Nice clean instruction ❤
Your explanation makes perfect sense. I always wondered why Lee's description of Muay Thai was nearly word for word what was described by Robert W Smith in his seminal Asian Fighting Arts work. I would have to say that I would question both Smith and Lee as to why they didn't have a higher opinion of Muay Thai? I think time has kind of proven how functional Thai Boxing is. Smith made some comparisons between Thai and Burmese Boxing with a more favorable opinion of the Burmese (he noted that Burmese generally won mixed Burmese Thai matches due to weight advantages). The reality is that both Muay Thai and Lethwei are brutal martial sports with a lot of transfer for real world self defense. Lee seems to have been almost unaware of it. His student, Dan Inosanto, was the one who introduced Thai Boxing to the JKD community and realized its value. Good video, thanks.
Bruce Lee had a brief stint as a dance iinstructor. Movement integration in response to the opponent.
The hard part I think is unlearning pre-concieved ideas/patterns and starting with a blank slate - a simple solid foundation from which to build.
very true, Jeff
Thanks Chris for your passion and dedication.. As in Dune, the movie, "Fear is the mind killer". The fear of failure (fill in the blank) sometimes holds me back, which by definition limits follow-through ( a potential failure loop). Fear causes body tension which limits delivered power and increases fatigue. Additionally it contributes to the effectiveness of an opponents blow. At least in my limited experience. "Be like water my friend"- Bruce Lee.
I think even if the opponent tries to pendulum after the stop kick they're still within distance for a follow-up
the potential does exist, yes.
Thanks Chris. I'm going to need to work on my footwork and remember basic attacks and counters I think before I do awareness drills....
You can combine them beginning with very easy motions first and progressing forward
It's like Marcus Aurelius, his notes were turned into a book, many times over. None the less, the old book is good and it may have brung Bruce Lee's fans a little closer to him. Good vid. 👍😎👍
Very true. Thanks for your comments
At last. Some brave man came out to defend a dead man’s private notes. Thank you.
💯
Hi. I want to ask if it's possible for me to research Wing Chun so I can fully understand JKD?
I remember you showing me how to use the shoulder roll into a lead hook kick.
Thank you Sifu Kent
Chris i would love to hear your thoughts on Jiu Jitsu and your experience with it over the years. Experiences.
That you have to still remind people of this fact, Chris - something you to me and my classmates some 40 years ago - saddens me. That you still do so with patience and clarity is nothing short of amazing. Fist Bump.
Thank you Chris!
Old school JKD ! Reminds me of the good ol days... Love it!
Yes, good times
Good Ahmed from Morocco, I have studed deeply JKD, as I know you well, Thank you
You are very welcome
Well said Chris! Thanks and keep up the great work!
why dont people already know this LOL.. crazy how people can be so stupid and Chris Kent has to post this video explaining .
Bruce God Lee in widow as wife 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😢😮😮😮😮😮😅😅😅😊😊😊
Tons of respect. Great simple correct lesson. Just want to point out to any new to jkd viewers. Your hand should move before your front foot unlike this graceful demonstrative helper. One big step and a punch is a no go. If your to far or to slow to execute you need to close the distance. There's some serious telegraphing here
Your latest videos are all uploaded as made for kids again.
Fixed it. Thanks again.
I think my other helpful comment has gone to your spam held for review folder.
Thank you for reposting. The slide step for the counter side kick is so underutilized. It's makes for a great counter kick.
You're welcome, Chad

Thank you
Thats an amazing evolution
Glad you enjoyed the video
She has great energy, Chris, to throw you off your center as much as she did.
I can’t wait to attend the Titans of JKD seminar and learn from Chris Kent! ☯️✌️
Looking forward to meeting and working with you
I enjoyed learning the Ung Moon form however I understand your opinion on its real value as it relates to knowing or understanding JKD. "For me" the Ung Moon form was a stepping stone that served a purpose for a period of time and I discarded its formal practice and moved into a free form shadowboxing format.
Thank you for your comments. I appreciate it.
@@chriskentjeetkunedo123 - Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience of JKD. I love all of your books and instructional videos. Best wishes for good health.
Makes sense, what’s your opinion on the 10 JKD dummy sets?
They are sets that were created by Sifu Inosanto using material that comes from JFGF. They can serve a purpose but it's not necessary to learn all the sets to be able to say you know or understand JKD. A person can learn to freelance on the dummy but they have to be willing to do the work necessary to be able to do so.
Very cool I think a lot of people miss the last one the hit itself I practiced this a lot after seeing this video awhile ago thanks Sifu Kent
You're welcome
I’ve seen Guro Inosanto do this at a seminar on video. But wouldn’t you say they/us would have to have Jun Fan Gung Fu as our foundation? I’ve just seen a lot of second generation instructors who were trained in JKD not doing anything that resembles JKD in my opinion and it looks like mixed martial arts in the cage. I don’t bash any JKD guys, but it’s sad to me a lot went to the mma thing cause it’s popular and gets students to sign up. I was hoping someone would continue more what Sifu Hartsell was doing trapping to grappling. Instead they just started Jiu jitsu or shooto. To each their own, however I do believe JKD is slowly dying. Not to many people besides yourself and Sifu Tackett teaching Jun Fan. I’ll always love JKD, but it seems like it’s failed commercially and business wise which makes no sense to me. Seems Jiu Jitsu schools are popping up everywhere. Love the videos Sifu Kent and your pdf articles you post on your Facebook. Happy training and godbless.
I cannot speak for other people and what they do, but the question goes back to semantics regarding the terms JKD and JFGF. I do not follow the point of view espoused by many that GFGF is the physical art and JKD is a philosophy. JKD is JKD. What I agree with you is that many people purporting to teach JKD have followed an agenda set by others and that is to simply add a bunch of material that makes you commercially viable and follows the course of everyone else.
Thank you. I’m glad it was helpful to you
I still have your jeet Kune do book with this drill in. It’s nice to see the drill in action as that book was a really cool learning aid when I was young and first starting out with jkd. It’s faded now due to the sun 😂
buena, I see mma shredded Jeff Chan does this kind of shift a lot where he would slip his head left on his left feet at the back and then slip right with his right foot moving back to avoid the one two and then the flurry after. Amazing in real fight. Also work with attacking and counter punches, same mechanism.
Nice!
Looks good sir. P.S. I really like Ted Wong's footwork.
Uh . . . you’re not actually striking anything. Just wanted to point that out.
But practicing the movement better than doing nuttin! 🎉
Profweigand- Uh... He did say you're not going to hit the wall. You need to pay attention to details Just wanted to point that out.
The point of the video is to illustrate that if one does not have a heavy one can still work on finding the positions of various strikes and body positioning as one does when using a heavy bag. I would never expect someone to hit a wall.
I learned this from a Filipino martial arts instructor - step and slide in 8 different directions, slide and step, push step, box step, and the best of all - walk by. When combined you traverse the ring like a cat. In the end it made me a much better dancer
You are SO SKILLED🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Martial “urt” ?
He kept learning from fook yeung in Seattle. I worked out that he trained wing chun fur 12 years.
