Arcteryx DIY repair after warranty expires
มุมมอง 19K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Due to warranty expiration i repaired my Arcteryx Alpha SV men's jacket with a 3 dollar waterproof tenacious tape. Her is an easy DIY fix which will last you a long time considering the time, effort and money you put in. Materials used: Gorilla glue and "seam Sealing Tape for Waterproof PU Coated Fabric". I bought mine on amazon.com. I paid 3 Us dollars for the 20 meters of this 20 mm width tap...
Polish lavvu and kni-co stove first testing
มุมมอง 2.6K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Join me on my first test of the popular polish lavvu and the small hot tent stove Alaskan jr from Kni-co. This trip shows a small winter storm burst hitting down on my tent. I also experience carbon monoxide build up in the stove. This is why you should always test your gear before undergoing long trips. Also a very good reason to buy a carbon monoxide detector. Gear: Lavvu: Polish lavu, size 1...
Ropelighter (shiplighter) for bushcraft and survival
มุมมอง 2.6K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Rope lighter, also called shiplighter and trenchlighter put to the test in the woods. A good and traditional method to start a fire without matches. Windproof, light weight. made of a renewable material which chars easily. A great addition to your fire or survival kit because of its long-term storage capabilities. Whats not to like. Music: Dan Henig, Wood.
Thanks, for posting. Great solution and will try this on my jacket.
Thank you, my pleasure DrCReich. Hope it works out for you👍🏻
Great video. For how much Arc are they ought to hold up longer. So far, Arc has replaced a Courier 15 bag with seam issue, my Alpha FL has fail taped seam around the hood/neck area. My cerium (2023 model) has one baffle around left bicep that’s missing all it’s down…..
Thnx. The fix still holds several years later, even though it is not often i use the jacket anymore. Yeah for the price it should be a looong seam guarantee🙂 Great shell on these jacket so hopefully the seam has gotten better? Have you talked to Arc about the baffle?
@@bushtweak747 yes. They gave a full credit of MSRP. I bought it when they had the annual 20 percent off 1 full price item so I made out good😂.
@@pittwm Congratz on good deal and great customer service from Arcteryx👍🏻
Amazing fix!
nice first video mate, new sub from Australia. The rope/sailors/shepherds/trench lighter is a fantastic bushcraft tool and one I am a big fan of. I nitrate mine, turning the cotton wicks of the rope lighter into slowmatches. Like all of these types of slowmatches, the lack of an open flame is their only weakness and their greatest advantage.
Thanks mate, appreciate the kind comment. Nitrate the wick, cool, must look into that👍🏻 Always nice to learn new hacks. Have a great day. ATB Ben.
@@bushtweak747 Hi Ben, potassium nitrate is available here in Australia as stump remover I use it to nitrate all manner of tinders and I have many videos of nitrated tinders on my channel.
@@waveman0 Thnx, then i have some videos to watch later on👏🏻 Great stuff. Subbed👍🏻 Have you been lookin into friction fires? Not the traditional spindle and board but other ways with maybe bigger surface.
@@bushtweak747 I suck at friction fires and do not dabble in them, my focus is percussion fire making, and flint and steel is my passion. I probably have 800 videos dedicated to flint and steel.
@@waveman0 Hehe friction fires is a hassle, thats for sure. How accessible is flint in your region? I like ferrorods but should absolutely practice more on flint and stone.
Great Video Content

Sorta
@@henryorr5743 Yes I shoulda qualified that statement, "as long as you haven't trashed it"
@@AddyAshton there is also a little bit of an age limit. I took in my 15 year old beta lt yesterday to have the seams around all the elastic repaired as the glue had begun to peel. They said that because they may not be able to repair it to their standards they would not work on it at all. They did offer me a big discount code tho so that’s cool ig
in the snow with a canvas tent do you really need a spark arrester?
I have the same jacket. Thanks for the video.
Youre welcome. Have a nice day and good luck with the jacket.
Thanks for the video! It is so helpful. Can other glue be used (eg UHU glue) if Gorilla glue is not available?
Thank you for the kind words. Unsure about other glue types. But as long as the glue is somewhat flexible it should be good👍🏻
@@bushtweak747 Thank you for taking the time to reply! I will try and share the result with you too :)
im sorry, but you ruined it even further. A local seamstress would be able to sew it back and would last longer than any glue/adhesive would.
I’m not sure if I agree…there’s a reason the manufacturer uses glues. Im been asking my tech clothing seamstress about his fixing with glues but he doesn’t want to take on the challenge.
making needle holes in the gore-tex membrane would be an issue.
I disagree. I have the same issue on my jacket. I have tried to sew it back together, but it doesn't last. This is a great solution that he as posted.
Thank you, I have the same tape, you give me hope!
Good job! I too had some seam seal failure on cuffs and hem area. I trimmed the fraying threads and melted the ends with a lighter to keep them tight and never fray again. Then I used Gearaid brand Seam Grip + WP Sealant AND Adhesive. It is a brush on glue + flexible sealant that goes between and over the layers to bee repaired. It dries clear and remains flexible and lasts forever. I'm not sure how flexible gorilla glue remains, or how many washes it can stand? The Seam Grip replaces the tape you used , and was easier to brush on and let dry. I also used a roll of paper towel stuffed in the sleeve, that was round enough to keep the sleeve cuff tight and flat for brushing on.
Thank you! I’ll look into the brands for sealant and adhesive. Gorilla glue is good, but the fix held for a year before i had to fix it again. The pro is its cheap and quick. The cons: not as flexible and durable. Good tips about the sleeve too. Thanks for the feedback and good tips🙂
What sort of glue and tape do you use? And what temp with the iron? Your instruction is very usefull. I have the same jacket with the same issues. Thans so much
Hi. Sry for late reply. Work work:) I bought a «seam sealing tape for waterprofing fabrics» Bought a 20 meter roll on amazon at the time. Probably find it on other platforms as well. I think it cost me around 3 US dollar. For glue i used gorilla glue. I have no temperature display but i have it on 75% of max heat. Thank you for viewing the video.
Thank you! Have a couple Arcteryx products where the seams have separated. Will use this technique.
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Good luck and have a nice day🙂
Rope lighters are great and virtually forgotten in the new wave of survival videos, etc. A suggestion, the birds nest was a little too compressed and air couldn't get in as well as it ought to. Try loosening it up some. Rope lighting is very versatile if you learn the different materials and how much fire you need on the end of your rope. Just a tight ball lights cigarettes just fine. :)
Absolutely a very cool item to bring in the firekit. I like it and will practice more with it. There are so many great tinders in the outdoors i want to learn to master. Thank you Boomer for watching and your feedback. Hope all is well in this pandemic times👍🏻
Great fix, you are good!👍👍
Thank you, nice of you to take the time to comment👍🏻
@@bushtweak747 The pleasure is all mine my friend!
Amazing winter video. What camera do you use? It has very high quality night shooting!
Thank you. Planning for a lot more videos by the end of the year🎉 I use a Sony A6400 with a sigma 16mm f/1,4. and gopro 8 black inside the tent🙂
I absolutely love my lavvu 👍 great video 👍 its made me want to take my one out now haha
That was a great fix. Thanks for sharing 👍
How is your experience with condensation (if any) with that tent. Close call with the stove. A good reason to always have a fire guard (if you are sharing the tent with others) or having a carbon monoxide detector/alarm.
Great and sturdy cotton tent. Condensation is no issue as long as you have a heating source. I have never tried a cotton tent without a stove or primus for more than a day. If they are not waterproofed before use it gets heavy😂 There are only upsides with cotton tent except one big thing, WEIGHT.. That’s why i like this kind of lavvu, it is small, easy to heat and breathes well. Yeah carbon m is a sneaky one. From that experience i learned to always use a carbon m detector and ventilate a lot more. Have used the stove after removing the spark arrestor and no problems. Sleeping with the stove on is also a no go in my book.
Nice ride 😂👍
Nice work 👍

Thanks for the video. I have a similar problem. What is the tape you used in the repair?
Hugh Cecil Seam «seam sealing tape for waterproofing PU fabrics». Bought a roll with 20 meters on amazon for around 3 dollars at the time. Thanks for watching
Nice video!!!🌲👍
Great set up and what a nice little stove. You really need to keep making more videos. You do very well with them
Kathys Outdoor Adventures Thanks alot. I will when i get the time( or make the time🙂) Atb.
Great fix! I have a jacket I need to fix but just put tape over it for now. I just found your channel and looking forward to seeing more.
Kathys Outdoor Adventures Thank you. Very kind words!
You fixed that well. And it's not expensive either. Thank you for showing me. Nice Video. Sub and greetings Marco & Racoon
Ritera Racoon Outdoor Thank you so much. Always fun to help eachother out with quick fixes. All the best to you Marco and Racoon. Hope to see more of the great German forest in the future.
I plan on doing this too but with the Trekker model. Can I ask why did you pick the Alaska Jr model? Also how is this combo working now? Thank you 🙏 I just subscribed
Super Dave Hi Dave and thank you for the sub, appreciate it alot👍🏻 I bought it unseen 6 or 7 years ago. At that time i figured it would fit my polish lavvu and my bigger «Helsport Finnmark» lavvu i had at the time. I planned on having a system i could carry around all year in my backpack. I see now that my alaskan jr is best for wintertime use when i can use a sled because of the weight. Last trip with camera gear, tent, alaskan jr, food, water and camping gear the total weight got up to 75-80 pounds. Will be posting a new video with some small modifications to the stove in the next few days:) The trekker i believe is a bit lighter than the alaskan jr? That would be a good thing if you are planning on carrying it for distances and for room inside the tent.
Very nice! I just got a kni co trekker to use in my lavuu, they are good little stoves
Folk Raven-Bear Thank you! Was looking into a trekker for my bigger nylon lavvu, but new import taxes in our country has put a lid on that for now😂
@@bushtweak747 that sucks. So far I have only used the stove once and not inside the lavuu but even just sitting outside it gave off a good deal of heat
It will not fail you in a lavvu, thats for sure. I’ve made som modifications to my stove which will be featured in the upcoming video. Just waiting for some time off to get filming😂 Let me know how your stove fares and please post a video if you are going camping. Always nice to share our experiences🎉 Atb.
I'm a new Subscriber from Northern Ontario Canada. I hope to see lots of your ideas come out on the screen. I enjoyed your video keep them coming. Cheers!
Daniel Charbonneau Thanks alot for your kind words. Appreciate your comments, and toubtsking the time to watch. Glad you liked it. I’ll keep em coming🙂. How is winter up in Canada? We are experiencing record high temperatures with zero snow.
@@bushtweak747 In Northern Ontario we are experiencing warmer then normal weather, temp so far the average has been maybe -12c to -15c at night and on some days we get temps of +4c to -20c in a 24 hour period, we should be getting a average temp of -15c to -25c daily. It's crazy weather out here. I think the cold will hit us hard in February. As for snow fall where I'm at it's low for this time of year, no real snow storms yet. On the ground at this time is about 50cm which is very low for us for mid January. I'm not complaining! Lets not wake up the Winter Gods. LOL.
@@danielcharbonneau222 -12c to -15c at night sounds perfect for camping:) -25c would be fun to test hot tenting in the lavvu:) 50 cm is low? Wow, what is alot then?:) How much is the most snow you've experienced? I too hope february will be better. Hehe i understand you are happy with the amount of snow as is. Here we can start moving the lawn if the temperature rise keeps up:)
Best of luck with your channel!
The spark arrestors on Knico stoves are famous for plugging up, unless you need it by law in your area I suggest not using it at all... Knico has a “stack robber” now that acts as a spark arrestor and it sits much lower in the chimney pipe so it stays much hotter and cleaner... I use the full size Alaskan in my 9x11.5’ Snowtrekker and it is very warm in my tent, that Alaskan Jr in a Lavvu must be much more than needed... but no doubt will need less reloading than the smaller stoves I see in Lavvu videos 👍
Puskwaska Outdoors Thnx for your comment! I have heard that about the spark arrestors from Knico🙂 We have no need for it by law in snow rich winter atleast. Think i will cut away the spark arrestor plate on the top hat to begin with. Must definetively look into the stack robber for fall use. I think it will be to much for this tent as is. Will have to do another run at it🙂 When i get my size three (which i plan to modify) i hope that it will be a better fit. Been wanting to get my hands on a Snowtrekker for a while but have to wait if i want to stay married😂
Excellent set up! I’d cut a few of those metal pieces out on that spark arrester, open it up just a little more.
I'll try that, why not start with a simple solution:) Thx for the tip! Btw great comparison video you made on the lavvu sizes in march!

Hi, very awesome video, we love all the nature captures!
Dude, I love buschrafting! I'm totally in to it, although I don't get to do it as much these days. :-) I've got that same exact fire straw. What knife do you use? I use a Tuckamore S.O.B. most of the time. Great audio on your video! Very cool lighter too.
Thanks alot! Hope to see you in one of your cars out in nature, would be cool! The fire straw is excellent, will prevent many burned eyebrows;) I use a Mora bushcraft black for now, its a workhorse:) Tuckamore S.O.B looks very nice, one day ill look into a custom knife. Yeah the lighter is a good addition to a fire kit.
Really cool video man. This is such a great idea. Back to nature.
Coach Ron Lyons Thank you for your kind comment👍🏻
Loved this video!
Everything Church Pro Thank you!
Cool Bent! Have seen this method earlier, but not tried this one myself. When I have seen this in use, they have transfered the ember from the rope to a piece of chaga, charcloth or any other thing that takes an ember. First time I have seen it got into flame Just from the rope. 💪 Odd
Thanks Odd! Its a cool addition to a fire kit. That's a excellent idea to save resources. It would be even more efficient to transfer the ember to a piece of chaga. The cotton rope is not nearly as dense as chaga and burns much faster.
