A Wild and Scenic Gila River for All
มุมมอง 1946 ปีที่แล้ว
NMWF strongly believes the Gila is an exemplary candidate for Wild & Scenic designation, as it is one of the nation’s last wild and free-flowing rivers in the Southwest, with no large dams to impede the natural flow of waters. The Gila is also where Aldo Leopold, NMWF’s founder, helped convince the U.S. Forest Service to protect the headwaters of this unique New Mexican treasure, leading to the...

    This makes me sick, allowing hunters . Why call it a preserve? Don't hunters have access to so much of the land already? Yes they do.

    The only "public" the federal government holds these lands in "trust" for are elitists like your organization represents! The Feds couldn’t even be bothered to leave historical roads open let alone maintained.

    You know I’m usually don’t give a flip when it comes to animals, I don’t hunt but I do fish. I have to agree, kill the damn thing first. No, don’t let it suffocate on the shore just knock it with any sort of instrument. You run such a higher risk of cutting yourself when it’s flapping all about. Truthfully I think that’s why he did such a piss poor job. I know he knows what he’s doing but that’s pretty much fishing 101.

  • @CRJines
    @CRJines ปีที่แล้ว

    One of the things that I like about the federal government controlling public lands, is it the laws or universal wherever I go. I can stay 14 days on any BLM land in the country. If the states have control, they'll be so many different laws will be hard to keep up with

    People use population management to justify elk hunting when the elk population is 1/10 of what it used to be. There's nothing good about it. If you worked on bringing back native predatorial species back then they're populations would be naturally balanced without you asses.

    how about dry river beds?

    • @jessedeubel4515
      @jessedeubel4515 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We'll have more guidance after the NM Supreme Court issues their full opinion explaining the ruling. My assumption is that dry river beds will not be treated the same as flowing streams and rivers. The basis for public access to rivers and streams is that the pubic has a right to recreate in the water. I think a test of reasonability would suggest that if there is no water then that public access component does not apply. There may end up being exceptions, like perhaps a waterway that has water in most segments, but has short dry sections that need to be crossed to access the next pool or flowing segment? In short, right now we just don't know but this is one of the nuances that will have to be addressed in the near future.

    Cattle do not belong there at all! They are not native to North America, wild equines are. I saw zero wild horses or burros and killing animals is not a sport, it's just a grotesque primitive, disgusting action that needs to die off. So much for enjoying the beautiful place, everything the feds are involved in stinks!!!

      The state makes a lot of money selling elk tags and is a lot more controllable than releasing wolves to control population combine that with the fact the land is also used for cattle grazing and the ranchers won't tolerate their livestock being hunted

    My father patrolled on graveyard shift for years. He was used to seeing the occasional feral burro, so he wasn't sure what he was looking at the first time an elk showed up in his headlights in the West Jemez drive to the Valle Grande.
