    I LOVE your videos, please keep them coming ! I’m getting everything ready for my daughters second grade with MFW , but a dear friend hand me down some classical materials she did with her mega smart kids , and I’m so torn (with language and arts) . This review was so nice and balanced , again, thank you so much ! I believe Masterbook is a little bit more advanced than MFW LA, but slower paced than classicals like Well trained mind stuff .

      I would start with 1st if she knows CVC words. Every child is different so I can’t say for sure if you’ll need an additional program, but we did not.

    Did you need to do any additional phonics work after mfw? We're doing aar 1 but my daughter does not care for it, she also hates Saxon math and so I'm considering a complete overhaul and switching to mfw for next year

    I'm beginning my homeschool journey this year with my 4 and 5 year old. I'm using My Father's World as the main curriculum and want to supplement with Simply Charlotte Mason Math/ and a workbook. I'm also using how to teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons. My 5 year old has advanced reading skills but needs a curriculum to boost his math skills. My 4 year old has mastered letter recognition, he is extremely advanced in math, he can count by 2s, 5s, 10's and can easily solve addition and subtraction (both kids need to improve their writting skills). I want to instill a love for learning. Do you think MWK will still challenge them?

    • @OfficialHomeschoolGems
      @OfficialHomeschoolGems ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion, MFW Kindergarten is really not intended to challenge children; it's more so to establish a love of learning, connections and relationships. Something I realized after 16yrs of teaching, is that is homeschooling is like a marathon, not a sprint race; if you go too fast, too hard at the beginning, your kids burn out and lose steam. I would encourage you to start with MFW plus a solid math curriculum and then you can always add supplements as you get into a groove and see growth happening.

  • @kristenciesielski9700

    • @OfficialHomeschoolGems

      I moved everything that went with the country of study; that usually meant science, geography, activities and reading. (Depending on the ages of your kids, that will depend which books you use or do not use) Bible, Math & Lang stay consistent.

    I don't understand why "children in 2020" have nothing to gain or learn from classic photos or vintage words. Also it's crazy to think children in a city can't relate to farm animals / farm life, when many children in rural areas are well versed in city living. It's just an odd thought process.

    I have a (will be next year) 6 and 4 year old and I’m trying to decide between Beautiful Feet and FIAR. Do you have recommend one over the other for those ages? Also, like do you think you could use the Beautiful Feet primary for kids in older grades (like 4th, 5th) or would be too simple?

    • @OfficialHomeschoolGems
      @OfficialHomeschoolGems ปีที่แล้ว

      If you like to do crafts, recipes, games, & activities then FIAR has more of that. If you like more of reading, discussion, some drawing then Beautiful Feet has that. BF is more simple, FIAR offers more to do. It all depends what you’re looking for. I would suggest using guides that fit your children’s ages/grade levels.

    • @OfficialHomeschoolGems
      @OfficialHomeschoolGems ปีที่แล้ว

      They are both great choices. With Queen your child will write inside the actual workbooks; each child needs their own. With Lang Lessons for Today, your child copies out of it using something like a spiral notebook so the actual book can be used for multiple children. Neither contain any spelling. Hope this helps.

    Hi! I know this was posted a year ago, but I'm hoping you still might see this! My daughter is in 5th grade. She is struggling with math, especially her multiplication facts, which are essential for upper level math. You mentioned that your daughter was not math minded, but had graduated and gone on to college. I'm curious as to what you would recommend: staying on math fact practice, games, memorization, etc until mastered, or moving on and hoping she eventually internalizes them. I'm so conflicted. I hate for her to use a calculator or multiplication chart, but it takes foreeeever if she has to figure them out to do double digit multiplication or long division 😭😭 your thoughts?

    • @OfficialHomeschoolGems
      @OfficialHomeschoolGems ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this honestly depends on you and what you are most comfortable with. If you're okay with your child being "behind" the public school schedule, and taking the more scenic route to learn things slowly....then do that! But if that will keep you up at night and make you stressed, then move along and use aids/games as you are able. Every child is different and every parent too; if you pray and ask the Lord, He will guide you!

    • @ginamcgrew9955
      @ginamcgrew9955 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OfficialHomeschoolGems oh my goodness! Thank you for your quick reply! She does learn slowly in math. It is a bit scary to go at her place bc I fear that she will not be ready for upper maths until middle school 😟 but I was a child who was dragged along clueless in math for years, and developed such a phobia of math that it was paralyzing. I don't want that for her. Thank you for the encouragement to pray and ask God for the answer! He's the one that called us to homeschool, so it makes sense that he would have the answer 🙂
