How to Dehydrate Fruit, Vegetables & Herbs | Dehydrated Figs | Ninja Air Fryer & Dehydrator
Hey Foodie Friends! If you're like me, you love finding ways to preserve seasonal flavours. Today, we're transforming fresh, juicy figs into chewy, naturally sweet snacks using the dehydrate function on our trusty Ninja Air Fryer. It's incredibly easy and the results are amazing!
INGREDIENTS
Fresh figs (any variety, but we're using Brown Turkey figs today)
Optional: A drizzle of honey or balsamic glaze (for extra flavor)
TOOLS
Ninja Air Fryer with dehydrate function
Sharp knife
Cutting board
METHOD
Prep the Figs: Wash your figs gently and pat them dry. Cut them into thick slices. If you want to add a touch of extra flavor, lightly drizzle the cut sides with honey or a balsamic reduction.
Arrange in Air Fryer: Place the fig slices on the air fryer trays, making sure they're not overcrowded and have space for air to circulate.
Set the Dehydrate Function: This is where your Ninja Air Fryer shines! Set the dehydrate function to 60°C (140°F).
Dehydrate Time: The drying time can vary depending on the size and juiciness of your figs. Check them every 2-3 hours. You'll know they're done when they're leathery to the touch, slightly shrunken, and no longer sticky. This can take anywhere from 8-12 hours, sometimes longer.
Cool & Store: Once dehydrated, remove the fig snacks from the air fryer and let them cool completely on a wire rack. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature. They should last for several weeks (if you don't eat them all first!)
TIPS & TRICKS
- Don't Overcrowd: Make sure there's enough space between the figs for air to circulate. This ensures even drying.
- Flip for Evenness: If you notice some figs drying faster than others, flip them halfway through the process.
- Experiment with Flavors: Try adding a pinch of cinnamon, cardamom, or a sprinkle of sea salt before dehydrating for a flavor twist.
Why Dehydrate?
Preserves Freshness: Extends the life of your figs well beyond their usual season.
Natural Sweetness: Concentrates the sugars, creating a delicious, chewy treat.
Healthy Snack: No added sugars, preservatives, or artificial ingredients.
Outro:
These dehydrated figs are fantastic on their own, perfect for snacking, great for water kefir or kombucha, topping yogurt or oatmeal, or adding to cheese boards. I hope you give this a try and discover the joy of preserving flavors with your Ninja Air Fryer!

If every forager takes as much as you do wild garlic will go extinct in a few short years. I see you’ve got some bulbs and roots there too so pulling out the whole plant so it won’t grow back next year. If you’ve got a couple with bulbs and roots intact plant them in the garden. In a few years you’ll have a small patch at home so no need to pick from forest👍🏻

I’ve never intentionally pulled out the full root, I try to cut it off low at the bottom and never take too much. I’ve actually covered a video to recommend this too. This was done about 4-5 yrs ago and forage much more sustainably now. Good idea to try to plant some tho, might have to try

I got this book as a gift recently and I'm working through the recipes. You have to already be good in the kitchen because the recipes will skip over a step or not tell you what to do with one of the ingredients listed or when to add it. All the recipes have turned out good until this one: --the recipe says to char on medium-high heat. That is impossible for theses ingredients, you'll end up with cariogenic charcoal. When I added my chilli flakes, the kitchen filled with chilli smoke I was breathing in and coughing for 15 mins. --turn the heat way down, it's dangerous otherwise.

Have you ever thought of sneaking other veggies in there? A company here in the USA makes a veggie ketchup with no added sweetener other than apples, and they also put butternut squash, carrots and spinach in there, it tastes pretty much the same too. Great idea to use brine, been a while since I've made home made sauerkraut and pickles

Yeah, I’m forever experimenting and there are a lot of innovative types done here in the UK. I do like a chilli combo but beetroot is good too. I’ve got a butternut squash version but can’t beat tomato! I do like the fermented cookbook I demonstrated in the video, which inspired me. Main thing for me is to cut back on the sugar. Thanks for your kind feedback. James ☺️🙏

I’ve actually done a review of the book, if that helps. It’s a great book by James Read called ‘of Cabbages and Kimchi’! th-cam.com/video/BWtHXGWZ5WE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rA_y2vnvl_-V74Hu

Which part of the video is the music bad?? I try to play relaxing music when presenting but don’t use the music with the voice over anymore. I’ve considered doing voice overs but still undecided

Wow this looks amazing! I have saved the video and will definitely try it. I have a speedi, which pretty much has the same functions as yours, so no problem there. I cant eat carbs, so it will be a great meal for me, adding chicken instead. I actually came across your channel, because I am looking to dehydrate cherry tomatoes that I grow annually, you have given me lots of ideas and I really excited to give them a go. I have some kale in the garden at the mo, I am gonna try that first. I was wondering if you have tried tomatoes or if one of your subscribers has and if so how long would i need to cook them for? Many thanks I have subscribed.

Hey, thanks for dropping by and for your kind words, really appreciated. You’ve just refuelled my passion gauge for doing these videos, so thank you. You can pretty much dehydrate anything and I’m going to do another video on this, as it’s quite popular. I’ve done tomatoes and also onions/ shallots, in which the latter I’ve done a video of. If you like this recipe, you’ll love the original that I covered by Ottolenghi, which is truly amazing. Also look up my Chicken Ruby recipe by Dishoom… absolute classic and well worth the effort. This was really interesting (and I loved the hail interruption in the middle!). I appreciated your review and that you included the smell, taste etc... it gave a good idea of the overall experience. I've recently stopped drinking coffee ironically because I have to cut back on foods that are usually contaminated with mold. However, when I was drinking it I often added freeze dried lion's mane and a few drops of a homemade reishi tincture. I tried the four sigmatic brand (I don't know if you have that on your side of the pond) as well but haven't tried a straight alternative before.

We have a lot of different types of wild mushrooms here. It's hard to pick a favorite but Chicken of the Woods might be my current favorite (to eat, not to clean!) Have you ever tried to make tinctures from mushrooms before?

    • @HappyHungryHibby
      @HappyHungryHibby 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

We get chicken of the woods here too and it’s fairly easy to spot and forage but never tried or made a tincture before. I need to start doing more foraging and have actually covered a lot of videos on this, just not with mushrooms. Going on a course soon tho, so watch this space 😜
