Install Final Fantasy 8 Tonberry Enhanced Mods
มุมมอง 30Kปีที่แล้ว
This tutorial will walk you through the download and installation process for the Tonberry Enhanced Mods for the Steam version of Final Fantasy VIII as well as a few bonus mods. I don't recommend using GeDoSaTo anymore. There are better programs like ReShade that do the same thing but are still being actively supported. That being said, if you still wish to use it then you need to disable UEFI ...

FF8 Lunatic Pandora Mod Installation Tutorial
มุมมอง 1Kปีที่แล้ว
In this guide I'll walk you step by step through installing the Lunatic Pandora mods for your Final Fantasy 8 Remastered game! If you have any questions, issues, or anything else to say then leave a comment and I'll see if I can help you out! The mod isn't 100% complete so some of the HD backgrounds like Balamb Garden and the towns aren't included but a public version is getting released soon (...
Thank you for the tutorial, i followed every step and the game looks better, one question, i downloaded the gunblade cursor/blue gradient texture and moved them to the demaster texture folder, but nothing changed, any idea as to why that might be? thank you for any feedback you can provide. :)
Dragging and dropping the gunblade/gradient textures folder into your DEMASTER_EXP texture folder will only overwrite the files in the "en" folder for the English version of the game. If you are using a different language you will have to make sure the files are moved to the correct language folder. Make sure the files get copied correctly to their icon folders by navigating to the correct DEMASTER_EXP folder for each file and double check that the gunblade and gradient files are there. Replace "en" with your game language if needed. ...\DEMASTER_EXP\textures\hires\iconfl00.tex\en\1 ...\DEMASTER_EXP\textures\hires\iconfl01.tex\en\1 ...\DEMASTER_EXP\textures\hires\iconfl01.tex\en\2 ...\DEMASTER_EXP\textures\icon.tex\en\1 ...\DEMASTER_EXP\textures\icon.tex\en\2 If all else fails, then try copying the files into the textures folder again. I know it doesn't help much but I went through the install process from the beginning on my and everything seems to be working.
@@VestikStudio Thank you so much, i put the testures in the wrong folder but after following what you wrote, it fixed everything. thank you so much.
Quick question here, cause i dont know where to go: I've done the modding thing as described, but when Squall wakes up at the infirmary the background isn't in HD scaled. Its still a bunch of pixelmud. Maybe someone could help, cause i dont know where to search. Thx in advance :)
Sorry to hear that. Those backgrounds are found in the Project AngelWing v3.0 files. You can try copying those files over again to overwrite the existing files to see if that fixes the issue. Are there any other mods you've noticed that don't seem to have installed correctly on your end?
@@VestikStudio finally it works. Dont know what the problem was but copying it over again fixed the issue. The other MODS run just fine at the moment so i can finally enjoy a better looking game. :D
Would you be able to do another video on how to install ReShade?
I'm planning on doing one, but I don't know when I'll have the time to put a video together. There is an older video guide here from Zaeld: th-cam.com/video/w-YGWcKTSEc/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared&t=404 He walks you through these steps found on the QHIMM forums: forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=18415.0 When you get to the 11:30 mark he says to use "SHIFT + F2" to open up the ReShade menu in-game. There is a comment that says that is no longer the shortcut and it has been changed to the "HOME" or "WIN" key instead. I haven't done much with ReShade so I hope that video is enough to get you started with it. I would recommend skipping any GeDoSaTo steps in both my video and his. Good luck!
I pay you homage amazing tutorial
I'm looking to install these for Steam Deck - is there anything I need to consider, obviously it's linux but not sure what I'd need to do differently. Moguri for ff9 for example was a breeze and runs incredibly
I've never installed it on a Steam Deck but I think you just need to add an extra launch command. Check out this link and see if it helps: steamcommunity.com/app/1026680/discussions/0/3593339057329933860/
Hello it does not work on FF8 normal, there always appear "an exeptional error ocurred"
Are you using any additional mods? Have you tried doing a clean install of the game before adding the Requiem files?
@@VestikStudio Yes yes i uninstaled all and deleted from pc and did all steps u said but its the same, before even "new game, continue" that error comes
@@Albert-x6r Were you able to run the game after the reinstall but before adding the mod files? Can you type out the full error message?
@@VestikStudio Yes,the message is "error,an unknown exception ocurred"before SQUARESOFT appears
But the game works good without install any mod
Squalls face is a bit off still like right down the middle is it supposed to look like that?
a HUGE amount of these mods have changed now so do NOT rely on everything in this video...(sorry uploader, stuff has changed)
No apologies necessary! Progress is good! Next time I start another FF8 playthrough I might think about doing an update video if it's needed but hopefully by that time all the mods will be compatible with FFNx.
hello, all worked fin but every time i tried to use my ps4 controller, the game just doesnt recognize it, even using ds4, any ideas of why this happens?
does this Still work?
It should still work. Try both fixes and if neither works for you then let me know and I will see if there is another way to get the game running.
A different version for the FMV"s would be nice, the one you posted has a weird green line on the side :)
Lune-attic! Its not lunatic. Why does everyone say this wrong? When something is "loon-attic" it means it comes from the moon. A " loon-ah-tic" is someone whom goes crazy because of a full moon. Pandora came from the moon so its " loon-attic" pandora..smh
Thanks!!!
Thank you so much, i played the remaster on console and was disappointed , not long built a beasty pc and this has blew me away ❤ appreciate you
Thank you so much, thanks to you I got the mods working. Apart from this, I followed everything but for some reason, I installed Angelwing ultima the same way and it didn't change anything.
Is there a way to remove the black bars?
The only way I'm aware of is to stretch the game with another program like ReSharper.
The best video ever!
Secure boot error it appers that you are using windows 8 or 10 system with uefi secure boot enbed this pervents gedasto from working i got this error message whnwe trying to run geto and dont fully get what i means
If your system has uefi secure boot enabled then I wouldn't worry about using GeDoSaTo. The graphic improvements aren't worth the tradeoff for turning uefi secure boot off since it's a windows security feature. There are other programs, like ReShade, you can look into that do the same thing but better.
@@VestikStudio ok then
Hiii thanks for the tutorial, and i have a question, this works with the game in spanish?
Most, if not all, of the mods should work with the Spanish version of the game. I'm not sure how complete the text files are for Spanish but all the other textures will work.
There are quite a bunch of seemingly newer versions and other mods. Would be nice to know wheather the Tonberry selection is still the best choice? for example: - SeedRemastered_v1-2 (UI, gray version like original) - Lionheart-Remastered_v2-0 (weapon textures) - RebirthFlame-Remastered_v2-0-V (battle char textures) - FieldModelTextures_v1-0-1 (char models textures) Furthermore there is Ragnarok Mod which rebalances the gameplay.
The Remastered versions are for the Remastered version of FF8, not this version. I believe Ragnarok is compatible with these mods as well.
Did anyone ever find a fix for the graphics???
Thanks you so much
i cant seem to find the decodification keys for the mods, what should i do?
Which mod are you trying to find the keys for? If this is an error message, what message are you seeing? Most of these mods are drag-and-drop and shouldn't require any type of decoding keys. The only one that requires much setup is GeDoSaTo and I don't recommend using it anymore as it's hit or miss depending on your PC setup and the improvement it provides is negligible.
Random question When i launch everything is working, except the resolution of my monitor is 2k, but there is no 4k option and the resolution looks like its 480p. I have the Gunblade cursor and an improved menu page, I'm not really sure how to fix this .
Sounds like it could be an issue with GeDoSaTo. With the amount of issues I've seen in the comments I would recommend launching the game without GeDoSaTo running to see if that fixes anything.
@@VestikStudio Thanks for taking the time to reply. I attempted to configure GeDiSaTo, with no luck. I took your advice and stopped it from running and found everything worked perfectly. Thanks again for the video and help :)
Wait a minute. Did everything right but the texture remain the same. Is it because I have echo s8 installed prior tonbery? I read in comment section that this mod is not supported with tsunamods
That's correct. Echo S8 is not compatible with these mods. It takes priority over them so the mod textures don't end up get loaded. You can either have Echo S8 or the texture mods installed but not both. Efforts are currently ongoing to get these mods compatible with the FFNx mod manager tool that would allow you to have both the texture mods and Echo S8 installed at the same time.
@@VestikStudio Thanks this just answered my question. Because the Gedo Soto wasn't working. I change screen resolution in the files and nothing just a Hour Glass. And this makes sense when I deactivate Gedo Soto it starts working again.
I did everything but I don't get the extra resolution options in the game settings. -Yes the FF8 EN and Launcher appear in the GeDoSaTo drop down list under edit settings. -Yes I ran it as administrator -Yes they are on my C Drive
Since I've upgraded my PC GeDoSaTo hasn't worked for me at all so I can't troubleshoot it anymore. If you want something that does the same thing but better, you can try ReShade. It has better support and there are a bunch of tutorials on how to set it up to work with your games.
@@VestikStudio I just gave up and played at 4k resolution since that's what the highest was. It seemed to work fine. GeDoSaTo itself says everything is okay, but the resolutions don't show up in game. Thanks for the great tutorial. If only there was a way to make the game truly 60fps instead of just making the animations faster.
FF8 just will not run with GeDoSaTo running no matter what I try. Shit sucks.
What is "DLPB's Selection" with Roses & Wine??? It doesn't really explain it anywhere, not even the website..
Thank you for this guide, it was really easy to follow. The only thing I dislike are the stat abbreviations were replaced by some unintuitive icons. Is there a way to revert it? Which mod is causing this?
SeeDReborn is the UI mod that changes the icons. You can find the files with the stat icons in in "..\textures\ic\iconfl02" and "..\textures\ic\iconflmaster". I'm not sure what would happen if you removed the files from those folders, but it might use the original game icons if it can't find the modded files. If that doesn't work then I think it would be easiest to do a clean install and not install the SeeDReborn mods. The ControllerButtons mod is dependent on SeeDReborn so if you end up not using SeeDReborn at all then make sure you don't use the ControllerButton mod either.
Thank you very much! Muito obrigado!
roses and wine not working for me, version is the same 07, and when i install i have no music just sounds, when i delete ddraw.dll and restore dmusic files then it plays original music, if i copy ddraw.dll to raw\custom\dlls then it gives audio error and says it wil not use roses and wine
After you run the Roses and Wine installer as administrator are there any files in your "..\FINAL FANTASY VIII\RaW\GLOBAL\Music" folder? It should work after it finishes running without you having to move any files around on your own. Try running Roses and Wine and checking the "Uninstall this mod (ignores all options above)" option to uninstall it. Then run it again and select the tracks you want to see if it was just a software hiccup when you ran it the first time.
@@VestikStudio after running installer there are files in raw\global\music and installer makes backup of data\dmusic folder, and in options ini use ogg is y, i tried uninstall but it's the same...now installed raw w03b steam edition, and it does work with that, i noticed it creates new ff8_launcher.exe and original is renamed to ff8_launch2.exe and instead ddraw.dll it has raw.dll....also some tracks are missing in w03b that are in w07...i guess i could try manually copy all ogg from w07 to w03b
I don't think GeDoSato is working for me, my game doesn't launch full screen
From what I've seen in the comments GeDoSaTo is hit or miss. If it's not working for you then don't worry about using it. It doesn't offer much of a visual payoff anyways. If you enjoy playing around with the graphical quality, then there are other programs like ReShade that you can try instead.
i get the error 0xc000007b, please help!
GeDoSaTo has caused problems for many people so if you ended up installing it try running the game without it. Other than that, I would recommend removing the mod files from your game folder and doing a clean install of your game so you can install each mod one at a time and run the game so you can see which mod is giving you that error.
I couldn't believe my luck when I found this video. It would have been totally unreasonable to expect there to be such a useful, up-to-date guide so long after the release of the game! Thank you for your effort!
Is there an issue doing this on windows 11? I can play the game without the mods, no problem, but once i install them (minus the gedosato stuff), the game will not open. I even did it WITH the gedosato and the game will still not open. It "launches" but it doesnt actually launch...any ideas?
The only thing that comes to mind is to make sure you are installing these on the 2013 Steam version (original port) of the game and not the Remastered version. There is another set of mods for the Remastered version. These mods aren't compatible with the Remastered version. If you have the right version of the game for these mods then your best chance at troubleshooting would be to remove the mods and install them one at a time and run the game between each one you install to see if there is a certain mod that is keeping your game from launching properly.
@@VestikStudio Thanks so much, sorry for such a late reply. I will try 1 by 1 and see how that works. EDIT: I reinstalled the game through steam, its not the remastered version. I did step one, the visual ++, no problems there. I did step 2, and the game will not start...lol...any ideas? I just deleted the tonberry enhanced files and it works fine...
@@tarrantking289have you tried reinstalling the latest direct-x?
But is this the mod that gives squall the face that is most similar to the original (more mature too, might I add)? Because I knew that they are working on this mod that I'm talking about.
There are a few different textures you can choose from. You can see the comparisons here: forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=16022.0
Those mod packs aint that good. Horizon Pack 3.0 had original textures upscaled, and now it is unavailable. The newer version replaces original textures with different ones. Why would i want that. The BattlefieldPack "recreates" or "gives completely new artwork" to some battlefield. I'm trying to setup this game for my first playthrough, i definitely wont use that. Simple upscale would be good "enough" (would be best). Project Hellfire is also just too much of a change. Adds things that weren't. Apocalypse looks great (what Project Hellfire should be) but now "certain animations won't work". Ok, than i'm not touching it. And now, should i change enemies textures to upscaled ones, when i leave bosses untouched? Rest of the mods (and those are most important ones - playable chars textures and backgrounds) hopefully doesnt inlcude some "creative additions", and just upscale the textures.
thx bro
Thank you for your work. Any mods for the music?
The Roses and Wine link on this page has the files to mod the music thereunion.live/software.html The URL has been updated since I made this video. I have updated it in the video description.
I have followed the instructions and ran the game but don't see any of the changes. Was there something that I should've done besides copying all the texture files and run the game? I ended up using a different mod method known as demaster and demaster mod textures and they work perfectly fine but this tonberry folder method doesn't work for me. Is there a way to 'activate' the tonberry?
The Tonberry mods are for the 2013 Steam version of the game. The Demaster files are for the 2019 Remastered version of the game. It sounds like you are using the Remastered version of the game so the Demaster files are the ones you want to use.
They really need to figure out a way to make installing mods easy. I keep BEGGING people to play FF7 with mods, and even with 7th Heaven, people find it too difficult.
the blink for the roses and wine mod does not work
Thanks for pointing that out! I've updated the link in the video description: thereunion.live/software.html

10/10 tutorial!
Hi again ! Everything works as intended, except for the buttons display... I have a PS4 controller connected with my PC, so i choose FF8_Buttons_PS3-PS4_SPC-Generic folder to copy, but it doesn't work, it is still letters... I tried to copy others PS folders, same... Any idea ?
Have you loaded a save or started a new game yet? The splash screen before the title screen will always show keyboard inputs. Start a game and open the menu and you can check out the buttons under Config -> Controller -> Customize.
I have copy/paste the buttons folder before launching the game, then i load my saved game. When i go to config > controller > customize there is still letters… (sorry for my french english !)
@@VestikStudioi have customized controller in steam ( community customize )
@@MrNanomac Are you using the French version of the game? If you are, make sure you downloaded the French version of SeedReborn since different language versions of the game map textures differently and could be the reason your buttons aren't getting updated. forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15320.0 If that's not the fix, then read through the Controller Button comments in forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=15905.0 to see what others did to fix this issue. There are a few comments that have problems similar to yours. I don't know how the files are set up for different language versions of the game so troubleshooting will be a bit slow on my end. I really appreciate that! I'm glad the video format worked well for you!

HELP! Did all the steps (or atleast I think I did), when I went to load it up, it loads up, music, improved graphics and all, but the windowed screen I can play it in,, is like roughly a 3x4 window instead of the whole screen or a "full screen effect" is there a keyboard shortcut I can use or an edit of some type to restore full screen? Aside from that, Fantastic walkthrough! wouldn't have had the time and patience to walk it like you explained it. Thank you!
NVM, I think I fixed it, I play on a 4k monitor, and I set the settings to double the resolution on the settings (from my normal 3840x2160 to 7000x4320), which gave me the small screen, when i went to down scale it to my normal 3840x2160, it now shows full screen with writing in the upper left corner "down sampling 1 level 3840x2160->3840x2160 lancos scaling"
@@bassx101 I'm glad you got it figured out!

why aren't the field mods working? aka any city i go in the textures are still dogshit? when i go out into the world they are fine. but any city like dollet for example just looks bad and i followed all your instructions
Angelwing isn't publicly released yet so I didn't include it in this video. You can find that mod on the creator's Patreon with a SeeD membership ($2) www.patreon.com/mcindusmods He is planning on a public release very soon. Hopefully in the next week or so.
So I installed all the mods (not nearly as quick and easy as 7 and 9 with the UI Fronts), but big kudos to you. To make a long story short, the remastered version is the definitive version. Only the blurred backgrounds need fixing in the newest version. Everything else here you dont really need and some customizations are too much, like replacing stat abbreviations with icons. PS1 emulated or remastered is still probably the best way to play. This is also one game you really want to speed up when it comes to drawing magic and thats easiest on the remastered version.
remastered cant use the succession mod though i dont think which is very much needed imo
That mod is garbage. It just makes the game into a bad fanfic.
