Cedric Price - Technology Is The Answer But What Was The Question? (Excerpt)
In the full talk (www.pidgeondigital.com/talks/reference/P7908/) you can also hear Cedric Price discuss his work on the computer centre for the British Transport Docks Board, his restaurant at Blackpool Zoo, a short-life mobile airport and 'The Generator', a leisure building.
The late Cedric Price, who sadly passed away in 2003, was, according to one of his clients, "the most cerebral of British architects... He was frequently consulted on the relationship of architecture to policy and planning in the fields of education and energy in both the USA and the UK".
The title of Price's talk is typical of the man - someone constantly searching, questioning, rethinking. Though he was in practice in London from 1960, the number of his built projects was small. But his output of professional activities, published work, and feasibility and research projects, was varied and prodigious.

Love the optimism of the narrator about what is one of the worst slums in London. Architects of huge schemes should all have to live in the places they build.

Alexandra Road is not a slum by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, the problem at Alexandra Road these days is that the rather too well off who think the places's aesthetic is hip are buying the units for large sums of money.

Let me know what drugs you're on as I fancy a complete switch-off from my brain once in a while, the exact kind you have displayed with your comment. What I'll exclude from the mental holiday is the grand delusion you also manifest; I think I'll be okay without that bit.

Couldn't agree with your more. I lived here and still have family there. Robbery was a huge problem. The back entrance of the properties are so low that they just invite burglars. Drugs, bullying made this a horrible place for children
