    I thought referrals were leads that your clients give you. Isn't this more in line with testimonials and references?

      Yes, referrals are most often leads you get from your clients. And, ideally, they are "warm" leads, which means that your clients have said something "good" about you. They might say that you have excellent service. Or that you're available any time of the day or night. Or that you never raise your rates. Or that they can always call your cell phone. The point is, you have no control over what they say about you, but it creates expectations that may be different from your brand or standard operating procedures. You might have a program of educating your clients on what to say when they refer you, but most companies do not have such a program.
