Do you eat spotties ?
1st attempt at SoCal swordfishing a couple of days ago was a big fail. Fished the North 9 - 178 area, 1200 ft, saw a DSL layer at about 175 ft, seemed a bit too high up, is that common? maybe I should have looked around more for a deeper layer.

Man I fished one of those marinas 2 nights ago for a little over an hour before work and it was wide open 32 spotties best hour of fishing of my life. Literally every cast damn near was a fish.
They can be hit or miss , but I always spend some time back there! It can be very good.

They're BoatBuckle Pros that are private label. I had the BoatBuckle Retractable ones on for years and they just gave out. I will eventually buy another set of those.
Great video, it’s not easy to launch solo especially with bigger boats, you nailed it! I would add one thing that I do - take note of any wind conditions prior to choosing the dock to ensure the boat is blown to the near side once ejected from the trailer.
That's a great tip and something I do take into account, however one of the main reasons I put my boat on the left side of the dock is so I have plenty of room to open my truck door

Was shore pounding last week and had a boater pull up about 20 yards in front of me and start huckin with his buddy down in SD last week. I held my ground and fished where I wanted as well letting that 1/2 jighead and Shimano DC sing well long story short we both caught fish I bounced a bait off the side of his boat he got the point and went somewhere else. Wouldn’t have gone there if he hadn’t done the same thing the day before from shore as well. I am sure we will meet again and we can see how it all shakes out. There’s plenty of water for all.
Hey Jason, while I agree it’s not cool to encroach on someone fishing I also don’t think you should ever intentionally hit someone’s boat with your lure. Two wrongs don’t make a right, sometimes you gotta be the bigger person whether it’s ethically right or wrong. Glad it all worked out for you though

Great idea. A lot of teams do put fish back in their live wells and drive them back outside the harbor and release them

Well cowcod reach an approximate maximum size of 30lbs and have a life span of about 55yrs…I didn’t check his ID but I would estimate this fish was up there in age
Look it up. That fish is probably older. Rock fish live a long time.

@DanielA-mp2sk my current set up is a Daiwa Catalina 7.3:1 with 15lb Izorline XXX and a Shimano Intenza 711MH-G. I also like to fish my Dobyns 804CB. Anything composite in the 8-9ft range will work. Inside the bay you could go a little shorter. I prefer a faster reel as its easier to slow down and wind a bait then it is to speed up to get it down to the proper depth. Tackle video dropping tomorrow too btw!
The port police explanation of where we can fish was helpful. I shy away from fishing there because I don't know the rules.

Was that LA harbor ?? I had a very different experience with LA police , told me I cannot fish back there at all. I checked the tariffs could not find anything on not being able to fish.
