I’ve got a theory this takes place in the same canon as the theatrical cut of Little Shop of Horrors. Basically, after Seymour destroys Audrey 2, the alien plants send another of their own down, but due to a mistake, lands in Fraggle Rock. Far from human blood, the overwhelming positivity of love of the Fraggle way of life meant that Lanford was unable to grow beyond the form of a sapling, and had to evolve in a far less lethal and evil manner, hence why he’s still one of the good guys.
