For The Love Of Architecture Model Making
Architecture model making featuring Mies van der Rohe's Neue Nationalgalerie built by Callum Henderson studying architecture at the University of Cambridge.
I absolutely love making architecture models. It's probably my favourite part of the course. I love the patience, the perfectionism, the attention to detail required to make a good model. Hope you enjoy seeing the process of one of my recent precedent studies!

- Model/craft knife blades: amzn.to/369AxzR
- Model glue (by far the best glue for card IMO): amzn.to/3BrgJDC
- Mechanical pencil: amzn.to/3gRbfsr
- iPad (used for quick dimensioning over plans): amzn.to/3GWwW51

Hey team, this is the first architecture studio vlog of the new term! I'm finally back in Cambridge again and super excited to continue making videos here. We've kicked off the term with a new studio brief, this time covering an abandoned town. At this early point in the term I'm just studying the town in lots of detail. Follow along as I work hard to get my project together in time for pin-up!...

I'd like to confirm if this interview was for an undergraduate degree or on the pursuit of a graduate degree.
Applying this year
Thank you very much for this inspiration! Thank you!
Hi
Does the college fee for international students cover accommodation? What's the difference between the rent paid by home students and the college fee for internation students?
Love your work ✨🫶🏼
Great portfolio !
What materials did you use to make this?
Hi, Is it necesarry to move out with your things when you're leaving your room? Is it possible to keep them somewhere? What international students do in this situation? Bc I can't imagine bringing all your things 3 times a year
what subjects do you think as an Ib student we should take to apply for a good architecture program? do you think taking art in school is really important or can we make our portfolio outside of school also.
Could you mention the courses you took up for architectural photography and drawing?
Thank you for sharing your ideas
Thank you for this video, Callum. It helped me get an offer from Cambridge! Now, just the exams to do 🦾
Man, you resemble like dream.
I just found out i got in!! Your advice was so helpful, and from my experience one simple piece of advice is by far the most important. The admissions people are not looking for a particular type of work (i.e. fine art, life drawing, etc.) if that is not what youre passionate about. From my observation the absolute most important thing is to present something that you can talk about with genuine interest, passion and enthusiasm at the interview. My work was all from 3d design a level, obviously no fine art whatsoever, and i couldve spent my own time getting together fine art (which i suspect they do generally prefer), but i would never have been passionate about it and thus it would not have done me well. Tldr: present something that you passionately believe represents YOU.
Hello! I take DT A-level, and i'm not the best at fine art either... do you recommend anything specific for a portfolio as someone that gets involved with CAD??
3:25 the way you hit the camera was incredibly funny to me lol
I can't lie I haven't been able to listen to the audio but would you say I need to cater my selection of buildings to what theyd want to see? such as different styles and old classical gothic whatever, or can I just draw what I like, modern, sleeker, buildings, skyscrapers etc? Thanks in advance
you're doing sooo good!!!!
what is the actual material that u use to build with - cardboard? wood?
Next time try to use disposable gloves to avoid finger prints. Also try to buy thin clear acrylic to make the “glass” less flimsy. Great modeling skills!
Hey handsome, do u use perspective to draw this? Or simply sketches?
amazing
Very cool!!!!
Hi omg!! First CONGRATSSS👏🏼👏🏼 I just started my junior year and I really wanna study architecture but I have no idea what to do since I go to an international private school in Saudi and I’m really confused what UK colleges want?? Or what I’m suppose to do for my portfolios and stuff😅?
Thanks Wow that was quick and so much info! Not a second wasted that's how it should be!
Well done mate, we all know university in this country is the biggest SCAM.
@CallumHenderson Hi i hope you are fine this video was amazing the way you explained stuff. There is something i want help with right now. Would really mean a lot if you could help me out. So basically i havent taken a level arts or gcse arts like you and now that i have 3 months left for my A2 to start i have time to make the portfolio so i dont undertstand how to build up conceptual drawing and the architectural drawing . I would really appreciate if you could answer thanx
How much would your starting salary be?
Thoroughly enjoyed it ❤
I thought Architecture at Cambridge is just a bunch of theories rather studio focused. I might look into Cambridge architecture. Hope you enjoyed your degree :)
This video is incredible!
Mate did you get accepted?
Incredibly useful.
fag
I'm about to choose my a level options, and think I may want to go into architecture in the future, as I love how it combines both maths/physics and art. However, I haven't done art GCSE and may not be able to do it for a level...how much do you think this would affect an application for architecture? Also, roughly how long did it take you to put together your portfolio, and how did you do this, whilst balancing all of your other a levels?
Try and do any design or arty subject… unis prefer one arty/design subject, one writing subject and physics or maths… that’s the ideal
Ok,so long hair is allowed.I'm relieved for now.
What size is your portfolio?
I’m also at imperial. Really considering the same thing.... I really don’t like it here. It’s sad seeing other friends at other universities happy whereas here it’s just work work work.
Dude my friend is the same position as u and honestly I’m worried about her. Just know getting into imperial is already a huge achievement on its own and ur mental health and well being is more important. ❤
Very cool..
Thanks for this video! May I ask why physics is not especially relevant? It’s a bit of a surprise to hear that b/c I assumed physics would be very relevant seeing the course outline, like structural design, construction technology, and architectural engineering. Are these courses more about maths than physics? If yes, I might consider doing maths and further maths instead of maths and physics. I see a small number of colleges requiring both math and physics though.
Wonderful portfolio and drawings. You can see through these images and drawings a lot of thinking! congrats
Bro calm down
You have done a really accurate drawing of it as someone who is very familiar with the mandir.
what subjects should i start studying before i go architecture ?
tory bastard
Hi Callum, Thank you very much for your videos. They are very helpful and informative. I find they are the best videos in TH-cam . Really appreciated. I am a mother of a 15 year old boy who is passionate about becoming a good architect. He hopes to apply Cambridge in 2025. Would you mind if I ask you some questions about University of Cambridge?
super helpful! going to have these next week:)
Oh my days...
Is it possible to earn architecture with just a portfolio?
