Charlie and Benji make Koba howl
WeRateDogs had a video of two dogs howling and it set Koba off.

Not sure what caused these towers to wiggle. It looked like an earthquake, but there wasn't one. There were not high winds either. Trippy stuff. [Smoke in the background was from a container fire at the Port of Oakland.]

1986 Yamaha SRX600 Motorcycle. Strange engine noise turns out to be loose crankshaft end nut.
มุมมอง 3363 ปีที่แล้ว
Even though the primary gear and the balancer shaft gear are keyed to the crankshaft, there's a bit of free play unless the nut that secures them is torqued properly. Good thing for lock washers or this nut could have backed off and then shenanigans would have followed. After re-torquing the nut and putting everything back together, the sound while running at the end is so much nicer. Like when...

All this fun with a big stick because I forgot to bring some tennis balls on this visit to the beach.

Koba never howls like this. Maybe she is right that she was throwing some dog insults. Sorry about the poor lighting but it was almost time for sleep. Koba *was* asleep. He woke up to have things to say.
Adventure Bike Ride - CA Hwy 70 along the Feather River, Hwy 89 to Greenville - September 19, 2019
มุมมอง 1485 ปีที่แล้ว
First half of day two of a five day ride. Before heading up Highway 70 along the Feather River, we try and get gas in the nearest town, Paradise, CA. Paradise was devastated by fire in 2018 and almost all of the gas stations were fenced off, with a pile of rusted metal where their shops once stood. We cut day one short to avoid getting rained on on Highway 70. You can see in this video that the...

Day one of a five day ride from the Bay Area, up into the Sierras and northeast California. Plumas, Lassen, Modoc forest areas, connected by as much twisty road as possible. The roads and the camping are the priorities. The rain that arrived mid day caused route adjustments that cascaded through our whole itinerary.
Mountain Bike Ride - Sunol Regional Wilderness, Sunol, CA - November 29, 2019
มุมมอง 3045 ปีที่แล้ว
A very climby, all fire-road ride. It's hot in Sunol in the summer and fall, so we saved it for the winter. It rained several days before the ride. Just under an inch. We though the dirt would be primo. The forecast was for a dry day. It was not dry. I wind up having to remove the front fender to allow the bike to roll. High Valley and Hayfield roads were some kind of clay/adobe disaster. Even ...

Roadies on dirt
Great ride, thanks for sharing!
That looked like a great time! Beautiful up there.
Nice carb:)
damn that is a steep climb
Came here because of that Honkai soundtrack
I actually made this first try on 5/30/2022 on the Ripmo. Same line as the last line in the video.
You are spot on brother... Keep the video video sharing going!!!
Damn it takes me way longer in the FJ to get to the turn off for the flats! Very cool to see the perspective from a dual sport. Just went overlanding last weekend up there. Took me about an hour to get to that turn off in a 4x4.

Hello! I’m in bishop right now with my 500 but it’s super Smokey. I’d like to ride to mammoth to get out of the smoke. Do you still have the gps/gpx tracks ? Thanks Paul.
Try gpsxchange dot com. I don't think you are going to get out of the smoke that way though. Looks to be getting pretty bad in that whole region tonight.
I did that same exact ride in May, 2001 on a 1993 KLR650: Shaffer, White Rim, Lathrop Canyon, then out Potash. I've never seen Potash road flooded like that before. Fantastic ride, and my first time in Moab with a motorcycle.
Funny. We showed up for a week of camping and riding and it started raining on us as we set up camp. It rained all night and even snowed a bit. Wettest May on record because of that storm. About 3 months of typical local rainfall all at once. We had good dirt for a few days after that!
Its Capacitor discharge ignition - it has its own coil in the stator - the engine has its origins in trials and desert racing some replace the battery with a large capacitor - I've replaced mine with a 2.5ah 4S lifepo4 battery
Hi, how did you wired that battery? Is it a lipo charger wired in line too?
I used four 2670 cells wired in series with a high discharge/ charge rate, a 4S lifepo4 30amp bms ( Max voltage 3.6v) that could accept an 18 amp charge all connected with 12awg silicon wire - since posting this I realised the cells are are 3.5a/h - there is no need to fit a DC to DC charger as the output of the bikes stator is 18a at high revs
Many thanks for sharing your knowlwdge. I am going to try your set up. :)
@@italovergara4926 3 years and still working well - I found a nice box on ebay to put the cells in
I can't believe of all the places you could have recorded on this road, you started right here. It's surreal. This is exactly where the helicopter went down a month prior to the DAY and caused the fire. Weird memories. I'm glad I saw this. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for this great video
I love that place!
Nice i worked in placentown black hawk country club gomf cource nice place

I ride this park almost daily great trails to learn
Hey nice. Im a beginner and just bought an old mountain bike from craigslist, i think its nice place to start. Gonna be there soonnnn...
It's my 4th day bike riding and I live in the area. Man this trail is like months to years ahead of my progress. Setting goals!
Yeah most of the trail riding in the bay area has steep hills to climb. Coyote Hills is probably the easiest place to get started near there. A good resource if you are new to the sport or the region is bayarearides dot com.
Could you send me info or gps routes for this mammoth to bishop ride? My email is finerty6@gmail.com I would really appreciate it! Thanks!
Email sent.
Loved the fly crawling across the lens. I rode this trail quite a few years back and remembered that the horseflies were awful on the way up. Beautiful trail though and well worth the climb.
After riding here for a while, I learned that on the Stile Ranch trail where you descend on those rocks, speed is your best friend. Did it on a hardtail.
Good to know your used a hard tail. Gonna check this place out. 🤙
Was this started at Carr/Feeley Lake?
The way this loop went, we passed Feeley and Carr lakes near the end on the way out. It started off of Bowman road and went up Lindsey Lake road past Lindsey Lakes.
The route on this ride was deliberately chosen to be unusual (that is, maybe not the quickest way to connect the funnest stuff together) - It went like this: Sierra Morena -> Gordon Mill -> Spring Board -> Lawrence Creek -> Blue Blossom -> Spring Board -> Gordon Mill -> Crossover -> Crosscut -> Timberview -> Manzanita -> Fir -> Tafoni -> Fir - Sierra Morena
U guys go so slow
that place is magical
What route did you guys take? looks fun! I recognize fish slough and chidago canyon, then to waterville? what was past that though, I think I usually go benton crossing to whitemore tubs to hot creek hatchery
We got GPS tracks from the Bishop Dual Sport 3 Day event, put on by Ventura County Motorcycle Club (VCMC). You might be able to find the tracks on gpsxchange dot com. The route they provide offers slightly different options to Mammoth from Bishop and back again.
great video! do you know the name of the lake you stopped at by the snow?
Funnel Lake.
+gvdollar thanks! just got an 83 honda xr500r I want to explore some more of the area on
Nice. It is a beautiful area and that ride in particular up to Coyote Flat is a lot of fun with spectacular vistas. It is very hot in the low elevations in summer and cold/snowy at high elevations in winter. Pick your ride time carefully.
+gvdollar copy that, thank you
Where the fuck is this?
Herr Rodrigo Hernandez 9806 I'm the guy asking where this is. I've been to alum rock, I think. Just never found these trails.
Herr Rodrigo Hernandez 9806 Who the fuck are you?
LOL, did the EXACT SAME THING in 1989 on 88 Ninja 250 when a dude on an RZ 350 seized his bike while I was going around the outside of him about where the bridge was and slide all the way to the exit of the dragstrip. Got flicked like mashed potatoes on a spoon into the air when he T-boned me. Man that hurt when I landed. Was my first real wreck (in my second season of racing) of an 11 season career with AFM, AMA-CCS, WERA, WSMC, OMRRA and WMRRA. This brings back memories! Thanks for the footage!
You keep jumping from shot to shot, I want to see the trail bit I can't :/
Really great video thanks for the upload and sharing. Im really interested to ride this area planned a route out but wanted to compare routes. Would you be able to send me GPX or at least check out my route?
Could look at the route for you if it is online somewhere. I'd recommend the Trailforks app if you have a smartphone. We used an old pre-GPS guide map to plan the ride, but the app was very helpful for verifying our location mid-ride, as we were not always sure we were making the correct turns at junctions. In some spots it is honestly hard to see where the trail is too, even when you are right there. I also should have mentioned in the description that the last bit of the loop that got us back to the start point was Forest Road 17.
gvdollar thanks for reply here is the route I made. I also added sand ridge loop as a extended loop my.viewranger.com/route/details/MTQ4MzkzOQ== Via @ViewRanger
Hmm. Althought it is very nearby, that has zero overlap with the route we did. I can't say for sure what you'll see. In general though, expect steep climbs, soft dirt and loose rocks, and don't forget this is all at high enough elevation that the lack of oxygen will be an issue for most people.
Thanks for your input
gvdollar well my ride went well! Such an amazing hidden gem of a area. Doesn't seem like many ppl ride there amazingly
this was the best bike ride i have ever seen!
I am a big fan of your biking videos! Thanks!
drz?
DR350, with aftermarket plastic.
DR350?
Great sound! Acceleration must be awesome. Did you change main jet to 130? Do you know sizes of other jets? Does the kickstart works fine whatever hot or cold?
For the Mikuni TM40 carb, right now the jetting is 127.5 main, 40 pilot, and needle on clip 3 of 5. That is not the stock carb, and this bike also has an old SuperTrapp exhaust, so these numbers probably won't apply to other SRX600s. It starts easily cold or hot. The choke is required for a minute when cold but that's no surprise.
I was in bayview for this and I couldn't believe my eyes and ears...there was No thunder
OMG..beautiful but scary
i like hearing your banter when crossing that log bridge.
i was planning on a ride to lake sonoma next week. what trails did you take
We started on South Lake Trail. At Old Skaggs Springs Road you cross to Rancheria Trail. We intended to take that all the way around to Cove trail and more to complete the loop, but we were running out of daylight so we bailed on the Wulflow Shortcut through some campgrounds up to Rockpile Road. You might want to try and ask locals how the trails are handling all the recent rain. Some of the creek crossings might be an adventure right after rain. Open Cycle Map has the trails marked by name. mtbr might be a good source of current info.
Great video, thank you for sharing!
Really nice you know were the trails starts at? Iam from modesto thinking of checking it out
We drove in along Mines Road and then to the reservoir on Del Valle Road. You go all the way in through the parking lots to the boat ramp. The trail starts just next to the boat ramp. It's basically a dirt road there. It turns into single track further in.
Love Moab and the White Rim Trail. So far I have only driven part of it in my 4x4 (goneMOAB Nissan Frontier) and ridden part of it on my dual sport (Triumph Ti9ger 800XC - loaded for a week of camping on the UTBDR.) Looking forward to riding the entire loop on a fast, unloaded bike!!! (See videos on my Channel)
How sandy was the road? Could a KLR do it without sinking in?
KLR should be OK. Even smaller bike will sink in without some technique though. You need to keep your speed up. 15mph+. It took me a full day of riding in this kind of stuff to figure it out. Years of riding on relatively firm norcal/sierras loamy terrain didn't prepare me for it.
Yeah im just worried, I dont do sand well -at all- I hit some deep sand in death valley and got launched over the handle bars, I was paranoid of it ever since.
Another great video. glad you don't add music, I would rather hear the bikes. Every June we visit Moab for a week but I have never tried going off road. Maybe this year I will rent a dual sport. I have been riding motorcycles since the middle 60s but no experience in dirt.
I loved the video and the scenery was spectacular. It would be nice if you would talk a little bit about your bikes and the skill level needed to ride these roads. I am 72 years old and have a desire to buy dual sport bike but at my age maybe it would be smarter to stay on the tarmac.
These are mostly mid-sized (400-500cc) dual sport dirt bikes. What we normally trail ride with. This route is a public road, so it is pretty easy as far as dirt riding goes. There were a couple of sandy sections. The guys with steering dampers were glad to have them.
Thanks for the video. I loved doing that ride even though it was well above my comfortable skill level. But at 60 years old I was proud of myself
