When a Band Abandons Pop-Punk
มุมมอง 1.5K12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Boston Manor are one of my favorite bands, but they have noticeably shifted away from their initial 'pop punk' sound. With the release of their new album on the horizon (Sundiver), it's the perfect time to talk about one of the best alternative rock bands in the scene: Boston Manor. #bostonmanor #datura #poppunk #alternativerock
Neighborhoods is Good, But...
มุมมอง 1.4K16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Neighborhoods is the sixth studio album by American rock band Blink-182, released September 27, 2011, through DGC Records and Interscope. Their first album of new material in eight years, its recording followed the band's breakup and later reconciliation. Due to conflicts within the trio, the band entered an "indefinite hiatus" in 2005 and the members explored various side-projects. After two s...
Did The Story So Far Release Their Best Album This Year?
มุมมอง 211วันที่ผ่านมา
From Rolling Stone: Since forming in Walnut Creek, California, in 2007 and rising to niche fame as one of the leading voices of pop-punk’s burgeoning fourth wave, Cannon and the Story So Far have learned to listen to themselves when they need a break from all the noise. They immediately churned out 2015’s self-titled LP after their breakout 2013 album, What You Don’t See, and took three solid y...

Yeah I know it was supposed to be a "rock opera" but it really felt like a setlist of songs loosely strung together with themes of angst, revolution and global warming (lol?). Not sure if it works like that, but there are some bangers on it and I think it's probably a top 5 Green Day album. Murder City is probably my favorite track. Good take tho.

The generational difference is fascinating to me. I’m a bit older, just turned 40 and I was 13 when I heard “dammit” on the radio for the first time. By the time neighborhoods came out, their sound had changed so drastically from 1997 that an entire generation grew up on neighborhoods. It’s interesting that you didn’t perceive the patchworked production (the guitar tones, drums, vocals, etc have very different tones from song to song) because you were so invested in the music itself. I’ve always felt neighborhoods was ok. I didn’t hate it but it was definitely a step down for those of us from the pop punk era of them.

For me it sounds like they didn’t really work together on this album. Like everybody made their own parts, glued it together and got over with it. It feels like they just weren’t fully in for it again. That´s what I don‘t like about this and the next record. „One more time“ is the first record in the original line up that doesn’t feel like this.

Neighbourhoods probably isn’t a masterpiece…but by God is it a REALLY good piece of work! It’s deceptively progressive, probably let down by its production. (Would have loved to have seen someone like Gil Norton or maybe Butch Vig work on this.) One of my favourite aspects of the album is the lack of “na-na-nas” (California was exhausting for this reason) and the lack of teenage related lyrical content (again, please see California above). It actually felt like a punk rock album for 20/30somethings, and for that reason, it sits in my Top 3 (with Dude Ranch & untitled).

It was my first Blink Album (beside greatest hits) I bought from my own money. I always liked it but still back then i thought Enema, TOYPAJ and Selftitled were all way better and more cohesive than this one. Eventhough I love Toms vocal color on this album, I always thought he sounded bored, and you could feel that he didn't really care for Blink at the time. I would probably rank it over California and Nine and maybe Cheshire Cat (?) but that's about it. Top 3 songs are imo Natives, Kaleidoscope and Wishing Well.

neighbourhoods was a natural continuation of the untitled era sound - blink went from angsty and aggressive to depressive and dark with this album. The spacey sound they had developed during the 2004 live shows make a reappearance here, although gained down to suit Tom's new guitar rig. It got even better with Dogs Eating Dogs, it felt like they'd truly refined the sound and Tom and Critter did a great job producing, it was probably their best produced album until One More Time

  • @nicktiberio2420

I say this a lot, it’s a good album for the time it came out. In a post pop punk era where alt indie was making its way to the mainstream. And a lot of alternative rock influence is all over this album. It’s not Jerry Finn blink, it’s not cassette era bleach blond blink. It’s in its own feeling on this one. Kaleidoscope is probably one of the best songs off that album. The mark dis tracking at Tom is so underrated and not subtle across the entire album. “Oh Tom you want me to do the chores for natives? Here’s your fucking chores super star.” Just peak petty and I love it

Been waiting for this video from you! This album solidifies what we saw on PD; the maturing pop-punk sound through tone and themes. This album speaks to me more because of those themes and tones-- more than if the band were to revert to USaD or WYDS or S/T sound. "Nothing to Say" is my standout track from this release. "NTS" takes the best elements from pop-punk and hardcore and softens them while remaining true to the TSSF sound. I think that track is my favorite they've ever released as it's TSSF's sound wrapped up into a 3 minute "best of" montage for where they've been, where they are, and where they can go. Thematically devastating, sonically uplifting and undeniably catchy-- the best of TSSF. WYDS, USaD, IWtD, PD, ST

I have been in to pop punk and emo since 2010 and I first heard of TSSF in 2011. I have never got it everyone was and still is best pop punk band of the whole 2010s era and I’m like no there one of my least fav there first 3 albums are equal to me but like a 6/10 or 7/10 there fine but I never ever want to listen to them. Proper Dose now that’s a 10/10 album my fav by them and one of my fav albums ever made it was the first time I ever got the hype for the band. This new album continues that for me while not as good I still give it an 8/10 and the best part is easily the lyrics for me. I can now say I’m finally a fan of TSSF

Spot on. It doesn’t resonate like all the other albums. I think the album lacks cohesion. The songs to me don’t seem to relate maybe poor ordering of the track list. But every other tssf song you know what album it belongs on. This is almost the b sides album
