B-17 Hobby-King 1875 mm RC Plane. Review: The Good and Not So Good
I review the B-17 1875 mm from Hobby-King. Here are my initial impressions and the must-do items before you attempt to fly this RC aircraft. This is an independent review; I purchased this warbird myself. It was not provided by the manufacturer or distributor. All opinions are my own and not necessarily endorsed by Hobby-King or it's affiliates and subsidiaries. I have no formal business arrangement with said entities.
Battery: 4S 3300 Mah LIPO, Getting about 3 - 4 minutes flight time.
I did not use the CG indicated in the manual. The safe CG from my experience and researching other users is 16" (40.6 cm) back from tip of nose. If you want to use a larger battery pack, the CG might (might) be safely moved forward but use caution.
Because the props on one side of the wing counter rotate with the other side, they provide left and right hand props. So be sure that the leading edge of each prop faces inwards towards the fuse.
This plane can be purchased at: hobbyking.com/en_us/b-17-v2-flying-fortress-pnp-wingspan-1875mm-silver.html
There is an extensive thread on this plane spanning 2011-2022 on RCGroups. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?1463141-HobbyKing-B-17-EPO-1875mm-Memphis-Belle

This is part 2 of a video detailing the conversion of a Smith Tachometer from RVI to RVC. Part 1 is here: th-cam.com/video/tegjwtwWjI8/w-d-xo.html The conversion is necessary because the Jag E-Type's ignition was converted from points to electronic ignition. Electronic ignition cannot be detected by the old RVI tach, so it must be converted to RVC. I converted it using an easy-to-use kit from S...

Ed, thank you for giving me a video (hand)...I was able to do 2 of mine...took 5-6 hours. You seem to be a natural teacher...very well presented. I too ordered the kit (actually 3)from spiyda. Chris sent them arrived in good time...like everything else was a bit more. Only thing took me a while was the thick read wire is your 12 volt hot line...or is connected to the green 12 volt hot...really, nothing tricky...at all. Again Thanks. Mitch. 5/4/23
Thank you for your gracious comment. Good luck with the project.
Very helpful to see the step by step video. I will be installing this in a Smith Type II tach off of a 1969 Volvo P1800. One thing I didn’t see mentioned was that the large resistor brown ,black, green and silver needs to be removed to get the old electronic board out of the movement. It is soldered between the upper and lower boards. Thanks for a very informative video, a very big help in my installation preparation. Richard B.
I'm glad you found it helpful. Thanks!
Calibrate this! 🍆. 😂😉
Super indepth👌 and straight forward. Thank you so much!
Thanks for this detailed information. Helped me with my project!
Very interesting. Always wondered how to do this! Thanks man!
