I’ve had the big fancy steamers that you can wheel around but those are hard to get up the ladder to reach the top of long draperies on install day. So I like to use the portable steamers you can get at Walmart or any local store. They are light weight and when they stop working they are cheap enough replace with a new one. As for steaming fabrics that grow like linen… I try not to steam them but I do sometimes to help get the creases out and they do recover to normal length if the air is not too humid. If it’s very humid they will stay longer until the temperature turns cooler and drier. When fabrics come folded up I press as best I can and accept that linen is just going to have wrinkles.

Thanks for the comment. I line up the pleat on the same place on my tacker every time I tack a pleat to make sure they are consistent. The exact spot isn’t the important part. It’s being consistent that’s important so that all the pleats are tacked at the same place. If I measured where the tacking stitch is, it would be about 3/4” down from the top and 1/2” into the pleat (that part varies depending on how much fabric is in each pleat). Sometimes I stitch them by hand- in that case I stitch several wipe stitches about 1/2” down from the top grabbing about 1/8” of each side of each pleat. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

Yes that is the same system but it only comes in one size if you order the kit. You can order the clutch units plus the shafts and other parts separately for bigger shades. I like to cut mine to size and have all the parts on hand. I usually order the bigger clutch because it’s more heavy duty. You need to order the coordinating brackets depending which size clutch you order if you are not getting the kit. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the great question! The designer wanted this one to match the other Roman’s in the house that were outside mounted off the back with self valances. Otherwise we would have mounted the shade off the front with the clutch on the back. If the clutch needs to be hidden from outside we put a lining flap off the back to hide it. Thanks for watching! That’s a good question. When the fabric is solid we cut the drapery fabric down to the size of the lining if it’s wider than the lining. In this case because of the print we do not worry about the lining because we want the pattern to match at the seams. If we cut the drapery fabric down to match the lining then the seams would not match. Hope that helps. Thanks for the question ❤️

Thanks for the comment! I love when these tiny little ideas are helpful. When I started using this new machine I didn’t expect that the foot would automatically go down when shutting it off which traps the thread so I had to train my brain to remember to un-thread it. I try to have good habits like this for each machine because we all know that all machines have their own special quirks.

@@tullydraperyshop I’ve had my tracker for about three years. I waiting so long to get it and then when I did, I let it sit for months thinking I wasn’t operating it properly because of the thread nests. I also had trouble getting the correct needles. The ones that came with the machine were like ice picks, so when I got thinner needles it threw the timing off. So when I had to give in and call the repairman I asked him to leave enough time to show me how to work the machine properly. The tracker and I are friends again. I’ve been doing drapes for over 20 years but I’m self taught and work alone, so I really appreciate your videos. Our processes are very similar and it’s nice to get confirmation that what you’re doing is correct. It’s always important to continue to learn.

That’s a good question. It’s hard to say because I was making lots of other draperies for this project at the same time. I cut all the fabric for 5 rooms, sew it all, hem it all, cut all the lining, etc.

The skirt fabric and lining are already sewn together at that point so there’s no need to secure it. At that point I was just turning the stripe fabric up 2” to the back side to make the hem. Does that answer your question? Thanks for the comment! And thanks for watching!

Thank you so much! We used 9 yards of the stripe fabric in total for the bedskirt and pillows. The bedskirt needed 6 of the 9 yards.

Yes definitely remove the staples. Usually I use pins but with velvet the staples work much better. Good question! Thanks for watching!
