Fun stuff. It seems that razor mass-production hasn't changed much since the 1920's. What's amazing it that they are not much more expensive today, even though total production has tumbled much since those days. In the 1920's, good German made daily-shavers for the common man were in the $70--90 range, using the 2019 value of a USD or a day or two of average gross pay of a city-dweller's 10 hr days. A daily-shaver Dovo of today, with better fit and finish, is not too much more that that.
I'm new to this kind of shaving, and want to purchase a Dovo, esp after this video. What strop should I buy and what else besides a good soap. I already have Taylor of Old Bond.
@@Blackaceed when I first visited them. 10yrs ago they did in fact use Belgian coticule, since then they switched to JP-made alum oxide based bespoke artificial stones (they demand huuuuge stoned and decided they were not happy with Belgian coticule modern quality and not able to consistently source their preferred Arkansas stone, the producer is well known but not supppsed to name names, if u see my vid from 2017 visit you can see them in use).
One question! I'm wanting to start with a straightR. Been wet shaving for over 10 years. Only plan to make one lifetime purchase. Prima Klang or Bergischer Lowe? or something else?
I really Like how this German Company has one boss checking the work from start to end, Most Companies here in America have way to many bosses and 80% of them are idiots.

It’d be good if it was English, but still, straight razors are it! I’ve wanted one forever. Now skin sags some where I don’t know if it’d be good??

It can quickly become an expensive hobby if you allow it, so be warned lol. It really is great though. Take care, and best of luck.

7:56 = a very large Belgian coticule made (very slightly) convex, wish I had one of those!
That was a naniwa 10k or maybe 8k i can tell by the old base they used to use
Do they hone on a huge belgian coticule?
yes, coticule..but they dont make very sharp razor. shit... sharpening
@@redsik6683 im sure they make too many razors to make sure every razor is honed perfectly and expect you can do better
What grit/brand of water stone does Dovo use before stropping!?!?! I can't figure this out!
"Gelber Belgischer Brocken". = Yellow Belgian Stone.
