    One of the unique features seems to be "Nhost Run", running arbitrary services alongside your core backend is useful, and I'm surprised other providers don't have this feature as well. As far as I understand, one of the drawbacks (at least for now) is that it can only expose http outside (e.g. can't expose websockets), however it's still quite useful.

    I don't get it for passwordless, what am I supposed to do with the not working link , if the session is null how isAuthentificated will switch to on !? const { isAuthenticated, isLoading } = nhost.auth.getAuthenticationStatus(); ?

  • @chrisbitoy7272
    @chrisbitoy7272 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love what Nhost is solving for. However, the docs and services are a little confusing, there is no `single source of truth` for most of the 'components' that makes up framework specific app (NextJS) in our use case - For instance, both `useAuthenticationStatus()` and `useAuthenticated()` seems to be used to get 'Auth Status' of the user - why both, which one is the right one to implement in my app. Another example is these two imports `const { provider } = useProviderLink();` and `nhost.auth.signIn({ provider: provider });` - Both seems to help sign users into the app - Again, which one is the right one to use. While devs are resolving these issues by implementing their own solutions (which eventually works for them), It seems a lot of devs new to your services are running into the same issue I am running into trying to use the service. I think you guys should settle on one `true way` for devs to implement your solution in their apps. I can post a few links of tutorials showcasing various different ways they set up authentication services using your solution. It's great if it works, but unpleasantly confusing to devs who are new to it, and trying to use it. In my case - I continue to doubt if I am setting things (Auth) up the right way. P.S. Make more 'official' tutorials showcasing various features of Nhost and how to work with them. Auth is complicated and confusing as it is. Glad you guys are solving the problem.

    I didn't understand the exact usecase of some body using CLI and doing deployments/migrations manually 🤔 can't we simply connect front end (localhost or live vercel site) directly with the GraphQl end point and get things done ?

    • @Nhost_io
      @Nhost_io 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The benefit is that you have all your migrations version controlled so it's easy to do local development and work in a team. You can ofcourse connect directly to production during local development, which is good to get started. But for serious development we recommend develop locally and push changes to production that are tested tested locally.

    Hi, very interested in Nhost, but it would be great to get full support for Nextjs and NextAuth (auto-generated project with your Nhost CLI), also to use FaunaDB for the full acid and global scaling serverless DB architecture. I would prefer to use FaunaDB as the actual storage layer as opposed to postgres, thoughts?

    • @Nhost_io
      @Nhost_io 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. We already support NextJS (and any other frontend framework) and we got our own Nhost Auth already that's fully integrated to every part of Nhost. I don't know much about FaunaDB (is it open source?) but we're betting on Postgres.

    • @seanknowles9985
      @seanknowles9985 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nhost_io FaunaDB is a serverless database developed by one of Twitter's ex CTOs I believe. It's well integrated with Netlify and Vercel and is really catching on as it has global acid transaction compliance (I believe it's one of the first for full global acid compliance). Fauna is pretty ground breaking at the moment as it's the first database to be fully built from the ground up with serverless in mind and is multitenant. I am looking for an alternative to Firebase and AWS amplify, so am looking for similar features with either more freedom or cutting-edge technologies. With that in mind, what's missing from Hasura is offline functionality, they haven't rolled that with the product whereas both Firebase and Amplify have. As with anything provided as a service we shouldn't have to roll our own when the very reason for outsourcing to serverless API as a backend you would imagine it baked in, especially with the offline requirements with how the modern web works. I would say it would be awesome for someone (perhaps Nhost to fill the gap) and provide a unified graphql API to Hasura and Fauna DB with clientside offline functionality for popular clientside frameworks and then provide a CLI similar to AWS Amplify and you have an absolute winner on your hands. Looking at Blitzjs for inspiration, they are doing pretty amazing things with NextJS, CLI, Typescript, and Prisma (also just released a Faundb example). Just some feedback from a Tech nerd who got his fingers across that JS churn.

    • @seanknowles9985
      @seanknowles9985 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Nhost_io I think building in the offline functionality is the real separator, so many frameworks are already doing what Nhost is doing but they don't provide the offline sync layer. At the moment I am sticking with Amplify until someone fully integrates the offline capabilities and then I would consider moving. I love Hasura, but without the offline baked in, I am gonna stick to AWS Amplify.
