Matt and Calv take a trip from the Start (and End point), Trent Lock, and scope out the first part of the journey to Nottingham. It's a good job because one part of the route was closed and we only realised once we'd been cut up with brambles and nettles. Still... Pain is a friend of ours! Hi. I have, and use a lot, a 2017 Pinnacle Lithium 3 which has disc brakes. In July travelled the Hebridean Way from South to North loaded with pannier bags and frame bag. It has an aluminium frame and the position is a little aggressive. Had to walk when the hills got a little too steep and some teeth of one of the front gears went out of alignment (they were replaced later) which did not stop me completing this trip, but otherwise, if you are not in a rush this was great on road and gravel surfaces that I meet. I have Schwalbe Marathon Plus 40mm MTB tyres which are almost indestructible.

    Had my medium Roscoe 7 in Mulsanne blue for almost a year, I love the bike, it's a true go anywhere mtb, reliable, great quality, enjoyable, capable etc, 29 x 2.6 tyres are a Godsend on a hardtail, enjoy the bike, it's a winner.

    Just picked up this bike one in small and another in medium for extra rider. I exchanged the fuel ex 8 I bought at Trek for the Roscoe’s. No regrets.

      I'm 177cm (5'9 1/2'). I initially got the Roscoe 8 in ML but felt cramped and uncomfortable. Almost regretted buying the bike. Then I exchanged it at the LBS for a L and everything fell into place. Absolutely love the bike. The reach on Roscoe's is a bit less than on some other bikes. Get a test ride if possible before you buy one.

      @@FourBloaksOnBikes Mulsanne Blue! Yeah it’s my first mountain bike, definitely liked it when I was riding the first one, just felt a bit sluggish turning and a bit uncomfortably stretched out, I think I’ll be pretty happy going down a size. Definitely feel like I can whip that one around much better with more control. Luckily only 2 weeks. Ha

    I'm looking for something that good for pavement & some dirt trails all my searches point to hybrid

    • @FourBloaksOnBikes
      @FourBloaksOnBikes 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey iron_sight_8727! Thanks for your comment. I would say that it depends on what speed you’d like to do and what time of year you plan to hit the dirt trails. Hybrids would tend to have tyres with less grip. Gravel bikes can be more versatile with different tyre choices, for instance: A hybrid bike would have tyres that are 700x33-38, A gravel bike could potentially have 700x33-48, so it could cater to more surfaces/rides. A hybrid bike would generally cost less so if you're just getting into it or have a strict budget then that could point to hybrid. But a gravel bike, whilst possibly more expensive, is great for all areas, and a very crucial point is the drop bars on the gravel bike would make it a more efficient bike for the roads vs. a hybrid bike. Jason from this channel is currently cycling across Germany on a gravel bike. It's loaded up to the max and still super efficient, and has handled everything that's come its way. I asked him your question and his take is "I personally dislike hybrids as they are excellent at nothing". If you are happy to share your budget, we could advise more 😃, hope this helps. Tony 4BoB

    Green lanes represent a fascinating blend of history, nature, and rural tradition, maintaining a connection to the landscape's ancient past while continuing to serve modern recreational and ecological purposes. Here's 5 facts about green lanes: 1. Green Lanes as Boundary Markers: Many green lanes have historically served as important boundary markers. They often delineated parish boundaries and manorial limits. The existence of these lanes as borders is sometimes recorded in ancient documents, providing valuable insights into historical land ownership and territorial disputes. 2. Ancient Monuments and Sites: Along many green lanes, one can find ancient monuments, such as standing stones, burial mounds, and other archaeological sites. These features suggest that green lanes were not just routes of travel but also had cultural and spiritual significance, connecting various prehistoric and historic landmarks. 3. 'Hollow Ways' Phenomenon: Some green lanes have evolved into what are known as 'hollow ways' or 'sunken lanes'. These are paths that have been worn down over centuries, sometimes several meters below the level of the surrounding land. This erosion is caused by the repeated passage of feet, hooves, and wheels, as well as water runoff. The steep, banked sides of hollow ways can create unique microclimates and ecosystems. 4. Literary and Folklore Connections: Green lanes often appear in British folklore and literature. They are sometimes depicted as mysterious or enchanted places, reflecting their deep connection to the landscape and rural life. In literature, they can symbolise a journey, both physical and metaphorical, and have been featured in the works of authors such as Thomas Hardy and William Wordsworth. Folklore often imbues these lanes with stories of ghosts, fairies, and other supernatural occurrences. 5. Legal Protections and Modern Use: In the modern era, green lanes enjoy various degrees of legal protection. Some are designated as public rights of way, bridleways, or byways open to all traffic (BOATs). These legal designations help preserve the lanes and maintain their accessibility for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders. There is ongoing debate and management to balance the interests of different user groups and to prevent damage from motorised vehicles, which can threaten the historical and ecological integrity of these paths.
