I always thought it was funny that one of the main characters of Euel Arden's novel Down Here in the Warmth is named Stanley Milgram. Which is weird cause its about a race riot that leads to a militia attempting to foment civil war in NYC. (hmm, maybe its not weird) Arden said in an interview that he did know who Milgram was and purposely used that name. Because in the book Milgram is almost a Holy figure and he felt that if the Milgram experiment worked in one direction (easily turning people toward evil) it could be used the other way. Kinda cool huh.
What is interesting about this study, is that none of the participants involved in the "Shocking side" were actually being shocked. They were told to react in ways of pain when the "teachers" were told to shock them. Its incredible what people will do when told too by higher authorities.
Oh- the experiment was rigged so that only the “teaching side” was taken from the population. The “victim” was actually an actor, and each sound was pre-recorded to correspond to a certain voltage level. The deception is part of why this experiment is controversial now.
Ok first off, yeah no shit no one was actually being shocked 😂😂😂 Second, do you just roam the internet looking for subjects you clearly know nothing about, just to swoop in and be a perfect example of the Dunning Kruger effect? There is no real person making noises on the other side of that wall. The switches are set to trigger different audio recordings. Every single "teacher" heard the exact same recording for each level of "shock".
Participants issued shock coz. 1.Experimenter spoke in way participants never felt they was bullied( "PLEASE" continue with experiment 🥴) 2. He told he will be responsible if anything goes wrong 3.He is not doing this for him but for society by having an assistant. They appeared as educated team 4.Participants conformity with educated team who appear to be doing something worthy
No. Everything done during covid was to keep people safe. This experiment shows how far people will obey, even when they know they're hurting someone (such as in the holocaust)
Milgram didn't include women so as to avoid a gender power imbalance (which was of course very prevalent at the time this took place) affecting the results
@@Dean_W1nchester.He was also apparently conducting this experiment as a way to understand how so many soldiers were compliant in the Holocaust. There were no female soldiers back then.
We see the same thing happening today where people are happy to put conservatives in jail for decades, because their government tells them that they need to.
I retired a few years ago right when everyone started to really hate us. Its fine though, plenty if folks still excepted Jesus from the back seat of my patrol car. Mentored a lot of kids and even talked a guy out of suicide once following an arrest but that took a lot of personal time. Hes doing well now. I remember being so mad at a drunk aunt that killed her 13 year old niece in a crash the next day i found myself yelling at a dad tghat didnt buckle his own boy in. He didnt deserve that. I hope he forgives me. So hard those days...would never do it all over again. When my squad member blew his head off with his retirement gun, i figured i best move on. Anyway, ya thats exactly how they recruit us.

The last guy they showed actually ended up going through with the whole thing
Put a like if you are watching this as part of your pre-class work for IIM course.

That poor guy
None of the learners were actually shocked. The obedience test was done on the teachers, and the higher authority to be obeyed was the experimenters.
What's really sad is can't be doing these now. Gives good insight and into the human condition.
Who else is here cos of JFK junior
You mean RFK junior you absolute moron.

Argumentum ad verecundiam - your argument is invalid. No, really. It's a sophism. If only we'd learn rhetoric right from elementary school on...
Perfect experiment to understand how covid played out
I resisted authority. It was the BEST decision of my life.

Not for me. Rarely wore a mask. Slept in shelters on da floor. I did get covid but didn't feel a thing. Everybody else idk
I bet you do this experiment in Muslim country. You will see opposite of American. Muslim couldn't harm any human.
I wanted to see the ones that refused. Glad it was posted.
Only 33% did refuse
The last guy they showed actually ended up going through with the whole thing, even once the guy stopped "responding"
What? No women Teachers?
Milgram didn't include women so as to avoid a gender power imbalance (which was of course very prevalent at the time this took place) affecting the results
There was a later experiment conducted by different people which included women

The criteria that came from this experiment is How all Law Enforcement officers are hired.
