Creating a scale replica of a custom car - Porsche 986 diecast
มุมมอง 20023 วันที่ผ่านมา
The good the bad and the ugly of my first attempt to make a custom replica of my Porsche 986 Boxster, trying to match the wheels, body kit, spoiler and lights Not all went to plan, lessons where learnt and this will not be the last one of these I do, if you have a custom looking car and would be interested get in touch as I want to do many more Note I had little experience in this sort of thing...
Subscribe to see the project hopefully in the next day or two!

Great video I have a 2004 s which after over 130 cars is my fave IMS flywheel and clutch done Bilstein OEM done OEM Brembo discs and pads done Two new cats 4 new lambdas New Michelin PS5’s Never known handling like it on Scottish roads 🙏🏴
One of the best mods I did was to install 997 seats. Gave a bit more comfort and leg room, bit lower down too. The seats were from a 997.2, dunno if different from the 1st generation.
@@gotoylc good idea for taller people!
Thanks for putting this together, I’m in the process of getting my 986 ready for winter storage! Perfect excuse to get in there one more time and save a load of headaches down the road!

What a terrible design from E car makers, classic over engineering just because
Porsche put a jump spot in the fuse box for this but not everytime can you get another battery to use it!
Not a single help? Lol
Loving the video mate, you come across very informative can see you helping a lot of people with their special Porsche.
@@LoneWolffTravels thanks man, it's a way of extending the hobby also, but video making is clearly new to me lol
😂😂😂😂
@@craigo9561 oddly proud of this
🔥🔥🔥
Practical enough for me
I will be lightly suggesting the OBD dongle to your cousin for my stocking this Christmas!
I don't know if you use ios but the torque pro app defo works well on android, worth the money
2 fast 2 furious vibes
How much did the lights set you back? Like them
rear lights approx 350, the side indicators about 80 quid, nothing crazy
I'd give you a go in my 106 I think, but then I'd remember I'm in a 106 and you're in a 986 😂
It's not slow, but it's not fast, certainly for a Porsche, but.... Could you change the bulb faster .... And shouldn't you guys be asleep? 😂
I do like the Blue / Black combo! Wish this video had been posted a few years back. I had a fight with a 986 a few years ago, the alarm was going crazy but the car was about dead so couldn't open the bonnet and couldn't understand why the charger with the car wouldn't open the bonnet! Agree with the best drivers car for the money, favourite car I've ever driven!
Cheers Josh, I remember seeing your vid on it (assuming same one) and pretty sure I text Lilly to see if you wanted a race or something lol
Very enjoyable watch. Galvanic corrosion is something my Dad's mentioned years ago but I've never heard it mentioned since! Some set up you've got, I think my tool set finishes around the axle stands 😂 Electrical tape tip is great for a rough worker like me with fat fingers!
@@JoshMcCallion work with what you got, made a few learnings to combat living with being clumsy lol
I just do it like the real mechanics. Put my bolt in the airgun hold the wheel in front and tighten that so hard no one ever gets it loose by hand. All while ruining the thread😅😂 Oh and i may or may not put on a whole lot of Loctite
Useless
Have never seen them before, many thanks.
Lmao so you put a bolt in to hold the wheel on?
Or just install wheel studs and use lug nuts... you're welcome
I just put the wheel on my footsies and guide in it easy.
@@danielbrowniel I used to, but if the spacers shift slightly the holes move lol. And I'm old now and my back hurts, the sooner I can not be holding the weight of the wheel the better h
Same here! I havent done heavy big 5 bolt wheels in a while though, been enjoying the older german cars for a bit now :]
@@laneheideman2756 I might do that next, I am tired of being responsible and getting camry after camry
@@danielbrowniel Hard to beat the reliability of prime 90s and 2000s toyota
Only fuck tards use wheel bolts. Get wheel lugs instead. You 5 wheel pins built in.
Well, i have 5 of those, per wheel, built in.
Im going to make one of these. Awesome!
@@keithsmigle4875 find it a bit of a back saver with heavy wheels as well!
Simple fix, live in America and almost all the cars have wheel studs and lug nuts
@@xaqman23 doesn't need fixing, isn't broken, this just helps as wheels can be heavy (and spacers can move around!). Do Porsches in America have studs instead? Didn't realise this was a bit of a weird way to have wheel set ups!
@@Grantysgarageseems like a non logical way to have them, if you ask me. Studs seem a whole lot easier. Idk wtf you wouldn't have studs, they hold it while you install the nuts. Seems to be the purpose of doing it that way.
@Sublime_1 I agree, looks like most likely a manufacturing cost theme but as much as I'd like to be involved, I wasn't in designing this one lol
Lived in America all my life, worked on dozens of different cars and never changed a tire that had wheel studs. Not almost all sir, not even close. Studs are for those individuals that lack the capabilities to find the hole 😉
@@Sublime_1I agree but I gather it's a manufacturing cost thing???
Make your own easy
@@ROCKENSTIENCUSTOMZ big fan of making my own tools/gadgets but when one comes with the car tool kit ... Lol
Seems useless
@@constructionfails1433 he is but the pins pretty helpful
Uh. Yeah no. That’s a waste of time if you are paid by the hour
The UK is backwards af.
This doesn't scratch the surface my friend but that's not a convo for TH-cam short comments lol
Must be german only they make something simple more complicated becasue its "better"
@@jimmyboe25 correct, it is German
@@jimmyboe25 feel like I should show you what they supply which is ultimately a 5mm socket 😂
The wheels should sit on the hub and aligning the bolt holes is easy. Get hub centric rings if your wheels don't fit right.
@@BookAutowerks they are hub centric and the spacer also is, the pin takes the weight of the wheel to make putting it on easier and freeing up a hand to put bolts in with
@@Grantysgarage just use your third leg to stabilize the wheel 🙃
But I'm already using that to hold the car up 😂
The little thing.
@@leeduncan6595 that's me....
Just install studs brother
Have thought about it, like the idea of that and having one of those deeeeeep sockets on the wrench that can hold all five, Porsche supplies the car like this and with the pin
Nah. The bolts are honestly better
@DarkAttack14 as a euro mechanic that owns Nissans I can tell you with confidence studs are better.
@mikahonigmann thanks!
Or u know... don't buy euro vehicles.
The Japanese car I had was like this also... Is studs an American thing?
@Grantysgarage the only cars in America that I know of that have lug bolts are euro or a colab with a euro car maker like fiat and chrysler.
@@fairlaneboy66 thanks! Wonder what the reasoning is on differing, hopefully other than cost!
Wow Wow OMG🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🙀🙀🙀💯💯💯

That's probably how you spelled it when you were 9 🤷🏼

With adding these modern lights to older cars do you need any extra adaptations to make them compatible?
@@Bree-TT the underbodies? No, but did piggy back them into a circuit so can only have power with accessories (was a suspect drain prior) and decided i wanted a light up switch which I had to figure out how to also power, will do a vid on it soon, really easy though
@Grantysgarage my bad I meant your led indicators etc. Keep seeing people ditch old bulbs and swap to the leds and chaser leds but that's u charted territory to me.
@@Bree-TT not on this car, think it's old enough not to be that smart, if you find some you want to check they are canbus clear/free (some newer cars get upset with led units because there is not enough resistance compared to a normal bulb) but most just have resistors built in now
Clear and precise! Thank you!
