@@rotaxtwin I have two of these amps. One is in the original console and the other was removed from a console many many years ago. It is interesting because the stand alone amp produces some pretty low bass through my speakers but the console version has just so so bass response. I guess what I am saying is that the amp is actually better than the console it was originally put in.

@@alanrogs3990 Yeah, I would just want the console for the amp chassis. I have a small class A unit but would much prefer a larger push pull like this. When I cleaned mine up I removed a loudness contour circuit that boosted bass excessively on modern speakers so the open baffle setups from the consoles maybe lacked down low.

@@rotaxtwin The Fisher console that mine is in isn't an open baffle system. The woofers are in an un-ported enclosure.

@@lovemycharliefaith1041 Hey unfortunately the speaker cabinets are not worth much at all sadly ... and I say this with no disrespect at all! .. back in 1971 I had a friend build me two cabinets .. 3/4 inch plywood and were much more solid than than the factory! ,,, the truth is back then they were made out of particle board and not meant to be moved around for band and road work ... the were designed for recording studio playback and movie theatres ... and not made for looks ... btw the plans to construct these wonderful cabinets (Altec A7) .. are easy to find ... if the components are original RE: Woofer - Horn - and crossover .. (The Altec dividing network) crossing over @ 500 cycles .. you will do much much better to sell these items separately .. I had this set up in my music room (15feet X 12feet) for seven years and to this day nothing has come close! ... the quality of the Altec components even by todays standards cannot be beat! ... but these components were absolutely designed to work in this A7 cabinet (voice of the theatre) ... but sadly the cabinets are almost worthless to those who do not know how sound works at intense volume ... and the complete beauty of the A7 cabinets is that they also sound fabulous at very low volume also:-) .. when I bought a set of Altec factory built cabinets in1974 they were made from particle board and not as strong as the plywood .. but even so the sound was just as good! ... so good luck and I hope this long winded dissertation has some value for you .. Howdy. I would say tubes seem to deliver more watts is because smoother onset of clipping. The onset of solid state is abrupt and quickly sounds bad. Regards.

@@eugenepohjola258 Both of you are wrong. Tube amps have high output impedance and that results in boosted bass and treble, this is precieved as more loudness. Another thing is the fact that back then speakers had higher efficiency. There are manufacturers that rate their products with bullshit 'music power' terms, but that just means you should steer away from them. Had the marketing departaments of tube amp manufacturers came up with that we would have that bullshit back in the 60's too. 15W is plenty for both tube and transistor to be stupidly loud. If you bring a tube push pull stage into real clipping it will sound as bad or even worse than transistor, because you will end up with massive crossover distortion - grid current causes the output tube to get less and less bias and in the end you end up with crossover. Overdrive on the otherhand is gradual, but that mostly is true for the preamp or single ended outputs. Same as with single transistor gain stages. The moment you go to op amps as long as you don't clip them your output is picture perfect and in properly designed preamp you wont even get close to that. Same with transitor power amplifier clipping - why do you even listen to music so loud as to clip your amplifier ;-) This is nice for guitar or other instruments, but you want to listen to recorded music, not add more overdrive to it ;-) All in all I like tube amps, but a good transistor amp is as nice to listen to. There are just too many misconceptions and myths by people that don't even understand how the devices work.
