Good point! The gains from Robocopy can be offset by manual inefficiencies like address entry. It’d be interesting to test larger files side by side, especially considering how Linux often handles hardware differently from Windows. Thanks for the insight!

An OS can't change physics, that is a given. Don't sell robocopy short, it is MS's attempt to get the most out of a file copy utility. If you want to get the absolute most out of the copy operation use "/J :: copy using unbuffered I/O (recommended for large files)." This is direct write IO (skipping windows buffering (cache) code). Typically, you script robocopy (a repeatable job), you don't key it in the CMD/PS terminal. Script it, create a short cut, double click when needed to run.

@@WindowPioneers Your right. I tested a 4GB file and found your method to be 16 seconds faster. 2min 59sec compared to 3 mins 15 seconds. Or about the same time if you include typing and pasting into command line.

What’s an MT?

MT stands for Multi-Threading in Robocopy. It allows you to specify the number of threads Robocopy will use when copying files. By default, Robocopy uses a single thread, meaning it copies one file at a time. With the MT: parameter, you can run multiple threads in parallel, which can speed up the copying process when you're dealing with large amounts of data and fast storage devices like SSDs or NVMes. For example, MT:2 would use two threads.

I have a simple Batch file (rc.bat) that includes one line: robocopy *.* y: z: /MT:16 /e /A-:SH /r:1 /w:5 /DCOPY:DT /COPYALL /LOG+:"z:\RC_Error.Log" I use the SUBST command to establish the y: drive (source) and the z: drive (destination), then run the batch file. The MT:16 keeps the mechanical drive at 100%. (My CPU is 8 core, 16 threads.) Edit: after the robocopy, I have star-dot-star. It doesn't show properly for me, here.

@@WindowPioneers No it will not. The iPad Pro M2 was released in 2022. Only the 2024 model iPads work with Pencil pro
