As with all these pictures I always feel thing looked better in the past.
I agree.
What..? as a Cardiff boy of 60 odd years, that part of town was an eyesore, it's 100%better now.
Best days was butlins 😊
Born and bred in Canton 61 years ago. Then moved to Barry almost 30 years ago. Big mistake.😩
This is due another instalment because it looks a lot different in 2024
@@julian_b you are right. What a change.
I cannot fucking stand people crying about how the old decrepit depression of the past is gone. This new modern architecture has made a monumental improvement to this amazing city and dumb fucks can’t appreciate it.
Don't know they have tram in Canton, why call Canton because Chinese peoples here from Hong Kong few restaurants, take away
went with my parents and my sister back in 1966 . fond memories indeed. Thankyou
I worked at Butlins Pwllheli in 1962. It was a great place for the holiday-makers and for the staff. The entertainers on the Butlins circuit were very good. Dennis Lotis, Michael Holliday, Emile Ford and the Checkmates, are just some that I remember - well it was sixty years ago. We also had a group of Finnish students working with us that year. They were lovely young people. Also, Jimmy Tarbuck was the entertainment Red Coat. Happy days!
Really takes me back😢 great times 😊
Puffin Billy at,3.50 great days
Can we see this with the ordinal music

I think this is it. I no longer have access to the original.
Ah, the Empire Pool. Good times and an adventure into the city centre from Rumney on the number 30 bus. My dad taught me to swim at Guildford Crescent swimming baths. Great shots of the canals too which are now subterranean.
butlins back in the days where the days where great
They were.
Never went there when it was Butlins but have been to it as Hafan y Môr many times...i liked Haven but cant help but think i missed so much not seeing it in its glory days
You certainly have. When I went as a child, there wasn’t any caravans. There was so much more to do. They have ruined it.
You missed out big time, sorry to say. It’s been 42 years since my last stay at Butlins Pwllheli and my holidays there are still treasured memories.
The more i watch these old Cardiff photos the less i think of modern Cardiff...i loved this video the choir was a perfect background to it
Changed now, a real dump.
do you actually remember this era and the total mess that the bottom of St Mary St down to the top of Bute St? your rose tinted specs are betraying you, Cardiff is a much nicer city now, busier, yes, but that's progress, change is a bitch for some ain't it?
@babetopaz I'm from the 60 s and my opinion is my opinion, no shades required Barby.
Wow unbelievable footage I remember every part of this video all locations, I went as a child then worked there in 98 before it closed for haven the staff were great, really were all party animals but I just remember great times there.
Thanks. The little boy on the train coughing, is my son. He’s 33 now.
They put a parking lot on a piece of land where the supermarket used to stand. Before that they put up a bowling alley on the site that used to be the local Palais... Old School Cardiff xxx
Had some of the best Holidays ever here in 1982 & 1983. The outdoor pool, the fairground with the giant and the chairlift. Not to mention the Empire Theatre and the glue tunnel. Magical times. Went back in 1991 & 1993, I think. A little of the magic was still there then. Virtually nothing remains now at Hafan Y Mor.
Why do they call it progress?
We loved this place in the mid 70s, absolutely brilliant days
My first concert with the Richard Williams singers. Mr. Williams has been a huge influence on my singing to this day.
I was there in 1977, I was 14 years old great times!
So was I. In June.
@@MrClarkey01 how old were you at the time?
I was 13.
Remember well
Too sad used go there lots times
So who said Cardiff has changed for the better 🤔
The colour shot on the first clip was about 1996 and brings back dear memories for me 🤔
I don't think the first clip was 1965 🤔
I agree - more like 1925
Fantastic memories from this amazing holiday camp ( indecent proposal)
Drakeford should be ashamed actually welsh leaders why get rid of those historic buildings so cool
@@JaymzZeppelin dw we can replace them with uni flats and move the people who work day in day out for the city away for people who turn up for a term 😁😁🙌
@@JaymzZeppelin safty, asbestos fair enough but some good buildings got taken down to quick
@@JaymzZeppelin Capitol cinema, Guilford crescent baths, both fantastic buildings that could have been utilised in the modern era, but were torn down and replaced with a white elephant shopping mall (capitol centre) and a cheap and ugly hotel (ibis). What a progressive decision that was.
Did a Christmas Contract in 1996. Blimey, how the years fly!!!!!
One of my good friends is one of these fantastic voices. Love it
Who might that be?
Should have stayed a Butlins one of the best parks
We just loved Pwllheli camp and seeing these video s it brought back so much memories for me and the kids we were there in the 60/70 s an on in fact one ov me lads an his mate went back and worked there when thay were 18 y, they loved it I think ithey lasted10years .kept going back .👍
A lesson in how to destroy a city!
How would YOU know? You don’t bloody go there any more!! 😂😂
Cardiff once had fantastic character, like most port cities, but since the end of the 60s it's been gradually erased. Very sad.
Cardiff is a very pale shadow of what it used to be. Now a city of traffic enforcement cameras, empty shop units and student accommodation. So much for progress.
Still love it though.
Went here 3 times in the 70s😊
I can always remember the Beer stain smell as you walked into the French Ballroom, "Party on"!
At its height, it was magical!
As a scouser this place was a regular visit, either here or Llandudno
Not forgetting the parachute club, where everyone got a jump
I was told about this place but never believed it 🤔🤣🤣🤣
You even used to get nice valleys girls coming down to work as prostitutes, it was a great golden era.
The police, courts and council has really killed off the prostitute trade in Cardiff nowadays, such a shame. It used to be very vibrant, plenty of cheap girls near Taff Embankment and Magic Roundabout. The Internet has not helped matters in this regard either.
And then you met pam
I lived in Cardiff from 2004 to 2012. Lots of nice pubs. Lots of nice people. Lots of nice girls. And lots of nice prostitutes, and escorts.
er.. thanks.
Too many roadworks and road signs about in the modern era
This must have been later on, those posh log cabins? We stayed once in an extremely “posh” 6 birth caravan, 1988, next to the rock garden and I got “arrested” for being half in and out of the window because we forgot the key, we had to interrupt the show at the gaiety theatre so our parents could identify? We were 12 so were mortified but it did give us a bit of a celeb status, especially at fair and then chairlift!!
I worked here in 1995. Stardust cafe as a cook. Good days.
Very moving, felt a bit sad though.
Cardiff can now call itself a third world city! Truly depressing watching what it was.
