The different versions of names are not nicknames, they are just more familiar versions of first names. Pretty much every name in Czech and Slovak (Which is basically a dialect of Czech, but don't tell the Upper Hungarians) has them. The game uses archaic language in Slovakian as well, which is pretty funny to modern Czechs and Slovaks and adds a lot to the game.
