Enjoyed that guys - thanks and have subscribed
I'm with Christian, as soon as I saw the side profile I looked at the stern and my first thought was Capri. Christian, it was a bottle of rum he said you would get. Pricing on that Rae Line seems pretty reasonable. The Edencraft heel over is very much reminiscent of the old Fryan. Personally the best thing you could do to any yacht is chop the mast off, Marinas would look so much better. CGA goods should be fit for purpose for a resonable period of time. I sure as hell wouldn't call 5 years before a windscreen fell off fit for purpose
Thanks for the comment! Yeah the is a definite American flavour to the design/-we love it! And yup boats just cost that these days! Much better than our Aussie cousins! We cannot believe a boat would go to market like that….
Average, used to haul them in at Waipu Cove or at the Waipu River mouth equal or bigger constantly
Cool story- you should tell that at parties.
The answer is 1000 nautical miles a,s 1 third to get there, 1 third to get home, and 1 third for the fickle finger of fate
Yes- as someone who has run out of fuel, carrying extra is always the best solution.
Firstly no issues with your choice of music or the beer you drink. I personally use CT18 Truck wash in a foaming gun which I hose on the just use a broom to work it across the surface then I hose it off. Seems to remove all my salt. sanding of gelcoat, we always use to go 240, 400. 600, 1500 took some time but left no scratches, then cut and polished. Nice vid and good work
Thanks mate- any beer is good beer in my book! Yeah I have looked into that truck wash. All of those boat washes are too expensive for what they are and after looking online that truck wash seems to be the best value product. I will start using that and report back.
Yep couldn't agree more with you guys, you can't do a boat review in 1 day
Yes… we need boats sent to us for the whole summer to properly review! 😂
Personally the best thing to make an old gelcoat boat look good would be a dam good cut and polish then the seadeck
Thanks for the comment! If you watch my Rayglass restoration video you will see how a good cut and polish changed my boat! I would love pit sea deck on! That’s my next job I think!
Maybe two or 3 outboard Force engines
Lol
I want Force125
Hahaha… no one wants one of themz…
Good tip on the driving forward when retrieving anchor. Whats your thoughts on setting the anchor? I've always thought its problematic for the same reasons (load on the winch) particularly with a drum winch.
Great question! Haha mate if you have listened to more than about 5 minutes of the podcast you will know we are in no position offer sound advice!! I have always dropped it and backed on it to set it. Do you mind of I share this to Instagram and we will see what the audience says? Might produce some good ideas!!
@@unableseamen3046Good idea, would be interesting to see what people say, there might be an automatic brake or lock on the winch to protect it specifically for this reason but i'm just guessing. Oh come on you guys are not that bad, Christian's taste in boats aside anyway. Be proud, NZ's premier and only boating podcast 😀
Thanks for the nice words mate! Where are you based? Maybe Christian and I need to come and give Extreme another chance!
@@unableseamen3046 Nelson, you would be more than welcome.
400hp v10 on the Tristram 821. You are right about the boat market being dead, I just upgraded to a boat i wasnt looking for or even considering just because it was a steal. If you need to sell, you just about have to give it away.
Yeah that’s a good shout for and engine and boat pairing! I wonder if they even offer that? I know Rayglass will soon. Yeah sad if you are selling- great if you are buying! What did you get?
@@unableseamen3046 2015 Extreme 795 Game King w/ Yamaha 350hp v8 440 hours, one owner, full service history from new, nicely spec'd (Fridge, 16" Garmin, 1kw, fresh water sink, holt/cold fresh water shower, flushing toilet etc etc
@@unableseamen3046 2015 Extreme 795 GK w/ Yammy 350hp v8 outboard 440 hours, 1 owner from new, full service history, nicely spec'd, 16" Garmin, 1kw, fridge, toilet, hot water shower etc
Sounds like bit of a weapon! And great that you got a good deal. If you have listened to our older episodes you will see we have mixed feelings about Extreme boat- love the look and toys on them- luke warm about the ride and paint quality. Happy to have our minds changed though!
@@unableseamen3046 Yes, i had listened to that episode, I had a 745 GK which i sold aprox 2 years back. I came from a McLay 671 and the Extreme's ride was a million times better but i havent been out on every boat out there either, some fibreglass like Steadcraft, Haines, and alloy, a stabi (back breaking!) and a couple of surtees, which both impressed for their size. The paint is an issue, i had to get a couple of patches resprayed before i sold mine at 5 years old and this one will need a couple of patches doing at some point, really not good enough i agree. I found the handling to be safe and predictable, especially in a following sea, handles like its on rails but it is a little hard on the chine in a head sea. I have been out in some big seas around D'urville, Cook straight and i always felt safe. This one is 2.8m beam compared to 2.5 of the 745, so i expect it to feel even safer and more stable.
When is the next episode?
Hey mate, recorded it the other night- hoping to upload and edit this weekend!
You talk about Herley and Innovision but leave out the best of the 3 ugly sisters, Machina. 8mm Hull standard, huge fuel tanks, would be my pick if i "had to" lol. The 851 certainly should have been on your 8-9m comparison.
You won't believe it but Christian phoned me yesterday and we were talking about what boat we would whack the new Mercedes V10 on and we both agreed that Machina would be the one!! Maybe we will talk about it on the next episode! How did you come across the podcast?
@@unableseamen3046 It came up as a suggested video after watching the Surtees 800 onboard owners review.
I was dead set on getting a Haines until i stepped inside a few and it was like being transported back to the 90's, these were new or fairly new models, the SP635 and SE725. Apart from the ancient interior, the fit and finish was poor, for example the infill squab collapses under you when trying to get on to the berths because it isnt adequatly supported. I have no doubt they are a great hull design, which strikes a good balance between ride and stability. Your rayglass should feel more tender with a 23 degree deadrise at the trransom vs 21 degrees on the haines. But i bet the rayglass will out perform when it gets lumpy. The other thing that gets me on the Haines is how little interior room they have, relative to their external dimensions. The transom design is so deep, you lose at least a foot of deck space compared to any of the competition.
Hey mate thanks for the comment.. very insightful! Very interesting what you say about build quality as that has been their selling point- without that I think they are in trouble. Not sure if they don’t have the $$ for R&D but they need a big refresh soon or the competition will eat them up. I don’t think adding wheels to one model was the answer ( see our latest episode). Thanks for listening!
@@unableseamen3046 Agreed, i visited the factory when up for the boat show, they basically told me they would do whatever i need to get me into a Haines, they came accross almost desperate. They told me they dont have a single build currently in progress and if i ordered could deliver in 3 months. I have had a couple of new boats built, this is unheard of.
When i spoke to Rayglass at the boat show, the 3000 was going to be around $400-$450k depending on how its spec'd.
Yeah that’s what we were guessing depending on engines and options…. Boats are expensive these days. I think that is a lot of boat we only questioned if you are better off getting a 2800 as they are so similar.
@@unableseamen3046The new 2500 (yet to be announced), which is based on the 3000 is the most interesting to me. It will accomodate Seakeeper Gyro and Seakeeper Ride, will come in under 3,500kg full of fuel etc but its still going to be $300 - 350k, so my purchasing strategy is highly dependant on the lottery 😀. If i were in the market for an over 3.5t trailer boat like the 3000, i would rather have the Veitch 27 for around the same money, that thing is a serious weapon.
Bit of a bugga BUT at least the right fisherman kept her rod so you didn't go home hungry
Hahahah Becky took great delight in reading that comment!!
Rayglass galley in sleeping cabin. Completely agree! First thought I had when I saw it
Thanks for the comment! Yeah if you are going to make a new model…. Why not make it different? Might as well buy a 2800!
Is it just me or can't we see any pictures of what you guys are talking about ?
Hey thanks for listening! Head over to our instagram @unablesemen that’s where we put up the photos of the boats we are talking about. As this is a re release ( our very first episode in fact) then you will need to go to the first post way back. Hope you are enjoying the content!
That is a very nice rig. Had a lot to do with Isabell during the build of our 650. Surtees are a fantastic company to deal with. Best boats ever.
Hey thanks for the comment! Yup they are great people- can’t wait to hit the water with them.
Nice pilot house cabjn cruser
Have caught a lot of kingis in the entrance there on live baits. Not sure if it would be the same on a stick bait, but when we hook them on liveys we lead them out into deeper water with very little drag on them. Probably about 2kg. Believe it or not they generally follow like puppy dogs. I was the same as you initially, as much drag as we could handle and continually got reefed. Once we realised the trick was light drag we started catching them.
Thanks for the advice! We will try it, so much fun though!
What a session out there! BOI is a beautiful place. Cheers!
Was so much fun! Love it out there!
Cute couple!! Already subscribed and liked.. Great video and session you had bro 🎉🤩💪🏼
Appreciate it!!
you've got to try ratu or bati rum so good.oh nice king lol
Hahah!! Will try!
great fishing!!
Thanks 👍
awesome just need video stabilization?
Hey mate thanks for the comment. Yeah this is an only video on an old go pro when we were just learning- I think we are getting better… check out our new stuff and see!!
As a newbie for kingfish fishing this was a great episode. I learnt a lot watching this one, thanks! :)
Thanks for the comment! I’m certainly no expert but I am having fun learning!!
Jesus jakey boy, I was screaming at my phone, lol. DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE, more drag, crank the drag, bahahaha there still some knarley foul on the bottom in the middle if ya let them have too much line, drive hard, heavy drag and stay on top of them, but shit ya still get done the donkeys
Hahaha glad you enjoyed it! Yeah bro drove them out is the way I think!! So much fun! How’s the barrier?
Jake the 18 second hero! 😂 Great video guys
Yeah mate, not a statistic I want associated with my name!
Mate nice work on the editing
Yeah it was hard making you look good bro you have a face for radio…..
Nice work boys
Thanks mate! Loved making it.
This was great to see I'm planning a similar trip in a few weeks. Wanna rent a Mustang and drive up the Pacific Coast Highway. Hopefully the one I rented is as nice as the one you have there in the video! One question, how was parking in the bigger cities? A pain to find?
Thanks for the comment! We absolutely loved this trip! The mustang definitely added to it- the roads were incredible. Just check the road is open all the way otherwise you may need to do the diversion that we had to do which added half a day. Parking was easy to find but not all that cheap- my advice is when booking accommodation make sure there is parking with it. San Fran we basically just parked the car at the hotel and rode the tram everywhere.
Thanks for the reply and info! @@unableseamen3046
Waiheke mate? A beautiful day out you had. Can’t getter better than that!
Bay of Islands….
No one knows when you do the intro bro. Do it at the end, you look like a prophet
Good tip!
😢 *Promosm*
Hi, not sure what you mean?
My parents had a 86 Bayliner bow rider when I was a kid. I have great memories of it. We had a lot of fun with it.
Great boats! Now riders are cool But I am glad we had the cabin for overnight missions!
@unableseamen3046 they really were great boats. They certainly weren't given the credit they deserved in my opinion. The shape of the hull allowed them to cut through the waves and corner really well. The hulls were tough too. They could take a beating. I remember the seats were the first thing to break down but the 85 Force outboard ran well and was powerful for the 16ft vessel it was pushing. We did water skiing, tubing, and fishing with it. Awesome memories.
Another great video, very relaxing to watch. I find most clips bad too, have lost a few good fish. I do keep testing them though since I like the idea of quick jig change, so far BKK and Ocean's Legacy clips I havent had any issues
Hey mate thanks for the comment, glad you are enjoying it! Yeah I just have zero faith after that situation, and I am reluctant to go down that road again… maybe if I was given some to try but I doubt I’d go purchase them after that! Just easier to tie them on and know it’s good!
There's nothing wrong with you guys and gal i enjoyed your video thanks
Thanks for watching!
Nice!!!
Thanks!
awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Please do not use a balloon on the livie. There is too much plastic already in the ocean.
Yeah mate not ideal, need to find a place that sells decent floats.
Mate love what happened at 10min in . Crack up. Last time I giv you a mint set like that
Hahaha I knew you would be gutted…. I’m sure you will give me another one- you never put them to good use!
Nice vid bra, looking forward to more 🤙
Thanks- we love making it! Uploading a new one tonight.
Awesome content man! 🎉❤
Thank you 🙌
Did you see my message on the other post you commented on? Keen to get you ok the water with us…. Either on the boat or I can drop you somewhere remote for a land based mission
nice place , wow heavenly.
It really is! Thanks for watching!
Really enjoying your vid mate! Been in Waiheke for a couple times for fishing. Do you have any recomendation for landbased spots there?
Hey thanks for the kind message! We love making it! I don’t have a huge amount of knowledge when it comes to land based spots there, but I think any headland with good current going past will be a good start. There is a mussel farm close to shore a the man of war end of the island which could provide some natural burley. There is heaps of good rocky outcrops on the northern side as well that would definitely hold fish!
Hey mate just watched some of your videos- good stuff! If you wanna get off the wharf and on a boat then come out with us! Find us on Instagram @unableseamen and direct message us.
Hello, do you know the weight of the boat?
Hi there, you can google all the specs and download the original brochure from the Bayliner website 😉. My one was repowered and was rebuilt by me so may have been heavier…..
Fun vid, I could almost smell the 2-stroke oil. Proof that if you’re floating you’re boating. Great job.
Hahah yup warming the planet up one fishing trip at at time ! 😂. Thanks for watching and the support. Please share and like and you are enjoying it! We love making it!
I’m guessing Garden Cove from the opening shot. It always feels wrong going in through the little gap but it’s the right spot. Sometimes it helps to use a stern anchor depending on the wind and how many boats are in there.
Hi there, yup it sure was. Yeah it feels wrong alright! Did you see the drone footage? It shows the channel and the rocks really well. Hope you enjoyed the video
Just checked out your channel, nice 851! I used to make them... See you out on the water.
Nice to see kiwi boating content. Pleased you were joking about Tristram quality 😂
Thanks for the comment! We are really trying to make good content so appreciate the listen! We love Tristram one of the best manufacturers in NZ!
I was looking for a 5.5m-5.8m boat and had a similar short list. Ended up buying a 3rd gen Huntsman Dorado.
Hey thanks for your comment! We love Huntsman boats on this podcast! Great buy and hope you are enjoying it!! We have a review video on a Huntsman Centurion coming soon!
