and one can presume that he copied the earlier narration of Tomasz Gross, the author of the book 'Golden Harvest'. Gross argued in 2010 that Poles murdered 200,000 Jews during the war. He never presented any evidence, any calculations that would confirm it. "It is all the same whether I write that Poles murdered 100, 200 or several dozen thousand Jews. Both mean a lot,' Gross uncritically announced in an interview for daily 'Polska The Times' in March 2011. Since then this number functions in the publications and interviews of left-wing historians defining themselves as 'researchers of the Holocaust', evolving also according to the needs and shaping between 120 and 250 thousand victims. One thing these estimates have in common is that none of their authors has ever provided evidence or calculations to prove their veracity. Professor Jan Grabowski has also failed to do so, hence he runs away - far into the night - from debate, discussion and verification of facts. And his lies? Unfortunately they continue to live their own lives.

      Grabowski lies again, so it over and over - 09:30. "Polish Antidefamation League" www.anti-defamation.org isn't sponsored by Polish state. It's a foundation and financially sustainable only from ordinary and private people donations.
