    If I were doing that job after installing OSB sheeting I would have installed some waterproof sheeting 6''/8'' up the OBS and sealed it onto the protruding concrete before installing the siding.as well as the vertical wall corners.

    There is definitely a better practice method for water proofing that room. But I really appreciate this video because it gave me a solution for a room I have very similar to the back of this house with the patio and everything. So happy to see I don’t have to tear the whole thing down. 🫡Thanks for sharing.

    I've got a shed I inherited with the house I purchased that looks just like this . I will either do hardiplank exterior or two layers of cinder block to keep it out of the snow and slush or possibly stucco finish. The doors need rebuild anyway. With cinder blocks they'll be a foot taller. Not that difficult. Even I can do it and I'm not a woodworker.

    Why replace the lower part of the OSB but full length of the studs? Also wonder if not better to seal all of the new OSB before attaching? Would it be acceptable to paint seal the whole wall then not use wrap?

    Own is garbage. Probably faired better with a 2 inch plastic board at the bottom edge where concrete and wood meet

    If the water is literally shediing onto the plate. Just build a small like shed roof style cricket on the bottems of the wall that extend out past the concrete and then it may look strange but the home will have a skirt that sheds the water away from the house.

    I am so confused. All I am told is to use pressure treated wood or Hardie board for such a thing. OSB is such an odd choice for concrete contact. The wrap isn't tucked under the OSB. But you used that marine waterproofing. Ugh. So many opinions on how to do stuff. I am lost.

    I'm dealing with an issue where a roofer cut in to my OSB while flashing my chimney. They left holes in it and blade marks across the OSB. From what I can tell, my OSB could turn out like the bottom of this shed over time! Do you think if your OSB on your chimney was exposed around the bottom it could cause the chimney to collapse or cause other major issues?

    • @malirk
      @malirk 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The OSB was literally exposed in many spots. I went up on the roof during a storm (Not advised) and could see the water hitting the OSB and going around holes/blade marks.

    At the 9:37 mark of your video you mentioned that you were about to put on the Tyvek wrap, but instead of using Tyvek wrap you used a cheaper, lesser quality wrap called everbilt. Why'd you do that?

    • @kmremodeling6923
      @kmremodeling6923 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @cma8165 The simple answer is I call all house wrap tyvek out of habit. It's like calling an adjustable wrench a Cresent wrench. But to be clear, the quality isn't diminished by the brand name.

      @@kmremodeling6923 That's what I used to think until last Saturday, when I saw a TH-cam video of a contractor who tested both Tyvek and Everbilt and proved that Everbilt allows water to go through when Tyvek does not.

    Seems like there is a need to address the issue as to where is the water coming from and why. Perhaps there needs to be a french drain installed to drain water away from the shed. Water is the enemy of any building. Proper slope and drainage is a must. Too often water control is an after thought. It needs to be addressed up front.

    This is exactly what I need to do. I have a shed/pump house that has rotted OSB in the lower 18” of at least one wall. I am in process of removing that lovely vinyl siding so I can cut out the bad OSB. Can you tell me what you used for your aquatic membrane or seal? Also would it be wise to put something on the bottom edge of the OSB to prevent it from wicking up all that moisture in the future? Thanks and all the best from north Texas.

    Would have made a huge difference if you had put down a water shield under the new bottom plate. 😮

  • @TheSpatulaCity
    @TheSpatulaCity 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Probably need to grind down the edges of the slab to let the water to flow away. Grade the concrete. 3:56 Also, need to apply some sill sealer foam to the underside of the bottom plate to prevent wet concrete wicking moisture into the wood.
