Alaska Cruise Day 7 (Hoonah | Chichagof Island)
On Day 7 of our Alaskan cruise, we explored the town of Hoonah. We visited the cannery and then I went on a bear watching tour. We saw some beautiful scenery around Chichagof Island. Meg stayed in town and saw a humpback whale bubble net feeding from shore! Next up, we spend the day at sea. Thanks for watching!

We saw tons of sea otters, humpback whales, orcas, and Meg even witnessed a humpback whale breach multiple times in a row. We saw the Margerie Glacier (which calved!), the Lamplugh Glacier, and the Johns Hopkins Glacier. The scenery was simply breathtaking and this was definitely my favourite day of the cr...

On Day 4 of our Alaskan cruise, we explored Skagway. We visited the Moore Homestead, walked to the Gold Rush Cemetery, hiked up to the Lower Reid Falls, took the train to the White Pass Summit, and had a drink at the famous Red Onion Saloon. After seeing the breathtaking scenery sailing away from Skagway, Meg said "This is the dream that we never knew we had".

On July 2, 2023, we snorkeled with sockeye salmon below the Stamp River Falls. We saw lots of crayfish, sculpin, pumpkinseed sunfish, juvenile salmonids, steelhead, and big schools of adult sockeye salmon. We even saw a bear! Friendly reminder that fishing is not permitted in this spot.
Diving the Tajma Ha Cenote, Mexico
มุมมอง 1915 หลายเดือนก่อน
In March 2023, we dove the Tajma Ha cenote near Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. We entered through the Tajma He cenote, dove underground, came up through the Sugarbowl cenote, and then returned to our entrance. We saw beautiful stalactites and stalagmites, pale catfish, a blind cenote shrimp, and some mollies. This type of diving is not for anyone who is claustrophobic.

I live 30 mibs from there hand done 50+ dives at Paradise. The last statue you showed is also right next to a headstone. It is in the memorandum of a diver that was killed down there when he was crushed by a falling boulder and trapped. We also fine skeletons and translucent crabs down there.
Oh wow! Thanks for letting me know! That is a horrible accident, but nice that there is a headstone to remember this diver. Translucent crabs would have been really cool to see!
Subscribed from Denman! Great footage!
Awesome, thank you!
Nice video and nice scenery.
@dangillespy3000-v3k thank you 😊
@@scubamax I live in the Comox Valley and there is a lot of nice, beautiful scenery in the Comox Valley.
@@dangillespy3000-v3k There sure is!
@@scubamax It's a nice place to live.
I have often heard the Pacific Pacific Northwest has very colourful and interesting underwater life. It was wonderful to see it for the first time.
Yes, these waters are very surprisingly colourful! Glad you enjoyed the video 😃
Same bro😊
How deep is it there?
My deepest depth was 27 feet and that was bottom, but it's possible that it could go a bit deeper in other spots.
Awesome footage!
@@brutusisadog thank you 😊
How deep are you and whereabouts off the island are you?
This footage is a compilation from shallow dives all the way down to 110 feet. I mostly dive around Nanaimo, Nanoose Bay, Port Alberni, and Campbell River.
wow, funs!
Thanks :)
Wow!
neat video! what camera do you use for underwater video and photos?
@lm1973 thank you. I use a gopro 11 with lights and a macro lens.
Didn't like the drum in the music so i had to turn the volume down then i couldn't hear you. Subtitles?
If you click on the CC button on the bottom right, it will provide subtitles. Hopefully that helps :)
You’ve seen so many different species ! Most people aren’t aware of the vast number of beautiful fish in the PNW. Thanks for introducing us ! The spiny lumpsucker looks like it should be a character from a Disney film ! 😂
Yes, I've been very lucky to see so many different species! And I'm still finding new ones! The PNW is truly incredible! And yes, lumpsuckers do look like Disney characters! haha
hi super cool video! I would like do the same thing. Did you have a dive shop recommendation?
I went out with Nanaimo Dive Outfitters out of Nanaimo, BC.
@@scubamax Awesome thank you!
I got bent there on my 30th birthday, 27 years ago - good times!
hahaha glad you recovered!
I have gone for the last three years but this year I am not able to go 😢
Darn, hopefully you can go next year!
Are you going fishing here again this summer
No, unfortunately
What time of year is this in the video
This was in late August 2021.
Okay
Nice fish
Thanks!
Wow, lots of stuff you don't see if any of in dive videos. I appreciate the IDs. Nice work! I listened to enough of the narration to know that it is informative, but the background music forced me to turnoff sound :( I've never found back background music behind, or in this care, over narration, to be helpful.
as the self designated most edaucated person here, thats a Phoca vitulina, or common seal. i had thought it was a sea lion at first though..
Thank you for this video. It was a great way to snorkel in the keys when the outer reefs were not accessible due to high pressure system causing waves/small craft advisories. ❤️
@dadadadada4974 Glad you were able to check out this spot :)
Great footage and commentary, awesome video!
Thank you :)
Awesome catalogue of our local marine life, well produced video. What camera and photo light/s are you running? If you loose an item of value drop a GPS pin and contact me. -> Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter
Thank you! I am using a GoPro hero 11 with 2 x 2,000 lumens sola video lights.

Love this. Looks like you gals had a fab time. Your Titanic moment and the extended salsa dancing were my personal fav moments to watch 🤣
We had so much fun salsa dancing :D
Tajma Ha was epic! Loved the feeling of the halocline. Another great dive/ vid!!
Thank you :) and yes, the halocline was cool!
Oh how I love cavern diving. This cenote is beautiful and I remember loving it just as much as you did!
It sure was beautiful!
I mean, us Americans do love our flag, but it is also a United States Coast Guard ship.
Good point. I just found it really cool to see a flag flowing in the current underwater. Was very majestic!
What was your favorite, Roatan or Utila?? Im going next month.
Personally, I preferred Roatan over Utila, but it was fun to check out both islands. I found the diving in Roatan better, and the vibe was more for me. We chose to dive with Sun Divers in West End, Roatan and found that dive shop to be very friendly, accommodating, and professional. We saw lots of spotted eagle rays and turtles, and our guide even found us a seahorse. We also dove the Aguila shipwreck which was cool, and saw squids and octopuses on a night dive. In Utila, we dove with UDC and found the staff less professional. The dives were rushed, we were surrounded by new divers, and the reefs weren't as healthy. Utila seems to be more for younger backpackers that want to party, which was not what we were looking for. The captain also chased down dolphins for people to swim with, which did not sit well with me. Both islands offer different things, just depends what type of vacation you are looking for.
@scubamax Awesome. Thanks so much for the response. Sounds like Roatan is the best fit for me as well.
@@joshs6333 You're welcome. Hope you enjoy Roatan as much as we did!
LOL your ATV "Oh God" counter was hilarous. Also... there MUST have been an easier route available to that lighthouse 🤣
I swear, that was the only route to the lighthouse! It was crazy, but the view was worth it!
The poor cat 🤣
He was cute, but he wasn't coming in our room haha!
Another great vid. Such gorgeous diving. That's for educating us about the sloth tourist trap, and sorry about your Go Pro screen. Ugh I would have been so upset, but so glad you were still able to use it :)
Ya I'm glad I was still able to use it because they didn't sell gopros in Honduras so I wasn't able to buy a new one. But luckily it lasted for the remainder of the trips.
Awesome vid. Those squid really love you!!!
Thanks! They sure were cute 🥰
Great video. We went on that cruise in September 2023.
Fun! We went July 2023.
Looks like you caught it on a good day. The last time I was there, the current was ripping and the vis really sucked. Great video.
I've heard that from many people. I'm glad I got lucky and had an amazing dive on this wreck :)
Hey. I remember this wreck. It's been a few years since I last visited. Is the Bibb still nearby. Same kind of ship, but lying on its side. I certified for Wreck Diving on these two wrecks.
Very cool! I've never heard of the Bibb, but I would imagine that it's still there?
This is a great video. Thanks so much. Especially identifying the fish. Wondering: 1. was there a current or surge? 2. Your depth? 3. If this was a 2 tank dive, did you have a break between dives, and for how long? 4. Did you like Captain Hooks as a dive operator? 5. Did you have/need a guide? Hope you don't mind the questions. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. I don't recall any current or surge on this specific dive, there usually isn't much current on shallow reef dives in the Florida Keys. I also don't recall the exact depth, but probably around 30 ft. Most reef dives in the Keys are quite shallow (less than 40 ft). The norm on a boat charter is 2 tank dives and yes, we had about a 1 hour interval in between dives. Captain Hooks is a good dive operator. They have many shops and lots of employees, so obviously your experience will differ based on the staff you get, but overall, I've never had a bad experience with them. A guide is not necessary, but they can point out fun critters and ensure that you don't get lost. Hope this helps!
@@scubamax Thanks so much for your reply. My son and I plan to go to Key Largo this month and then to Marathon hopefully in the next few months. We are Open Water PADI certified.
