Art Murmur x Guftgu | Navigating Global Audiences
Art South Asia Project (ASAP) and Offset Projects were pleased to host the third and final talk of Art Murmur x Guftgu programme, “Navigating Global Audiences” on Thursday 12th December on Zoom. Saira Ansari (Misk Art Institute, Riyadh) and Sarasija Subramanian (Reliable Copy, India) talking about the challenges in the dissemination of art and artists' books from South Asia.
The talk addressed issues and challenges in the distribution of regionally produced printed matter and the possibilities for making local contexts resonate internationally.
Art South Asia Projects and Offset Projects are excited to present Art Murmur x Guftgu, a dynamic programme offering an in-depth understanding of the last two decades of movements in art and art book publishing across South Asia.
The series will continue to explore the evolution of these practices and the global afterlives of publications, with discussions on publishing shfts, artists' books, editing, writing and reaching global audiences through e-book publication that will soon be available on ASAP and Offset Project's websites.
About the Speakers:
Saira Ansari // writer, researcher, editor // stories, art history, sci-fi, grief, trees, rebels, publishing. She is also the Director of Research and Publication at Misk Art Institute, Riyadh. Ansari has collaborated with artists and institutions across South Asia, Iran, and the Middle East, contributing to publications, curating exhibitions, and co-organizing Sharjah Art Foundation’s Focal Point art book fair (2018-2020). Her editorial work includes Bani Abidi: The Artist Who (Hatje Cantz) and long-form essays on Lala Rukh and Fahd Burki, among others. Her research focuses on Pakistani modernist Zubeida Agha, with the latest work published by the Giacometti Foundation, Paris (2024).
Sarasija Subramanian is an artist based in Bangalore, India, where she is also the editor of Reliable Copy, a publishing house and curatorial practice for works, projects, and writing by artists. Reliable Copy was founded in 2018, and publishes books and documents, curates exhibitions and screenings, undertakes research projects, and hosts a wide variety of public programming. It is represented by the artists Nihaal Faizal and Sarasija Subramanian.
