HOWB 114 – Interview the Expert | Russell Brown on Marine Epoxy - 12.05.13
This episode is an interview with Russell Brown on the ins and outs of marine epoxy - which most boat builders will use at some point in time. I drilled Russell with a plethora of questions that have come to my mind since I began using marine epoxy in the early 1990s.
Russell and I had a great time discussing the gory details of how epoxy works, the best way to use it, and why it is probably the best “glue” available for the marine environment.
You can listen to a previous interview with Russell and Ashlyn Brown about their personal/boating history at HOWB102.

    Nice to see your podcast, but I wish folks could actually see Corey's work. He is a trusted friend plus offers a beautiful handling of his craft. Great place to take a class and carry away an exceptionally light, strong watercraft fitted to the student.

    Excellent video. Just getting ready to start fillets on my 18' Simmons Sea Skiff motor well. I'm curious about the wood fillet tools and stir stick and the de natured alcohol. Does soaking the stick prevent sticking? It looks like you are able to reuse all of them, but I can't even seem to keep the purpose made plastic sticks clean fro more then a few uses.

    • @WoodenBoatDan
      @WoodenBoatDan 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you like it David! Soaking the fillet tool (stick) does not prevent the epoxy from sticking. The trick is to clean your fillet tools immediately after use, and use denatured alcohol is needed. With the wood fillet tools, you can resand them again and again to keep a clean edge. Best, Dan

    Thanks Dan, very informative. I use the wife's cake making supplies also. One thing I might ad though, get a longer piece of PVC pipe to use as your roller to push the mix down the bag. They can also make good fillet tools as well. Cheers for the video, Nick.
