Sugar House Rum - Blood Tub (quality UK aged rum) - NWRumClub RUM360_#10
#UK #SugarHouseRum #BloodTub
Blood Tub Rum is the first aged release from The Sugar House Rum company. Distilled in 2018, bottled in January 2021 then left to rest in vat for a further 6 months before being released in July 2021 - only 61 bottles were produced from the smaller Bood Tub sized virgin oak barrel and presented in a very attractive way at 56.4% abv.
This rum was sensibly priced at £75 and flew off the shelves so apologies for all those searching for it, you're only likely to find it in auction sites and swaps. This is a tasty drop and one that demonstrates that there is quality rum being distilled in the UK that competes with other distilleries from around the globe. The pot distilled white rum is now my staple mixer, the scotch bonnet rum is one I'll treat myself too when I want to add some personality into a cocktail and I'll be keeping an eye out for any new aged rums coming from Sugar House Rum Company as this was one I very much enjoyed.

#hampdenEstate #8yo #Jamaica In summary, this is one of the best Jamican rums for the price on the market today. At £55, this tropically aged 8yo from Hampden Estate distillery is a great introduction to Jamaican funk rum without it blowing you away. With an OWH mark (Ester levels of 40-80 gphl), this is the least funky of the Hampden range but still funky enough for many people to feel like it...

Is it better than ron santiago 11 year old
I have tried the real McCoy and so far it’s my favorite but the crooked bottle I have only tried the entry level one and I will find the next step up . I have never tried the four square ones yet but soon the hunt is on 😂 🍹
Where can I get the old version.
They are all AWESOME, buddy!👍👍👍
Hello! Just subscribed. Perfect detailed description! Best regards from Moscow, Russia. Cheers!🤝🥃
Discovered recently that my wife is a distant relative of Dermot Owen Kelly! And I Love funky rum. What a world.
Best intelligent review out there !
I saw what I thought was the new version of the Eldorado 15 the other day but on the label it said 40% ABV not 43%. All other markings were consistent with what you showed. Is there a confusion in the labeling? Thanks for your channel!
Thank you for this decent video , would you be able to share some good rums that do not have any added sugar? Cheers.
15 brilliant I had 12 years ago was too sweet then found out no sugar in new ones and can say it's brilliant
something am going to try
u need to make more videos brilliant at doing rum videos
might after try problem I had with the plantation rums I had is I found them too sweet
probably best reviewing videos I seen on rum and English man as well dam shame if u given up making videos
be a shame if u stopped making videos they all been very good
have u stopped making videos ???
I’m brand new to good rum, coming from single malt scotch, Irish, Bourbon and occasionally Tequila. I just had a pour of Foursquare Indelible. It’s nice, but overpriced, not very complex and too much like bourbon! Are there rums out there that are lighter bodied, less sweet, and have some actual tropical fruit notes prominent? Thanks
Enjoyed the review, nice channel. Any thoughts of getting back into it? The world needs more rum channels [that aren't about tiki and mixing]. Sipping rums.
I really like your calm and relevant style of presentation - hope you’ll find the time (and will) to continue this. Thanks and Cheers, Lutz
Thanks for this enlightenment 👍 cheers (I hope to visit Hampden next february)
But does Doorly 12 yr fare better than RL Seale 10 yr? Sure RL Seale has the more interesting bottle but if the taste isn't better than its just marketing.
In my opinion, the RL Seale is slightly better than the Doorly 12. But I love them both. I'm in the US, and the prices are very close, in fact close enough to make the RL Seale the better buy. Because they are so close, my recommendation is to buy both, decide which you like better, and stick with it. Or, you can do like I do, and keep a bottle of both in my bar because they are so reasonably priced.
Hampden Estate, I love their Rum!!! Best distillery in the world.
Fantastic video mate! I'm an avid scotch and Irish whiskey fan and am relatively new to rum. I read a few glowing reviews of this bottling and decided to give it a go for a good friends birthday gift. Glad to hear your positive remarks. Hopefully he enjoys it! Cheers
Miss these videos ☹
Hi there, so was there a video where you talk about your favorite El Dorado rum? :)
Amazingly funky rum that should be on everyone's playlist
Absolutely agree
Can't get the app in USA?
Great review. Would you say the 21 is worth the money? I’m thinking about ordering but not 100%
i can understand rum being made casked in a country where sugar cane actually grows and sent to the uk, but rum being made in the uk? sugar cane dosent grow here period to be honest i get your buying british stuff but most of everything in this country is imported from the fresh food to the packaged . so that really doesnt make any sense to me. Scotland sells scotch to the world because its unique to its area, same thing with rum theres a reason the best rums come from some of the most tropical places in the world.
Hey Would you say batch 1 or batch 2 is better ? Or just buy both? Cheers 🥃
thoughts on the Skeldon?
Simply put, loved it….! I recently tried the SBS 97 skeldon which had a lot more wood and deep fruit flavours which led me back to the 2001 which is really well balanced and an absolute pleasure to drink. Bring on the big bottle of it 👌👊
@@NewWorldRumClub yes! I have 4 bottles of 2001 and a bottle of the 97. I have only tried a sample of the 97 and I was not impressed. But I heard that the sample of the 97 does not taste the same as the full bottle.
Good channel! I was more into whisky and cognac previously. But I just got into rum recently and there aren't many channel about rum
Cheers mate, it’s a hobby that I enjoy but struggle to do as much as I like due to other commitments. Explore the rums, have some fun, and if you want to know more then def worth joining one of the Facebook rum clubs
Hello mate. Really enjoy your videos. Can I pick your brains on the import fees for when ordering from the website rhumattitude or overseas website in general. Thanks
It’s a bit hit and miss. Generally whisky.fr and rhumexcellence have had bottles get through customs without any duties. SpiritAcademy or any of them using dhl normally have a charge and it’s around 20-30% extra on top of the cost of the bottles. Hope that helps…..
so, did you get that Skeldon?
I wish. I’ve been lucky enough to try a few of the SBS skeldons which are good but come at a price.
doing this with my whiskies for years. Great stuff! And very nice square mini bottles. Could you disclose their exact provenance?
I got them from a large bottler one germany. I’ve tried to find the receipt but it was years ago. I bought about 100+ for gin and ended up using them for rum
that's fine. Thank you for the answer!
If you are interested, I’ll keep searching and find the company, just let me know 😀
I think I may be in the minority in that that I think people are a bit over reactive to the sugar in rum thing. I guess I understand if it is not listed and you are watching your sugar intake then that is a problem, but if not and you enjoy the rum what's the big deal? I would liken it to seasoning a nice steak. Sure if you get a super nice cut it will taste nice without seasoning, but a bit of salt and pepper will always hep it reach its true potential. Still, great vid. Very informative!
I know what you mean as it does restrict the rums that so many people enjoy. To be fair, I do have a few diplimaticos, el dorados, ha can clubs that all have some level of sugar and enjoy them all. Drink what you enjoy and I’ll happily share a rum with you sugar or no sugar as long it were having a laugh and not drinking vodka 😉
Hampden Estate Great House 2021 came out today in SoCal. $100 and I can't find any info on the blend. 55%ABV this year
Taken from the secretrumbar review: “2021 Great House (orange label), 55%, 2400 bottles 80% LFCH 7yr* 20% C<>H 4yr* *Unconfirmed A change to LFCH for the majority part of the blend, with the monster C<>H picking up the remaining 20%. Should result in the highest overall ester count to date. The drop in abv & bottles available are both, on the surface, a bit disappointing. However let's wait and see the impact on flavour and availability...”

Thanks for the review! Just got lucky enough to find a 2nd bottle of 2009 today, along with an 07 and 08! Merry Christmas to me!
Which one are you enjoying most? They’re all so good so well done for getting all three
@@NewWorldRumClub The 08 for sure! 07 is my least favorite but still really good. I did just find a new favorite though, Redoubtable!
I bought a 2009 Cask Strength Mark XXII 120 proof aged in Bourbon Barrels. It's awesome!! My friend Scott tried the one aged in Zinfandel Casks. He didn't like that version, but I really enjoy the one I got.
My fave rum...😋😋😋😋🥃
Good man…!
What a beautiful packaging I have to say & interesting proposal on the paper....Today I've seen a bottle of Plantation 2005 Guyana bottled at 45 % (sold for 52 €) coming with 2 different labels (so several bottles with a wide blue ribbon on the bottom of the bottle and the mention of "Grand Terroir", while the other is almost plain cream label & has only a thin stripped blue ribbon but no mention of terroir. I heard there is some "dosage" in it (sugar added), but also that it was probably distilled at Port Morant, so I wondered if it was worth....I didn't bought it yet but risked 36 € on the O.F.T.D. at 69 € which I heard was with 0 dosage. Hope both are "drinkable"...
I’ve not explored so many of the plantation range. I’ve had a single cask from Guadeloupe sheikh was really good, the Fiji was enjoyable but I’ve not ventured into the Guyana ones yet. If you find a good one, be sure to let me know….
@@NewWorldRumClub Hi again, thanks. Meanwhile I've opened the OFTD & like it a lot, highly recommend it, as a sipper (great surprise) while I don't for the Guyana, which is not bad but you can feel the sugar added that is significantly high at least for me (I do for instance no longer drink sugared coke, I can bear only the artificially sweetened one, and I feel sugar when added to Cognac or Rum, and have even sometimes some suspicions about some blended whiskies, while it is supposed to not contain sugar...So yes, OFTD all the way... (the one you can see in some of my live shows, the most recent one)
Lovely presentation on the Bottle ! Great product for it's age if you feel it's Value - I would be looking to try the OP -75% product Soon I've been using 75% rum for blending to my taste . This is not a mass market product , so the Higher Costs must bring something unique to the table. Great review Simon !
Cheers again mate. The OP will be coming out at just under 63% I believe. The 75% beast that I had was a special treat 😜. It’s the same rum, wild fermented, just at a more consumable abv. Hopefully hitting the shelves soon for us all to buy.
Just subscribed to your channel. Another whisky enthusiast(from central U.S) looking to branch out into sipping rums. Great channel and thank you in advance for your channel as I work through your collection. Just picked up the 2009 at my favorite shop(78 usd). Cheers!
Thanks Bill and sorry for not responding sooner. Life, job, family took priority which is why I’ve been quiet. There’s a few more Foursquare coming in.2022 which we’re looking forward to. If you want any insights into the single cask offerings from the various independent bottlers then please do shout and I’ll see if I can help. Hope you’re still enjoying the 2009…….
@@NewWorldRumClub Of course I completely understand and thank you for offering your assistance in my Rum journey. Cheers
@@billmonteith1161 tonight I’m really enjoying a glass of hampden lrok 11yo. Not the cheapest but one I have a lot of time for. Hope you’re having something suitably enjoyable
Smith & Cross $28 is Hampden Estates 5 year old sourced rum and Stolen Overproof $20 is 6 year old and both are good and a cheap entry into Hampden Estates at high ABV
Smith & Cross is a winner although a little younger than suggested. Great value rum for the money but is a bit more prickly than the 8yo. Based on your comments, I’ll get my smith & cross out and do a review on it 👍👍
thanks mate, yet to see this new black box here in AUS but ill be on the lookout for sure
When it lands you’ll know. Let me know when you try it as it would be good to hear your thoughts on it
Nice review. I purchased a bottle of this recently as a whisky drinker just beginning to branch out into rum (and prompted to do so on the basis of Ralfy's review). It certainly does take some getting used to coming from a whisky background, but I like it! Personally I currently add a few drops of water to just temper the funkiest notes and bring out a bit more of the cask influence, but that may change as I get used to it. The WP looks interesting and I'm a big fan of Appleton 8 and 12.
Coming from a whisky background does provide a different perspective. Fair play for getting a Hampden, as you keep going back to it you’ll find more and more you like about it. The WP is the sweet spot between the Hampden and the Appleton Estste. There is also Smith and cross 57% but it’s not in the same league if you ask me (others will prob disagree). Keep telling us what you like, don’t like and any suggestions coming from a whisky background as they’ll be many others interested in your rum journey
If its like the Scottish Hampden then the p is silent
I do think you’re right there. I’ve even been on with the distillery so should have definitely picked this out. Cheers for the coaching 👍🙂
@@NewWorldRumClub Its an excellent rum . Had a bottle last year
1753 under the ownership of Mr. Archibald Stirling of Scotland. So I think this is Correct and good polite advice Sir Lots to learn about Hampden , Simon is doing a great job for the Family as they bring the product to market in aged form also Aged at the Distillery which is a big change for them under the lovely new owners they Started with Rum Fire as they had next to no Aged Product on site . We are at the beginning of the New Hampden it's a great start !
@@boyse69 it’s quite exciting to Hampden and us rum lovers alike. If this is what they’re producing in the early years, what’s to come should be exceptional

@@NewWorldRumClub This is the recipe I use Mai Tai 1944 (Trader Vic) - 2,25 cl Lime Juice - 1,5 cl Orgeat - 6 cl Hampden Estate 8 Years Pure Single Jamaican Rum Batch 2 - 1,5 cl Pierre Ferrand Triple Sec Dry Curaçao But to be truly and authentic to the 1944 recipe you should use 0,75 cl Orgeat & 0,75 cl rich simple syrup, but I prefer my Mai Tai Orgeat heavy. I tested 131 different Mai Tai´s this year (always just changing the Rum). Best for me so far this year. Number 1: Hampden Great House 2020 Number 2: Habitation Velier Long Pond TECA 2005
@@adrianwahl5107 I’ll be getting the necessary drinks to make this cocktail - thanks for the recommendation
So I took your recommendation, went to my local spirits and wine shop, bought some local Orgeat and a nice bottle of triple sec and opened up the tiki bar to 6 friends for this one. It was the first cocktail of the night, batch2 Hampden rum used, 6 smiling happy faces. I used a touch less Orgeat in mine just to reduce the almond influence by a little bit but that’s just my preference. Top recommendation and thanks for putting in all the hard work to find the best recipe 🙌👍🥳👊💪
@@NewWorldRumClub that sounds like a wonderful evening. Really glad you enjoyed it
Love this video. Great information
It took a while for me to find Hampden but now I have, I feel there will be more room in my rum cupboard for the various marques and maturations coming to the market.
Very Clear Audio Sir
Thanks, you and others have highlighted sound issues so I'm glad the mic makes a difference. Aslo, thanks for metnioning the lighting/colour - I'll look into these for the next couple of vids.
