    I purchased a new 2024 Super Duty with the 6.8 gas engine. I believe it has the 10R100 transmission. It appears to shift just fine. It goes from one gear to the next just very smoothly. The issue that I'm experiencing is that (in certain gears), when I'm driving at a constant and consistent speed and I take my foot off the gas to let it coast for a moment, then put my foot back on the gas, it does this clunky pop and jerk. Kinda like there's too much slop or slack in the drive line somewhere. I'm noticing this primarily in 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th gears. 5th gear being the worst gear it does this in. (So far). Sometimes it's a slight pop and jerk. But sometimes it's a hard pop and jerk. Usually the hard pops are in 5th. I've taken it to Ford 3 times, and they swear there's nothing mechanically wrong with the transmission, that it is all program issues. However, they've ran program updates 3 times on this thing, and it's still doing the same thing. It's very discouraging that ford is acting like this is perfectly ok. In your opinion and experience, what's your thoughts on what's going on with this transmission?

    Interesting video and you've confirmed a few things i've thought since I bought my Ranger in 2020 with the 10R80. That there is the propensity of the valves to either get hung up or slow down, even with the fairly nice filter on board. I've been preaching early and often fluid changes to keep debris out of the valve bodies and I have also (incoming controversy) been using Lubegard Platinum since 10,000 miles. (1oz per qt of changed fluid). I know additives get a ton of flak, and that we really shouldn't need one, but several people have tried it and reported positive results. I practice 10k drain and fills on the transmission, although I feel 30k might be enough, I'm in it for the long haul and I tow heavy quite a bit. (Of course, this does nothing for the hard-part failures) Ford is just chasing their tails with all of the reprogramming trying to get them to shift right once they've been contaminated. Good vid!!

    Dealer tech/Personal truck 2020, Had a harsh downshift on my 10R140/ 6.7L when cold at 60k wouodnt hold 4th gear on downshift and instantly slam into 3rd almost throwing you into the windshield once every drive cycle usually around 100-150 TFT. Went to “overhaul” valve body per TSB didn’t find much nor a sticking valve or any scoring but I threw a new one at it anyways & It’s been great ever since…. Normally we see a lot more issues on the gas trucks especially and 10R80s with shifted CDF bushings. The diesel 10R’s seem to be a lot less problematic and smoother shifting.

    my 10r80 blew up the day i got it. was in drive and wouldn’t move in all gears. warranty said the clutch got stuck open. needed a new front support assembly, a clutch frictions and steels and filter. still doesn’t shift at wot. I like your offerings but other people rate their 10r80s for more power and they cost less. I’m looking for more information on a 10r80 that performs at the 1800hp level and possibly a pure drivetrain solutions converter. I look forward to you guys putting out more info on high hp 10rs👍🏽

    So awhile back you responded to me on a bookface form about a wired whinning noise (at the time thought it was the trans). Well it ended up being the converter. Without cutting the converter open from what I could see, the Stator torrington (I believe) was not in the place it should have been when I pulled the converter off and tried looking inside. I could tell it was messed up and moving around way to much. Im curious if you have seen that before and why that would fail in about 3500 miles with being a brand new setup? This was a 68 converter by the way.

    • @wpdevelopments
      @wpdevelopments 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a couple different ways a Torrington can fall out of place, -too loose of stack height inside converter. - ballooning of torque converter from pressure being way too high inside the converter itself -rebuilder reused old Torrington -too tight of stack height and put too much pressure causing the Torrington to wear and come apart.

    Ethan, so in 5th gens with the separate TCC solenoid does the L/R solenoid keep holding the L/R clutch like we want it to thru the 1-2 shift when we demand it in the tune?? Great vid

    • @wpdevelopments
      @wpdevelopments 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So technically it could very well work in tuning. If you have a snap on scanner you can watch the L/R pressure switch to verify it’s staying on… since the SSV never needs to stroke in a 5th gen it’s crazy to me they even put it in there.. thanks for watching! If I test prior to hearing back I’ll comment!!

    • @BillyWillicker
      @BillyWillicker 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To be clear. The low sprag, on an RFE is well protected by the electro-hydraulic strategy in the OE system. In N-D engagement, there is no load applied to the low sprag as the low-reverse clutch is already applied and holding, as with a P-R engagement, and a P-D engagement that is again running through a N-D engagement. The clutch holds until 8mph, releases the LR clutch and then upshifts 1-2 by applying the 2C clutch with no overlap/bind of synchronous shift. There is no shock load to the low roller in an RFE unless you lose traction above 8mph and then regain traction before the 1-2 shift - not likely. In reverse, the LR switch valve shuttles and cuts off oil feed to the LR pressure switch. The pressure switches are only monitored/active in forward ranges. If you tune to see LR pressure switch closure in reverse, it will never see it. Look over the oil diagrams... Very few people really know these units well.

    • @BillyWillicker
      @BillyWillicker 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Holding the LR clutch on until the 1-2 shift WILL cause a bind. The '19-up units will be less of a bind than '18-back as they have an enhanced reverse circuit. The reason for this is because that will change the shift from an additive or non-synchronous shift into a synchronous shift. The valve body cannot exhaust the LR clutch oil fast enough to release the LR clutch before the 2C clutch applies, it must be fully released before the 2C applies and the OE tuning releases it long before the 1-2 upshift command. The 2C and 4C clutches are the two fastest applying clutches in the RFE, and the LR clutch is one of the slowest releasing as at 8mph it is designed to release slowly to gradually transfer the full load of 1st gear to the low sprag.

    • @wpdevelopments
      @wpdevelopments 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BillyWillicker We have studied this unit probably as much as anyone in the development program. We have every fluid path memorized on top of we are one of the only ones with pressure taps on every circuit in the 68rfe with intense data logging. Your L/R prime function makes it even worse if you think about it because no matter what as you stated if you leave L/R on too long you get a bind in 1-2. So the sprag isn't initially loaded off the hit then the clutch releases and shocks the sprag. We actually made a SSV that hydraulically feeds the L/R clutch all the way through 1st gear and when the SSV strokes from 2C oil it shut it off. We have made this real and I believe we are the only ones ever to make it work or even try it. As well as you might be familiar with the stock tuning but our customers in high HP or HD applications all have aftermarket TCM tuning. There for 8mph isnt enough to hold throughout the 1st gear. If you start the clutch holding first then once you are moving along and drop the clutch it does indeed shock the sprag with whatever load the clutch was holding at the time of release. Do you have internal strain gauge data? but in all thank you for watching and thank you for the input man!! I really enjoy talking to others about this stuff!
