Guppy Sanctuary pt. 2: the Wild Aquarium and 2nd generation baby guppies
A trip to a eutrophic lake has led me to the creation of yet another planted aquarium. This one, mimicking the nature of Fly in Acres Reservoir, has earned its name “the Wild Tank'' where I move in my day 1 baby guppies. They started as small fry, and now you get the chance to watch them grow up into colorful adult fish in their colorful new home. More surprisingly, they started reproducing, again! Follow along to see Gopa’s pregnancy and witness the 2nd generation of bebe guppies!

Guppy Sanctuary: succession of an unintentional aquarium into a lively home for baby guppies
มุมมอง 89610 หลายเดือนก่อน
When I started this aquarium, it was with plants I found from the creek. I had minimal resources and a simple setup(low budget), but this humble tank became a haven for aquatic life. The addition of wild plants and the introduction of guppies brought about an unexpected twist - a baby guppy bloom that turned this tank into a thriving nursery for these playful fish. This tank is proof that it is...

My first Walstad Method Planted Aquarium "Underwater Garden"

My journey through this hobby and this aquarium in particular started with me not knowing a single thing about planted aquariums or the methodology of growing plants underwater(anaerobically). I didn’t even have a friend in the hobby or anyone I could turn to for guidance. So, I spend hours and hours researching, reading and anno...

May I ask what substrate you chose. Is there soil under the gravel? Also, you use a filter but don't do water changes, is that correct?

If every person did 1/8th the amount of research you did, there would be a lot less dead fish in the world. You're wise beyond your years, and showed your tanks the respect they deserve by doing your research BEFORE buying living creatures. Not AFTER they start dying, and I have to see another "Why are my fish dying" post on Reddit.

13:10 that "aluminium plant" didn't look like aquatic from the beginning, better put it in the pot on the windowsill. I have seen many times how indoor and garden plants are sold as aquarium plants. Chlorophytum, Fittonia, Dracaenaand so on...

Great video! I’ve done the same this year…. I think everyone should have a tank like this! Also may already know but there are allot of house plants you can grow from the top of the tank with the roots just submerged in water.. and these actually filter water more than submerged plants… orchids are one of them as I noticed u had some of these … just need to may a basket or a clip hold… I have spider plants in mine and there thriving and water is clear… but notice I need to top up more as there probably drinking it all…also want to mention that your description of how memorising a tank is great…. Really can watch forever all the little things… cherry shrimp are legends!

In 1977, a German man taught me how to keep fish and plants using garden soil and silica sand. Europeans have used the ecology of soil long before Waldstad appropriated the name, just like in reef aquaria Germans developed the Berlin School of reef keeping, which is one of the basis of modern reef keeping. So what you created is a Natural planted aquarium in the old German school. Natural methods were first pioneered in England around the late 1800s. i totally admire that you researched much before starting your aquarium project, because I think we need much more people who research and study before starting any project in their lives, specially if it involves animal and plant life.

This is an excellent video. There are adults who have been in the TH-cam game for years who aren't able to match your production values and thoughtful approach to video essays. Well done! The effort you put towards researching this topic really shone through in the video from the start and as soon as you mentioned that you have Bulgarian heritage I couldn't help but to think that you'd be doing the Bulgarian heroine Elena Lagadinova, "Амазонка", proud - she was a trailblazer who dedicated the later part of her life to agronomy and she would be so happy to know that young people like yourself are also dedicating themselves to studying the same sorts of things as she did.

20:37 someone may have answered the why regarding the Amano Shrimp. They stay in fresh water until it is time to deliver and then move into brackish waters with strong currents. A few days before she is due to deliver you would have to put her in a different tank for the amanos to be born successfully. Not all flatworms are Planaria, but Planaria will kill your shrimp. There is a video someone put together in which he captured the Planaria exiting a shrimp's exoskeleton... There are treatments for the Planaria that are fish and shrimp safe but will kill snails if they are left in the tank while it is being treated.
