    Kelly O doesn't have much left in the tank. So, since Kelly is a fit, it is not the right timing. If Jacob is not a fit with the system, then you need to rework the system. It is clear you can't win the bulk of the games without Jacob.

    Hey Keynon, when I first came across your content, I really didn’t like it, it seemed too critical with panache of “I know better” but the more I think about it, I realize that there was a few ball drop moments from the front office. the franchise has just enough to be successful in the future but from here on it there are too many tough decisions that need to be made and they have to bat perfectly.

      @@blaqhawk2k918 so several things had to come together at the time to make that happen. Guys who played in the same draft class... guys willing to take a little less. and a team willing to cobble together that much cap space. Teams build differently now. Will it happen? It could but not this specific year. That is likely to happen after the next CBA gets negotiated around 2027/2028. This is why I would keep an eye out on those in Barnes draft class who may be willing to take max money on less term to have more freedom. They could go from making 30-40 mill one year and then get a 10million bump... This year though is not likely. Again the CBA was negotiated in such a way to provide more obstacles against that and the current cap environment is weird. That said, is it plausible, yes. I wouldn't be hyper focused on that this year. The best way to build a super team right now is to go the way of OKC and then be willing to actually pay everyone.

    Brown for Wiggins straight up. Buy low on Wiggins and reap the rewards when he returns to form playing in his hometown where he can be with his father which is the reason he has been taking leaves from GS the past 2 seasons. Wiggins would be the Raptors best all around defender and allow SB to roam on defense. Starters: Poeltl, Barnes, Wiggins, RJ, IQ. Bench: Olynyk, Boucher, GTJ, Dick, Agbaji, JFL, McDaniels, #19 (Ware? Edey?), #31 (Jaylon Tyson?). Sign a f/a pg like Monte Morris or CoJo.

    Blake talked about how the Raptors have to exercise Brown's team option before trading him. I've been hearing about this "rule" recently, so I actually read the CBA. I can't find any rule that says if Brown is traded prior to June 30, the new team can't decline his player option, or that the Raptors can't trade him unless they exercise the option first. I did, however, find that if the Raptors do exercise his player option, the new team can't then decline it. They can't undo it, even if it is before June 30. Once a team exercises it, it can't be undone by the original team or the new team. I'm really curious where people are getting this notion that Raptors must exercise his option to trade him from. Can anyone reference the actual rule?

      @aquamarine99911 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm too lazy to look it up, but I remember when they changed the rule about 4 or 5 years ago. Teams used to be able to trade a non-guaranteed player before July 1, and the other team would have the option of waiving them for the following season - thereby instantly creating cap space or reducing their tax load. But too many teams took advantage of this, and the CBA was changed to make salary matching possible on a deal between teams only if all unguaranteed traded players were guaranteed for the following year. It may be hard to discern from the arcane language of the CBA, but I assure you it's there. And if Blake says it's there, then you can be damn sure it's there. Bottom line, before July 1 Brown can only be traded to a team over the cap for matching salaries AFTER his second year has been picked up by the Raptors.

    Great show as always, and a special guest in Blake. Nice to listen to chats between the most knowledgeable Raps analysts. I agree with Blake that the Raps really need to build up their asset pool of players. The Raps also need to be high in the lottery to get one, or 2 more elite prospects. Acquiring a Monk will give us an asset, but will lower our chances of getting a high lottery pick. The Raps must be smart, and both tank, and increase long term assets. They way they can do that is by trading an established experienced stable player like Poeltl, for a younger inexperienced player to develop, or something that brings us more draft picks.

Would he help on defence? Yes. But offensively if he pushes it he will break down and is limited to his ability to help. After two contracts and nearly 8 years in the NBA he was still one of the worst isolation drive guys in the NBA YET he wants to play that way. Sometimes its good to move on and let the ex go. Y'all broke up for a reason. But on top of that you lose all your depth to get a guy who is injury prone when you need all the health you can get already. I genuinely do not believe it makes a lot of sense to do this for OG or frankly for any free agent who is available THIS year. Although in literally one year there are way better free agents. many who are younger and less injury prone.

    Definitely agree with Kenyon. 2025 is a great draft, and after losing our lottery pick this year the Raptors cannot forego a chance to be in on it. We can't build towards contender status without bringing in more cost controlled young talent, ideally an absolute stud to pair with Scottie. At this point, RJ and IQ don't play defence well enough to pencil in as starters on a contending team. The hybrid strategy may be to start the year a full throttle, then trade Jak at the deadline to fall down to #7 or so in the lottery. The Raps cannot win without a legit C, and starting Olynyk at C has proven to be a surefire way to lose basketball games. (lol)

    • @IceManLikeGervin
      @IceManLikeGervin 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The Raps won one NBA title in their entire existence and now contender status is the goal? Sac, Utah, Char, Ind, Atl, Orl, Phx, LAC, Minny, NJ have never won a NBA title and have been in the NBA longer than Toronto. I think getting back to the team from 2013-2018 is the goal- a consistent playoff team and top 6 East team. Both RJ and IQ were rotation guys on a playoff teams in NY. RJ was a starter in NY and average 20.2 ppg in 2021-22 and 19.6 ppg in 2022-23. Yes, let's trade Poeltl after going 2-3 years without a quality starting center. Let's tank when the NBA doesn't reward tanking teams in the draft Lottery. Let's just become Detroit North and alienate SB, IQ and RJ so that they force their collective way out of Toronto.

    • @BasketballRewind
      @BasketballRewind 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You really have two options and I may make a video on this. Either you have one top 5 center or you split the cost of a top 5 center into two really solid centers like we did in the champion ship and you do it via depth. I think I agree with the hybrid idea. You don't go into the year saying we will lose but naturally allow nature to take its course.

IQ rotation guy but was a bench guard. I believe both are solid starters but flawed because we can't defend. Will they improve? Yes, however, many other teams have young players who are getting better as well. We dont have to tank by ripping it down to the studs either .. just dont meaningfully make the team better.

      @@IceManLikeGervin 2016? Raptors went to the ECF. That's "contender status". 2018? Raptors were the top team in the East and swept the top team in the West (Rockets) in their season series. That's "contender status". Yes, that's what we all want to get back to. But it took some great drafts to get to that point, culminating in acquiring OG in 2017 when he miraculously dropped out of the lottery because of his ACL injury. The question is whether the Raptors have enough elite talent to get back to contender status. I'd love it if IQ and RJ become all-star/all-NBA quality players. If they do this season - fine, we'll be top 6 in the East. If not, then let's get as many lottery tickets in the loaded 2025 draft as possible. And then start the winning in earnest. I'm quite sure Scottie is on board with the plan. His big kiss on Gradey's forehead signified that he sees the bright future of this team. The last thing we want to be is the 2005-2010 Cavaliers, with Lebron dragging them to the playoffs every year only to lose to deeper teams.

      This is a very intelligent channel. Part of intelligence is critical thinking. A very very big difference between critical thinking, and negativity. I am not sure that you are clear about the definition of both those words, because I don't see negativity on this show, just high IQ, intelligent breakdowns. There are many dumb (so called positive) shows. Every year they bore us with delusional casual interpretations of players potential. This show is intelligent, and I don't want it to be either positive, or negative, ... I prefer honesty, over delusions. Kenyon, Beyond, & Tim, are very intelligent educated people. When you talk about philosophy, I am sure they have read the philosophies of the greats like Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Neitzsche, Kant, etc ... . I don't think the intelligent followers of this very insightful interesting show, want it ruined by following a kiddy philosophy about a positive thinking train.

      I think there are a lot of ppl who admitted to me that they didn't watch the entirety of the season yet remain optimistic. My thought is this. Next season I am not expecting us to be world beaters or be good frankly however the long term future is good. IF the front office does the right things you stand to have back to back drafts in the next two years that will effectively set up the core of your future with Barnes to be a really good team. Assuming they dont try to rush being good. Want to be a young team like OKC with "shai". Well sometimes you have to go through tough times. I think we are going through tough times. I do consider any and every comment positive and negative. This one is a bit more constructive than some of your previous ones. I do genuinely consider all comments although I will not be dishonest about the product on court. I will perhaps do a better job of conveying the message that the long term future is bright, which is what I have been trying to tell ppl. Again you have Barnes who is a core piece. Gradey who is growing and you have control of your future. That is the important thing that I focus on but perhaps it has been muddled. HOWEVER, I will not just sell ppl on being a top 6 team and that suddenly everyone will grow exponentially and it will be puppies and kittens. Either way noted and thank you for the comments.

      @BasketballRewind 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I assume you are talking about the Poeltl deal? It has to be mentioned because we literally did convey the pick. We also have not conveyed the second rounder yet so not sure what you want one to do. The Spurs liked Dalano but we held him back from a deal so we gave the 2nd instead.

    • @Matt-ul2rf

    • @BasketballRewind
      @BasketballRewind 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Matt-ul2rf We added two second round picks NOT only because we added khem birch but also because we refused to add Dalano. Adding Dalano could have held back one of the seconds which was information that came out after. Alternatively it could have meant better protections on the 1st rounder. We do not have a 2nd in next years draft. That is a fact. Am I upset about it to the degree you are hinting I may be? No. Am I super happy based on the fact that we could use more guys in our pipeline? Yes I have moved on but we are literally talking about an off season which includes us conveying the pick. Again I will outline things that have happened to inform the future. Again not sure what you would rather have me do. The Kawhi deal was done in a way that was...call it good value. Demar was an all star/ all NBA but not a two way guy. Kawhi was seen at the time as an injury risk. We gave up Poeltl and a a first which became Keldon Johnson. That trade has nothing to do with the Poeltl trade. Part of what made that trade so great was the inclusion of Danny Green who never gets discussed. The second rounders isn't necessarily my issue with the trade but instead it was the protections on the first. Top 6 if you aren't good enough makes it tough with flattened lotery odds so your chances of conveying it if you are bad like us become a 50/50 proposition and every year you are at risk of a convey or keep conversation. Imagine the convey or keep conversation but for another calendar year...doesn't seem like a fund conversation does it. We have a 905 team for example that literally cut half its roster mid way through the season. We need prospects in the pipeline. End of story. To go one step further. If people are suggesting that a Pascal Siakam trade isn't done until you trade bruce brown and see what you get with the 2026 pick from the pacers... shouldn't the same logic apply? That is what ppl are screaming so the logic should be consistent. The Poeltl trade by that logic is not done until 2025 2nd has conveyed. Now will I mention it every time? No, but it will be mentioned here and there. Through the good moves and the bad moves I have outlined each move and given my thoughts. I mean this respectfully, I think you are misunderstanding why it was brought up and blowing it out of proportion. ALSO while I just realized that the audio cut off for some reason and the video froze blake was the one who brought up the trade.

      I am suggesting that they do not defend well on the perimeter AT ALL. Poeltl has trouble finishing games because of his inability to hit FTs and his foul prone nature. This is wy he has never averaged more than 30 minutes a night. He literally averaged around 26 minutes a night for us last year. Kelly O is not a center so it still leaves you with a gaping hole there alone. Will we be better? SURE! ... will we be good? No. 2 years from now will we be good? quite possibly we could be on the rise because we will have another lottery level talent coming in.
