How To Test Sterling 925 Silver Jewelry at Home With Ice Test (vs. Brass, Iron, Stainless Steel)
#DonGilded #silver
In this video, I'll demonstrate a simple and quick method to test whether your jewelry is made of silver using nothing but an ice cube. This technique is perfect for those moments when you don’t have professional tools handy but want a basic idea of what you’re working with. Silver is known for its high thermal conductivity, which means it transfers heat faster than most other metals. I'll be comparing how an ice cube reacts when placed under a silver ring versus an iron ring. If you’re curious about your jewelry, join me for this experiment to see how silver's unique properties come into play. Remember, for the most accurate results, it’s always best to consult a professional jeweler. Let’s dive in and see what happens!

It's important to scratch just enough to get beneath the surface layer, revealing wha...

I run the magnet across various jewelry pieces to see what ...

I did this but used a small torch lighter, it turned a bright red, it didn't turn all black either, dropped it in water and it simply cooled down, no damage done.....would that mean it's real?
About some silver teapot from Rogers, is that real?
Send a photo?
Show me the marking? To get a better idea

Diamonds are brittle. I would not do this. Do the breath test😅
planning on trying it out next! that and the scratch test
@@DonGilded Definitely!
I will try it
Thanks for the awesome video! Your explanation was super clear and helpful. I’m definitely going to try this at home. Can’t wait to see the results!
You have to wonder how many people have destroyed their diamonds doing this. All it would take is a small air bubble within the diamond, expanding from the heat, to give you an exploded diamond.
@@LostWithoutHer show me please? How they explode
Looks like pure silver
very close!
My gal recently bought a Gold bangle bracelet, she had a guy look at it and he said it was Brass. I tested it with my magnet and it passed that test. Then i tested it with my Gold test kit, it tested out at 18k. My question is how do i test it for Brass?? Thanks
Is this an acid test kit?
@@DonGilded Yes, I recently bought a Test kit and tested myself, to say I'm a novice would be an understatement. That's why I was asking about a way to test for Brass
@@slimsherman5818 wear some gloves and put some 14k acid over top the piece carefully not to get any on your eyes or skin, if it starts to bubble and turn green that is the reaction with copper which mean it most likely is brass
Vinegar is not proven sir❤
I know that brother but unless you have access to expensive equipment this is a free way for people to try
I would be very cautious and careful. Diamonds are carbon based and can infact catch fire and burn, leaving you with a pile of ash!
I have the miami cuban link and came out the same, thanks
Brass also leaves black spot
Obrigado AVANCO SOCIAL por me ajudar a ter mais seguidores no instagram e tiktok
What about gold plated? This test still accurate?
I depends on the gold plate what’s the marking on it?
@@DonGilded says 14 K and 585
@@DonGilded also has a PJ stamp on the other end of the clasp
@@lorenzo2534 not marked for gold plated you would see something like 1/20, or GP, EP, GF. It could possibly still be solid gold
@GildedBlanco definitely no plated marks I appreciate your response. I have taken it to two jewlers and they both confirmed it was real gold solid. But they have no idea what the PJ stamp is
Silver test are much simple. Base on its physical properties. No need these troubles.
what would you suggest I try?
Toothpaste??? 🤣🤣🤣

Where is the fake gold for comparisson
didnt have any on me at the time, but I will come back and revisit this

What about silver gold
There’s other test that can be done for silver
Hi, I bought a s925 silve with Rhodium plated. is this Rhodium plated still good with bleech test? magnetic test passed on this.
If it’s sterling silver it should be good
The Roddium plating shouldn’t affect it’s composition too much and should only help look better if that what you like(the white kinda silver)
What lighter is that?
It’s an old DuPont
What lighter is that?
Old DuPont
thank you very much what happens if we apply 18k test solution to 14k gold
If it’s copper it might turn green, 18k acid will also change the color of silver
@@DonGilded thank you very much 🙏🏻😊
Very insightful!
This is very helpful
Brass also non magnetic meterial
You have to expose the base metals. The vinegar really struggles to penetrate the gold layer. File a tiny spot next time.
Only do this if you dont want to sell the coin it will scratch the coin!
well now i'm thinking that Gold necklace the EX gave me aint ugly looking,,but if itz fake it will be after a vinegar bath. Better just trade it at the Bar for Pizza n beer
pizza n beer is pizza n beer!
That´s a very stupid and absolutely unreliable way to test an item if is goldplated or solid gold! There are many ways to make an item look golden. Some of them will leave a stain on a towel. Rub your towel with toothpaste on your unwashed hands. You will see a stain too. Take your item to a professional juweler and they can tell you within minutes if the surface of your item is gold or not.
agreed! this is just for someone who is curious about their jewellery and doesn't have access or wants to got to a jeweller, but like you said a professional is always recommended to be absolutely certain!
Brass, copper, aluminum and silver will leave a black stain as well.
@@duanes3354most gold jewelry pieces are made with the metals you mentioned.
@@DonGildedIt will be stupid until you see a professional do it huh?? It’s actually helpful and pretty cool

Heyy bro. I have 1883 Indian Victoria coin you want to purchase it?
how much you want?
This type of cleaning fucks up the surface of the coin which can easily be seen under a microscope. Your best bet is dipping the coins in silver drip if you want to restore the luster on gradeable coins in a natural way without the coins being graded as CLEANED.
Have you done it before I wanna give it a try but have no experience with it? Like I mentioned if you’re looking to grade the coins I wouldn’t advise it
@@DonGilded Thanks for mentioning it. Silver dip is real easy, just don't touch the solution to your skin, wear gloves and stick the silver coin in there, stick it in there or swish it around for up to a minute or two and the tarnish silver oxide layer should convert back to the metal form (technically speaking). There is also the baking soda, boiling water and foil method (without rubbing) which will do non abrasive cleaning. Silver dip is probably a better bet to restore luster for grading, since they're a bit more lenient with it.
It's a reaction between the silver and tin foil. Literally no affect to the coin like scrubbing or dipping.
Nice information in this vedio I like it from India
thank you!
Thanks,very nice
So I just sold my 2 1921 Morgan dollars mixed with a 64 Kennedy fifty cent and others, all for a whopping $30
If silver don't tarnish black it aint REAL!!!!
Brutal English.
Can you say that again but like a normal person
Silver naturally turns black as it tarnishes So if the tarnish is not black it aint real silver!!!
@@nick2000720 Evidently not.
Not entirely true it could be dipped in rodium I believe
Great.... YT's suggestions hide the screen at the end so you can't see a thing..

No, these test is not work. Specially, the bleach and plus the magnet test yes if it’s still it will pick it up but there is some stuff out there will not pick up is fake.
Yes, to be 100% certain visit a professional
