I used to stay in Jln Raja Alang when I was a teenager which was in d 70s. Also frm 2004 - 2010 in KL. Usually hung out at SOGO n proceeded to d night market at Jln TAR. A place whereby I could get Muslim attire, scarves and affordable & tasty food. From there u can exercise by walking to Kg Baru (a food haven)/ Dataran Merdeka/ Sultan Abdul Samad Bldg/ old post office & even d Central Market. I have had wonderful memories while staying in KL.

I grew up in area around Sogo till my teens (60s to 70s). Very familiar with this area. Did you know that Batu Road was a two-way street till early 70s? There was very small median barrier in the middle of the road. Once Jalan Raja Laut was created and then widened, BR or then Jln TAR was made one way (southerly direction of flow). Where Sogo is today, aside from Suleiman Court flats, there was the green China Insurance building. At the basement, was the nightclub featuring famous stripper Rose Chan.

Sigh, why Malaysia has so many run down buildings with no proper maintainenance. Those colonial shop houses are like a hidden gem, but most left to rot. Graffiti is also every where. The covid 19 really hit Malaysia hard as you can see there are many empty buildings. Looking from NZ , I admire how kiwi can keep their street and buildings well maintained. Perhaps Malaysia can learn a thing or 2 from how other government operates and improve. Hope government can learn to be humble and continue to improve.
