Digitalisation and Capitalism: Two Peas in the Same Pod with Dr. Ruth Castel-Branco
In this episode, we explore how digitalisation and the technology industry are tied to structural power inequalities such as neoliberal capitalism, colonialism, imperialism, among others.
We focus on the extent to which platforms have challenged or reconfigured existing modes of capital accumulation and interrogate platformisation’s impact on wealth inequalities and on culturally situated understandings as well as legal codings of ownership and property.
We unpack questions such as how digitalisation is shaped by capitalism and how digitalisation is shaping capitalism; concepts such as digital capitalism, surveillance capitalism, data colonialism, and how all this has impacted labour market relations.
