How good are Beholders and Evil Eyes in Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Horn of the Abyss expansion (Homm3 HotA)? Let's find out!
In this video, I also try a more granular scoring system. The old one is kept along as well for the sake of consistency. Feel free to comment what you think of the new system :)

The unit tested will face six trials:
- Castle Attack
- Battle vs. A Horde
- Battle vs. Elite
- Battle vs. Missile Units
- Battle vs. Army
- Castle Defense
They will score points from these, as well as from abilities in campaign map, construction chain costs and from the army costs. The army is determined by 20 weeks of growth. The tested units will be controlled by human, and tactics can be used.

    One comment - 10:08 it's better to attack Minotaurs rather than Manticores - Minotaurs are easier to kill and deal more damage than manticores. What's more, manticores go next, taking retaliation with only 1 unit - that's a waste. I've seen this many times before so I decided to share my point of view. Evil eyes did pretty well in that fight though

    In the castle attack, could the results be considered skewed because it takes place on the Beholder and Evil Eye's native terrain?

      Thanks for the very good question. I was thinking it (as with other Dungeon units as well). However, changing the Town would have ridden the defenders their bonus as well. So I guess in the less granular scale, it should not matter, but perhaps there is a slight advantage on the more granular scoring :)

    The uh. The AI ignored the Beholder to attack the catapult? Hilarious. Wouldn't have made a difference, though. I've always liked Beholders/Evil Eyes. They're such a neat concept.

      Thanks for the very good question. It seems I confused it with vs. Army etc. and put the vs. Army there and did not edit the vs. army. The right score in this case is 2/8 and 13/80 :)

    Thanks for the heads-up @georgistoyanov. The Stormbirds got 1 point too many from Castle Defense. The proper overall score is 39. This has will be fixed in the score boards of future videos :)

    I think you gave the unupgraded version 1 point too much. In the Castle defense you had 18/80 and at the same time 3/8...I am pretty sure it's supposed to be 2/8. (If not, sorry for bothering u. At least +1 comment for the algorithm :D )

      @@qualityoldhomm-rd3yu Halflings are fantastic from the look of it, but good got it back in tier 2 with their crossbowmen. But I can't say i was shocked. I definitely wasn't shocked with tier 6 and 7 though. Goodness me, but Good Tier 6 is horrifyingly powerful in comparison! 7 Though... hah.

    Tier 6 depends largely on what spell the Enchanters cast. If they had cast mass slow like in your first video, it would've been a victory for the Neutrals.

      I think that video, that battle takes place in the wasteland, is also quite illustrative, especially when paired with this. It is clearly visible how the bonus from the native landscape affects the course of the battle.

    In WoG Fireball deals more damage - Spell Power x 15 +15/45/90. Precision is a first level spell and costs less mana (5/4).

    Not sure how effective these battles are when its computer. It does some really stupid things that undermine the test. Not using the genies to cast spells in fireball but in precision was weird. Think these need to be player vs computer

    Very very nice change. I would love to see only one change in all those tests. Master genies instead of diamond golems and silver pegasi instead of Magies in fight vs spellcasters. Can explain why, but maybe it is obvious.

    I was keeping my fingers crossed for another Rust Dragon to go, and when I saw it was 3 Hp I knew the power of maths, and the Creator of this 😅 Flying in&out style, harpy hag one is suprisingly very effective. To maximize the worth try to go all in after removing minotaurs, not touching troglodytes at all - then you should receive less tower arrows. Then I saw other battles ! That's another good piece of masterpiece 😎

    Titans really are just quite good. Though, this also emphasizes how good flying is when attacking a settlement. Ayssids also did well against Elite due to the double attack, and this time the Titans just couldn't manage.

    Sorry but this town is insanely broken. Haspids are on the top of your list; nixes aren't, but they are best end game and it wasn't expressed here; sorceresses are fine; as you shown, assyds are so broken; pirates are between great and broken; seamen are really solid for their tier and the nymph are fast tier 1 which is awesome. There is not an effing weak link.

      Try to mantain enough ayssids in the late game. AI is quite focused on them and they die a lot

      Thanks for the comment. Yea, it seems that Ayssids are quite clearly the best T4 (VLs come relatively close but then again they are quite a bit carrying Necro) :)

    Those T6 matches are the most embarrassing combats I've ever seen, ma god. Oh! And Phoenix are ridiculous, but we all know that P.D. Hail to Iron/Stone Golems!

      Yea, the AI does some weird stuff. And those golems have been consistently performing rather well. They just have to get into the battle :) Thanks for the comment.

    I know it's the AI, but it's kinda heartbreaking to see the enemy go for the correct strat (first battle Pit Fiends (siege)) but then randomly give it up and lose. If they'd just flown away with the red dragon afer killing the catapult, it's a deterministic win.

    I didn't realize just how powerful some of those tier 1 neutrals are, or rather, how cheap. The Basilisk and Medusa fights were quite amusing. Ho ho ho. Tier 6 looked like it would go poorly for Neutral, until it became clear that there was one faction there with a unit able to absolutely embarrass the others. As for tier 7... as good as devil bad luck and such is, it simply isn't enough to defeat the inevitable. Harpy Hags just can't carry enough on their own, I suppose. Tier 5 is just embarrassingly one sided, though that's not what Mighty Gorgons are for, I suppose. That last Tier-6 battle was sad. They almost managed to make it work again, but Cyclopses are worthless and the Wyverns only okay (and not hitting foes they could poison all the time). In fact, if the Dread Knights (showing their great quality) hadn't gotten lucky a couple times, it might have been enough. I mean, c'mon, Efreets, Death/Dread Knights, and Manticores are all some of the best tier 6 units, and Cyclopes might be legitimately the worst (they never got to throw a single boulder the whole time, I think) with Wyverns being nice but not great. But tier 6 wasn't as sad as tier 7. Oh Evil tried, they tried so hard, but it did them no good in the end.

    Lvl 6 fights were odd. Neutral won when Evil was first and lost when Evil was second.

      Thanks for the comment. Imo it is because of AI control. Imo, it tends to yolo-charge the fastest unit first which allows the opponent to gang up on it and thus gain advantage :)

    The way how Psyhical Elementals carried first time lvl 6 tier was insane ^^ Cerberi did great job aswell, a little surprising win, but that was tight :) Great video as always, cheers bro ! :)

    In WoG - Demons get advanced protection from fire, fear immunity, 30% chance to block 70% dmg and 50% to deal double damage (like Dread Knights). Horned Demons get all the above abilites and +5 HP, +1 max dmg for 20 gold

    In WoG - both have their weekly growth made bigger by one, Hell Hounds have advanced protection from fire, fear immunity, +50% dmg to Griffins and attack twice, Cerberi - advanced protection from fire, fear immunity, +50% dmg to Royal Griffins, three retaliations per turn and 50% to cast expert disease after attacking

    In WoG - Gogs +2 life, + 1 def, + 10 gold, have basic protection from fire, no distance penalty and attack twice, Magogs + 2 HP, +1 def and +1 Max dmg for the same price, basic protection from fire, no distance penalty, -1 to enemy luck, no retaliation, +50% dmg to Angels, teleport (like Devils) and have a 50% chance to cast fireball before attacking (basically a chance to attack twice)
