When you think about it it's not even that long ago. In some places big changes and in others no changes at all. Typical old camcorder footage. Really interesting.
Born in 1966 lived in Laura St Hendon. Then pilgrim st southwick, then moved to mill hill 1975. Left Sunderland in 89 moved back 2000 a nd left again a
At 13:13, they have turned off onto Douro Terrace towards Ryhope Rd with the Church at the junction of Mowbray Rd. I lived there in The Cloisters from Summer '85-7 and it is largely unchanged, thank goodness. The old architecture in town was grimy and run down. The modern glass and steel is simply hideous.
I lived a stones throw away on Lorne Terrace in the 80's The church at 13:13 was Park Lane Methodist church. I know as my Grandparents went there and I was hauled along as a kid . Even went to cubs there .. Grew up all around Mowbray park , Civic center and when uncles took the dogs walking we would go to Backhouse park . GREAT childhood .
You're joking mate. Remember all them people who were unemployed? The 80s were f'ing horrible. You're confusing being young with being living in a good era.
The fact that Sunderland Council cancelled the 2023 Airshow because of their Net zero ambitions tell you all you need to know about the idiots in charge.
Net zero but they're tearing up the Gill where loads off animals live and cutting down hundreds off trees to build a new foot bridge over the river wear.
Unfortunately the local council hasn’t did anything to improve the now City 🙈 still a run down Labour city. It’s a lot worse now than it was after the War.
I remember these days, and seeing the old shops, it reminded me of a joke, please bear in mind i was only a kid in the 80's, i was born 1974 oh where did you buy that? Binns ahhhhh, you're a bin raker
@@michaelloughlin734 I certainly did. It's scary to think how long ago it was. I stayed in the North East for nearly 15 years. Very different times then. Miners strike. Shipyards closing. Marsden Grotto collapsing.
Mark just the two as these were found in a skip in sunderland by a gentleman I wish he'd got the lot as he mentioned that at the time quite a few were lying in the skip at the time.
@@nothere7300 That was the year after I graduated from the Poly. I lived in Newcastle then, but still used to spend a lot of time in Sunderland. I'm intrigued about who that could have been.
Brill, my brother went to that school, nickname Tinker haha, good video, where did you get the uni Sunderland stuff from please? Looking for anything regarding the adventure playground in Pennywell.😁
It was uploaded by a guy on Facebook who actually found the video tapes in a skip beside uni in Sunderland in the late 1980s he only got 2 he said there was more what a shame he didn't retrieve them as well .
These films came from students from Sunderland University who had done street surveys in Sunderland and were discarded in a skip their was more the lad only rescued two at the time what a shame others would have been intresting to view....I have both posted on my TH-cam channel.
@@leeanderson5025 To be fair you do have a point. I was brought up a few miles down the road at South Shields and Sunderland was always a dump while I was growing up. Only went there for the football and the odd panto.
Fascinating, Corbridge Roman Town, then Housesteads up on the hill and then over towards the west & the Wall. Hadn't realised how defined the path was on top of the Wall, nowadays of course you're not supposed to walk on it 😁 Thanks for posting.
Remarkable how little traffic there is
Forgot what a shithole it was !
Amazing how much things have changed
Fabulous. Thanks
Fellas ice cream depot and cowies
this is how I remember sunderland before I moved away.

Roads much quieter. I can remember it like this like yesterday.

Again 2006
Brilliant this. The power station where b&q is now
Opens turning left onto Toward Rd from Park Road. The shop is still there, but now a hair salon!

That would be Sunderland Polytechnic students.
Better days back then ,plus all the bars were much better over the town 👍

Arthur..its cancelled all together...never to b seen again

Arthur t its been cancelled all together.its not zero ambitions.its health&safety first
If you live at Roker or Seaburn the Air Show was a yearly pain in the backside. And I am not a Net Zero fan.

Back when university was for intelligent people
And voters didn't elect idiots like tory Boris Johnson! Or vote to leave the EU!
The jealousy hasn't changed one bit though, it seems
You didn’t go then.
Looks just the same! just dirtier now.
I live not far from here! XD
3:06 onwards, has all changed again, new road etc.

Amazing to see this. I was at the Poly from '84-'87. Lived at Park Place West, Esplenade West, St. Bede's Terrace, Brandling Street (Roker).
Mrinal that's great to hear glad you enjoyed it.

Hi I went to St.Thomas aquinas school and my mother worked at wither wack as a teacher

Lived on the Esplenade West too. 1984/85. Carlton Bar anyone? On to the Mecca or the Bunker later?

Alliance Place Dave
Great stuff. I've only just moved to here in the past couple of months, but around the time of the video I was working on the refurb at the Ropery
there are no trees on the bottom of my street and there is a pub right on the bottom too
I live near that bridge in pallion and it looked boring back then lol
