SILY 615 Seizing the Incredible
When we face uncertain times, we are wise when we tap into the experience of others who have walked down the road before. We have to face our fears and move forward. Once we make that decision to move forward, it’s best if we have a friend and confidant to hold us by the hand and carry us through. We don’t need to go through those experiences alone, and we’re much better off when we have that trusted friend to support us along the winding path that gets us to our destination.

SILY 614 Professing Your Faith
มุมมอง 21วันที่ผ่านมา
In case you’re wondering if there was a time in my life when I was a pastor that I’ve not shared with you before, I have not. In fact, I have never been in full time ministry. With an episode title of Professing Your Faith, you might think that this episode is about how to tell other people about Jesus. Whether you think that episode topic is a good one or not, that’s not where I’m going today....

Back in episode 597 I mentioned that I sold my beloved 1972 MGB GT. For those of you who have followed me on social media for a while, you may have seen me first mention that I sold it back in February of this year, and a few days later I first mentioned that I’d actually purchased its replacement last October, fixed that car up, and had been driving it ever since. So WHY did I sell my dream ca...

I think we’ve all been in a situation where either we as kids or when we were older with kids of our own ran into someone that we hadn’t seen in a while. Maybe it was a family member at a reunion or perhaps it was an old friend at the grocery store. Either way, that person looks at the kid and is surprised at how much they’ve grown. Even us as parents can have this experience with our own kids ...

Okay let me be real with you. When I put together an episode, I start with a moment from my life that has impacted me in some way. In the process of impacting me, I can typically look at it and see a clear, big lesson. This story is not like that. It’s obvious that the story I’ve shared with you today has impacted me in a deep, emotional way. But what is the clear, big lesson? I’m not sure. How...

For today’s episode, let’s think about the disciples. If you were to gather up 12 of your friends for a meal, you can imagine the different characteristics and personality types that would be represented around that table. I appreciated the compliment on my work, but the whole situation just made me feel even more ...

Great point. I recently visited my company head quarters in MO. It's so beautiful there with great fishing and immaculate crystal clear rivers/ streams. But I was so tired from work physically and mentally with all the new information I was trying to soak in. I pretty much went straight to bed after work for almost a full week. Sad but maybe next time I'll be able to take in the beauty

I stumbled upon this while scrolling through my suggestions, and the title caught my attention. Your story was so sweet, I was actually tearing up here at work. I was an older fan, so I was in my senior year of high school when they exploded on the scene. I absolutely loved them: recorded the songs every time they came on the radio, watched every interview, etc....(I actually still have a recording of one of the radio commercials for the MagiCan!) My friends and I lip-synced to My Favorite Girl at our talent show, we took a limo to one of their shows, we went HARD! I endured a lot of teasing from classmates (mostly the guys) and a bunch of them even made little snarky comments when they signed my senior yearbook, but I didn't care. I loved the New Kids. Fast forward to their reunion....I was elated! Ironically, one of the guys who teased me the most about liking the New Kids is now one of the people who's always Facebooking me mentioning them, and sending me "Happy Birthday" on my birthday. But one of the best parts is: I went to a show Jordan did with Nick Carter, and the next morning, he had a brunch where he signed autographs and stuff. I brought my yearbook with me, and showed him where one of my friends had wrote: "maybe one day your dreams will come true and you'll meet NKOTB." Jordan actually signed my yearbook right by that, saying, "Dreams do come true!" They're just the sweetest guys and so humble and loving to their fans. I'm so happy you were able to see them since their reunion, and hope you can go to a show this summer. I'm going to see them on my birthday and managed to get front row center, so I'm HELLA STOKED!! BLOCKHEAD FOR LIFE!!!

Ha ha ya know what Darrell? I was the kid in high school that hated New Kids when they came out simply because they stole all the girls attention and I was jealous! But secretly I liked the music. As of this writing I currently have their new album "Still Kids" in my car playing the first release "Kids" on repeat. Man I LOVE that song. It's so catchy, fun and full of life. It really sinks in the lesson if never having to grow up, keep playing, keep being a kid no matter how old you are. That's all there is to life. Everything else will be fine. Side note, if you have never seen their videos for Remix or Bring Back the Time, I urge you to go watch them NOW. Two absolutely amazing songs and videos!

I'm going to my first NKOTB concert this summer in Dallas, ate age 45. My date? My 14 year old bonus daughter. I've been embarrassed that I feel like I've fallen down the rabbit hole of wanting to relive my childhood. Maybe that's partly true- but it's also bc I simply like who they've become. I like the new music, I like the charisma and that they seem genuinely humbled to be accepted back into the music fold. I will remember this concert for a long time to come.

I had SOME similar experiences to you growing up, but I never allowed myself to be shamed into hiding my love for NKOTB, and my family very much supported my fandom. Even after most of my NKOTB memorabilia was gone or in storage, I always kept a Jordan magnet on the radiator by my bed until I moved in 2013 and it got lost in the move. But I still have my old NKOTB poster in a tote in the attic, and a book with the entire trading card collection on a shelf in my room. I never got to go to a NKOTB concert either, but only because my family couldn't afford it. BUT it turns out my mom loves NKOTB too (She even watches Donnie on Blue Bloods and Jon on HGTV), and today I finally bought tickets for the Magic Summer 2024 concert, and this August I am finally taking my 73 year old mother to see them live for her very first concert (of any kind) ever! I even ordered us both NKOTB t-shirts to wear. It's so exciting!

Thank you for entering into this type of discussion. Indeed there are many who do not recognize allegory, metaphor and parable. The Bible can be challenging, especially in the times we live in. As difficult as it may be, I recognize value in it. 2 Timothy 3:16 King James Version (KJV) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness... Even those verses that cause many to cringe and recoil, because it shows us how differently we all process our reality..

Hi and thanks for the video. As a want to be Christian I wanted to take you up on your offer to discuss context on a troubling Bible verse. I want to be clear that I am being very honest here. There are many verses that are difficult for me and have caused great division in my family. I have listed a few and would greatly appreciate a response. Thank you in advance. Exodus 35:2 Six days work shall be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death. Matthew 10:34 Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, and a man's enemies will be the members of his own household. He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me." Psalm 137:9 Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones. Deuteronomy 32:42 I will make mine arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh; and that with the blood of the slain and of the captives, from the beginning of revenges upon the enemy. Luke 19:27 But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.’

I really hope not! If you take the bible literally the you have to believe woman came from a dudes rib, there was a worldwide flood, the earth is 6000 years old, can’t eat shellfish, people lived to 600+ years, slavery is ok and my favorite… we can all scapegoat all our wrongs on to another. The bible and other ancient religions are no more than what they were intended to be, man’s first attempt to explain the world around us.
