The sound aint it imo😅 flat engines only sound good in cars with more cylinders
It sounds like an angry dyson vacuum cleaner 😆
bmw’s can sound good. They need low frequency to dominate
Nice isn’t it
Not nice for the wallet, the demos have had a devastating impact 🤣
@ the only think that scares me on mine is the Carbon wheels. Ding up one of those in your out $3k and have to wait on one.
I was surprised to see book say same all round valve clearance Having had my 400/4 17 years and being motorcycle mechanic. Valve set to 2 inlet 4thou exhaust because heat.
a great video with good footage and exceptional “isms”. well balanced with relaxing process shots, experience, knowledge, and skill sharing. had to take it in a few sittings, but very entertaining. thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching Mr KDX master, I appreciate the feedback
My friend... I Have a Honda 550F1 Super Sport from 1976, my first bike given from my father when I was 16 years old! I Was born in 1977 and i had to wait 2 years to ride it leagly.... Today I have 5 bikes... Enduro, street... blah blahh... But my 550F1? Sitll with me! That is my love! And the sound of our 400? The Same! A Ferrari in F1!
I hope to keep this one around for a long time, such a lovely bike. I do appreciate your watching. I think I have 8 bikes now haha.
Great video. Really enjoyed it. I may have missed it, but where did you buy the rear fender? Thanks!

Very good in depth compilation .That dent puller tool ws an interesting bit of kit .Gas tank dents are a tough nut to crack for sure . The paint came out quite nice after your polishing technique . I like how methodical you attack each phase of restoration .You've done a stellar job restoring that lovely little Honda ,it's a beauty . Always enjoy your content .Cheers buddy 🍺
I appreciate it, and i appreciate being considered methodical as my brain seems like its scrambled and im barely holding it together 🤣
@GoldenBoyGarage ha ha ..well you mask it brilliantly 👌
I loved my 4/4 back in the day. The engine always felt more powerful than it actually was and the brakes were crap even by the standards of the day, but it was just a jewel of a machine to ride. I'm not sure that the paint job is correct for the year as that looks like an F1 model and that pinstripe version I think was exclusive to the F2 model. Maybe different in the US as I had a UK model of the bike. The main difference between the F1 and F2 was that the latter model had separate hangers for the pillion footrests rather than having them on the swinging arm. Great job though and I'm sure it will give you years of fun.
The brakes seemed to improve a bit after bedding in, but its always jarring how bad they are after being on a modern bike! Webike has a brembo 2 pot conversion but its not cheap. Paint is correct on the bike, the models are all slightly different depending on the market, Ive seen the F2 tanks without the lid elsewehre too! The US bikes have the weird swingarm pillion mounts, and more upright seating for people who dont like the sporty seating. Appreciate you watching and sharing
Greetings from POLAND !! Great job !!
dziękuję i mam nadzieję, że masz się dobrze
@@GoldenBoyGarage yeah but i have some issues in my part time job so i dont have time to check my garage ;D
Good job! I love my yellow 400!!
I wish I could have a yellow one, or just a yellow bike in general!
@@GoldenBoyGarage Yeah yellow bikes are super cool, my one is imported from the UK and I think that version is one of the best color and decal schemes.
These things are little rocket ships for what they are.....LOVE the I.T. inspired colour scheme
Unbelievably fast and well configured for a little 50, I love that they omitted the 50 bit in the livery
Yep....and still big enough for a full sized adult@@GoldenBoyGarage
@@GoldenBoyGaragein some markets these had a disc brake up front
Wow,it sounds like big bore bike with the new muffler! I like it!
I had removed the baffle yesterday to repack, and everyone assumed I was riding a large sport bike at meet-up 😆Thank you for watching!
So were not all super sports fitted with a cafe fender? F , cafe fender and K chrome metal fender? It's such a sweet sounding and running little bike!!! I just love it!!
The replacement fender is one for one replacement of OEM, I know there were some variations depending on US / EU / JP markets and years. If Im misunderstanding your question let me know Ill try to answer best i can
@GoldenBoyGarage okay, the variations are most likely what I'm unaware of and nosir,I wasn't questioning you! I really don't know !
Nice work! Sounds healthier than ever.
She rips super good, it's my favorite bike for sure. I really appreciate the opportunity to rip on something cool and know the history behind it!
I know these bikes extremely well.. you have fitted the cam sproket the wrong way round the timing marks should be on the same side as the bolts
@@LondonPianoman reviewing the service manual the marks are opposite the bolt heads, timing marks are shown facing the point side, which also makes logical sense. I put it on the way it came off, there is notable seasoning on the sprocket from baked oil.
No way that is wide open...my S1000XR wheelies if i go wide open at that rev and speed...the M is way more powerful and lighter.
was rolled into, and the wheel did come up a bit toward the end, tried to keep it modest so as to not get yelled at again by the BMW ride leader people. Do wish I could have had some unsupervised time with it. I will say I test rode the XR as well, in dynamic mode and tried to goose it and it would not come up at all?? I didn't mess with the settings beyond dynamic mode, but I would have thought for sure it would have to.
I am interested in buying this bike, please contact me
have sent you an email sir
That little head shake at the top of 2nd gear 😳
Just making sure I didn't fall asleep 😂
Really liking this channel, hope you keep the videos coming!
Really appreciate it, I have a bunch of footage for full DT50 rebuild and other 400F, been busy riding thru the hurricane, but I promise more great stuff to come!
Will you sell me this bike or would you help me find a similar one? Thanks
My partner would probably throw a fit if I sold this bike, would have to be 7k to consider parting. I will say there are some a bit cheaper I have seen recently on FB Marketplace needing a bit of love around 3500. The CB400F groups on there have a great owner-base and will help point them out
I had a400 f ,it was one of my favorite bikes ever.I still miss it.😊
It's become one of my favorite bikes, I pretty much always grab it over the other 7 in the garage, you can still find them cheap ish!
I had one of these (but a red F1) in 1976 and I also had a H2 quakka 750 and a CR250 Honda. I wish I had not sold them.
I've recently picked myself up an H1 500. There's a few shorts of it up. The H2 are super pricy now unfortunately. The kawi triples are something else! Thank you for watching
Cool vid. Rebuilding a 350f now. Hope to ride tomorrow. I picked it up for $300, but chasing down issues had it for 15 years and only Ridenour for a short time . Tore it apart 10x, jugs were oblong from some knucklehead honing it wrong, but never knew till recently.. ONWARD⚡️.
Its always the pesky previous owners, hopefully you get it up and running shortly, the community for the 350 and 400 seems to be strong and helpful! Appreciate you sharing!
@@GoldenBoyGarage thanks mate, It’s running!! ✊ I love the little critter.. . Still dialing it in for the first ride. No electrical gremlins left…me thinks. RIDE ON
Thx ! Saved this vid and have been watching the sync method here about 10x, to grasp it. where you’re tying up/all the way open and then adjusting the top screw/nuts, then Releasing the slides all the way down and doing the 1/8mm at the bottom . Theres some questions when you’re explaining, wish I could clarify, but I’m just gonna go for it at this point and see how it feels 😊
You're welcome to reach out if you need additional help. I have a discord or if you join one of the 350/400 facebook groups folks generally try to help. The idea though is to get the throttle opened most all of the way, hold it open with the wire so your hands dont get tired, then screwing/unscrewing the link adjusters will get them all sticking down the same amount, when you close it, they should be very close. There's a few different ways to do it, but this ensures you get full throttle motion
wish u could see how kleen she is now
Its the fluid film protecting the paint haha
I have a 1996 DT 125 down in Nicaragua that I use everytime I go down there its got plates and I use it to drive around the whole country my cousin and his friends does the maintenance, its always needing something everytime i go back down theres, last time it was the ignition coil being too weak and clutch cable broke, its supposedly all fixed now, I rode that DT 50 way back in the 90s when I took the Motorcycle MSF Class up here in Wisconsin. I dont think its necessary to make that liquid cooled all that did is add costs and maintenance and another point of failure. I would change the Antifreeze ASAP cause if you don't the water pump seal might get damamged and then you will have to replace the water pump unecesarily, replace the radiator cap too. The automotive fuel filter idea is fine but thats way too much garbage in the filter with just a single trip around the farm, you really need to take off the fuel tank, dump the gas, then fill it up with hot soap and water and shake it up, dump, rinse and repeat till the tank has no more free floating bits, some people say to add marbles or BB pellets to free up any loose material, you can also snake a long wired brush into the tank, and replace the filter again, everytime you ride rotate the fuel filter a little bit so the fuel uses a different cleaner section of the paper element. The oil pump is running dry, I dont know what happens if the oil pump locks up? If it locks up will it damage the gear thats connected to the rest of the engine? For two stroke oil premix with YamaLube, the ratio is 50 to 1. Turn Signals are on ebay, they dont necesarily have to be original, you can really use anything. I would leave the tires, pull the tubes out and patch them up then reuse. I assume you have some nice long and sturdy spoon Motorcycle Tire Arms Levers, you need three. For the streets here in the USA theres still a good amount of 1970s DTs between 125 and 250 and 400, get yourself one of the bigger models which are in excellent condition, they pop up on ebay and craigslist from time to time, have cash ready on hand and plan to fly out to drive it back home, if you need a Transporter to ride it back im available. Keep It Old School. I have up a video on my Two Stroke Suzuki TS 250, its a cousin of the DT, not too many TS floating around. Kawasaki has some Two Strokes too floating around. But to keep things easy I would say stick to the DeeTeez.
Since I made this first video, I ended up completely rebuilding the engine, it had no coolant in it, crank seals were gone, bolts broke off, its been a nightmare haha. While somehow not rusty at all, everything on this bike ended up being a total nightmare, I just have to put the videos together, oil pump seemed to be fine. That gas tank was a nightmare, I have a short up showing some of how that went down, but sounds like youve battled a few crusty old two strokes in your day! Ill check out your channel
Well now ..thats a bit of a pickle ...yikes
I forgot to screw the sump plug back in, we were checking the oil regularly as it was already leaking pretty bad! over 1000kms after a full day of work!
@@GoldenBoyGarage Oh jeeez man thats a tough finish to a long hard day ...Damn .
Sounds excellent and looks cool too .
Is that thing had reed valve or nah ?
@@ALIGwedew62 the kawi triples are piston ported. Used to be Reed conversions, but hard to come by unless you want to do custom work!
I melt my speakers to this when im not riding my 400.
How about fitting euro handlebars or do you peple tie your shoes whilst upright
I am pretty tall and the bike is pretty small so I am inclined to leave it be, I also dont care for pushing the control wires thru the bars enough. That can be the job of the next owner, though I certainly understand the appeal of the lower bars and rear-set pegs. Honda should have known better than to think this would convince Americans to buy a small bike haha.
@@theaustralianconundrum Hey man, I spend a lot of my time and money making these with the goal of sharing and helping other folks. Its always nice to hear that people appreciate it instead of throwing out rude and unhelpful comments!
@@theaustralianconundrum You mind telling me which music? There are many tracks in each video.
Am I tripping or does she sound a bit "cam chainey"?
It microphone is mounted to the underside of the rear fender for this video, so the drive chain gets picked up
Sooo sloooooooooow
😍
Nice job. Can you please tell me, what was the blue paste in the jar that you were using to polish the wheel rims? Thanks.
It's called Blue Magic metal polish, it's at most auto part stores in the USA. Strong ammonia smell
Awesome 2 stroke - proper brutal sound!
Do you have an opinion on the NEW Honda 400 Four due to be released for 2025?
I havent seen anything that looks real? Ive seen some clickbait stuff on youtube and speculation. The 'renders' ive seen dont seem like they would pass muster for a real bike. That said Im all four it (pun intended), Id figure the US wont get one, but then again we got a 400 4 from kawasaki recently
Great content and enjoy your presentation. So at the end of the video you mention “new fender”. Is that the rear fender? Also could you put in some links to where you ordered some parts pls Just yesterday I picked up a 77. Needs parts. Thanks
The rear fender that has been cut is getting replaced in the next video. Most of the parts I grabbed were from webike japan and cmsnl. If you order from webike just have a list going so you combine shipping costs. I will add some links to the description in the next hour
If you have any specific questions let me know btw
Jai eu 3x cb400four et jpeux vous dire que son cable de rpm fausse la lecture. Il n' atteint pas ce quil marque sur cette video
Interesting to know, i want to put a digital tachometer on now and see where it lands!
please ride that to ohio so i can ride south charleston😅😅😅
I tried that floating height…but doesnt work in mine Cb because i lose fuel from vent below…the tank become too much full of fuel…do you not lose fuel when you do a downhill?
Since replacing the float needles with Keyster replacements they have not leaked at all. Sometimes the brass pipes that are coming from the float bowls will crack and leak, I would check those. If they are cracked you can solder them and itll stick just like if you were putting wires together.
I dont guess they are cracked because with a big floating height they doesnt lose nothing , its all completly dry and bike start but if i use full throttle instantly the engine turn off like it doesn t have fuel but if i use thrlottle gradually it goes perfectly and go on high rpm…do you think that the second jet doesnt get fuel properly for instant throttle or i need to change max jets? I haven t the original air filter , it have the aftermarket filters and max jets are 75
@@loks2569 the fuel leaking would be a separate issue from the jetting, but something is definitely off for fuel/air ratio if it dies when you open the throttle. Try revving with the choke partly on. If it works better than the bike is probably lean off idle. I would think if you have pod filters you will definitely need to up your jets. My bike is pretty lean with stock jetting and it was made a bit worse with my new muffler.
I tried! With choke lightly on,it works but idle go up…i tried to cover the filters to simulate less air but the bike do other problems like go at 3 cilinders or rev up slowly…i dont know how to fix this problem…maybe I need to create an airbox or change 75 jets with 85s instead or change float height like yours but i will lose fuel at vents…i m really confused…can I ask you what does the secondary jets do? What do you suggest?thanks for help!❤
Great video!! My dad gave me his ‘77 CB400f that he bought brand new off the showing floor. I’ll be watching your videos as I’m going to get started getting it running. Dad passed one year ago to the day I came across your video, think dad wanted me to see it for the inspiration. It’s the parakeet yellow and has 79k on it, all put on by the family. I had to get a red tank as Dad had the original repainted and they didn’t prime it right and it rusted out, bummer. I look forward to the day I can hear that great little engine run again and take it for a ride.
I acquired this bike right after my father had passed and making these videos helped keep me busy. He used to tell me stories about his old Kawi H1 500, so naturally I bought one on fathers day this year! I will have another video hopefully this week for the bike doing some finishing touches. 79k Indicates a lot of love for that bike! I have been averaging about 200 miles a week on my 400, its a lovely bike and worth the work. The facebook groups are also great for help, lots of nice folks. Really appreciate your watching
When your skin sticks to the exhaust, you know its hot.
I’m starting to work on getting my Dad’s old CB400f ready, lots of memories with this bike. Dad bought it new in early ‘78 and it’s a ‘77 model. 79k miles on it and it’s been in the family since New. Will be following your channel and looking forward to hearing that sound from the old 400 as it is like heaven. Ride safe friend!!
