    What happens if you invest in ETFs inside a super fund? For example, hostplus allows you to invest directly in a range of approved ETFs. The idea is you don't access the funds until retirement and reinvest the dividends/distributions as you go. How does this work from a tax perspective?

    Looking at starting my investing journey into ETF’s this week, only going to have 2 ETF’s and buy in weekly over a 30 year period, can I just pass this AMIT report that vanguard will send me to my tax agent at the end of the year and they will sort it out ?, I like basic and I will just keep the record of it every year.

    • @navexa-tracker
      @navexa-tracker 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on your tax agent. It has really surprised me how many accountants have no idea how to handle ETFs. The issue that is happening as of recent, is the ETF providers are pre-filling the relevant sections in the ATO myTax system. So Investors assume, theres nothing extra I need to do right! However, the ATO is not keeping track of the AMIT cost base adjustments for you. As when it comes to Capital Gins Tax, you have quite a bit of flexibility on how you calculate it. So long story short, if your tax agent keeps track of all your AMIT cost abse adjustments and knows to retrospectively apply them when calculating capital gains, then sure. Otherwise, you need to do it yourself. I of course recommend Navexa to handle it!

      Keep it simple, buy things you understand, take some risk but don't try to shoot the lights out. I’m invested in ETFs, equity index funds, and individual stocks and use a CFA. On average, she takes an agreed %age off earnings, but using *Lina Dineikiene's* system makes it much more hands-off. I conservatively follow her recommendations and market entry and exit points, and tbh this makes it fairly simple for me... I am convinced it's not just hard work but smart work :-)

    @chris-vw2nb 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    In relation to ETFs...I cant stress how easy Navexa makes it for you to enter your AMIT Statement into your "income" section. And yes it makes a huge difference to your taxable income. If you do not enter your Amit statements the whole figures you see in your income report will be taxed as dividend income, BUT the Amit statement sorts out how much of that ETF income is dividends and how much of it is Capital gains/losses (yes capital gains/losses...you may have not sold any of your ETF but the fund in itself may have bought and sold)...and navexa moves the dollar amounts into the correct sections for you to report in your tax return. Which means it will move dollar amounts from your income section to your Capital gains or losses section. Plus also allowing for franking, amit excess and amit shortfalls. Once you do it once, you will never need a tax accountant again lol

    • @ultimobile
      @ultimobile 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @chris-vw2nb
      @chris-vw2nb 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ultimobile not at all, in navexa under your income report, your income values will change as you enter your AMIT statement for each ETF. As it sorts out dividends from captial gains and makes shortfall and excess adjustments. If you choose not to enter your statement then your not correctly assessing your income. for example before your amit input, you may have a total ETF income as $8000, but once you enter all your amit statements you might find the income value reduces to $2000 as the other $6000 has been reallocated to capital gains and will show up in your capital gains report.

    This is a great video, but ive got a couple of questions about it: 1. In 2024, we need to do these calculations manually? Shouldn't this be all automatic? 2. Does this matter at all until you sell ETFs? If you ate just buying them, does it matter? Does it affect dividends?

    • @navexa-tracker
      @navexa-tracker 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1) Yes this is up to you to keep track of, as you get to decide on the CGT strategy you use, like FIFO or LIFO etc. So the ATO won't/can't keep track of these adjustments as you tell them the CGT. 1b) It is automatic if you use Navexa to keep track of everything. 2) Technically it doesn't matter until you sell. But if you are not keeping track and then sell in 10 years time, you'd have to go and back calculate everything for the last 10 years. Which becomes a real mess if you've been buying more in the meantime.

    Great video! Thank you! I'm new to ETF investing after many, many years of single stock trading. I must admin, tax time this year was somewhat disappointing and confusing for me dealing with distributions instead of dividends which has turned me off ETFs to a degree. As a result, I did in fact improve and stream line my record keeping overall. I have a collection of online calculators I use to calculate average cost, track capital growth and dividend yield etc. I actually enjoy spending part of my weekends working this out as trading has been a long time hobby for me but I'd imagine this is not the usual. Thanks again for this video, I look forward to exploring more of your content :)

      You can view the CGT for individual shares if you like. You can also set a CGT strategy for an individual share too.

    Like the Navexa program platform but had issues understanding how to fix errors identified using manual adjustment.
